Marc, what a wonderful collection you are building and how awesome that you are resurrecting old Petersons not as museum pieces, but as pipes back in use. Those new stems are great. It will be quite a treat to see the 1907 whole again. What a treasure - a rare gem to be displayed and admired. Have a good weekend and enjoy the 'new' wardens! Peace
Thanks very much for the kind words. I will be smoking the 2 larger ones but the 1907 Patent has never yet been smoked, by anyone, ever. So that one I will certainly never smoke but the others I will from time to time. You really have to be in the right mindset for some of the XXL bowls, as they are loooong smokes. Thanks for watching, I always enjoy hearing from you. I hope you enjoy the weekend.
The original calabash look, good choice! When you look back on the older pipes its amazing what you can find. What other shapes do you like? Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, I always appreciate hearing from people. Marc
Man, your Peterson collection is getting more unique by the week!! Some really great pieces you have there and they all suit you so perfectly! Thanks for sharing. Take care my friend. Emil
Thanks Emil, I've been very fortunate to have found some very nice pieces to add to my collection. I'm very fond of the earlier pipes as pieces of historical relevance. I'm like a kid at Christmas whenever I'm able to get my hands on something I find interesting. But I imagine that I will be slowing down on my collecting as it can be difficult to keep up this pace. I've amassed far more than I could ever use or justify to myself. I'm not done yet but will be slowing down. Collectors can be very strange people lol. Thanks for watching Emil, and take care my friend. Marc
Wow. I'm not even a big Churchwarden fan, but those are all beautiful, they'd make a convert of me. :) I agree with Roger, an overview of your pipe rack would be great. That last 4" bowl would be a nice treat on a day off.
Thanks BB, I will certainly eventually do a video of my current collection, but it may take me awhile to get it shot. But if you check back from time to time it will eventually be there waiting for you. As for the 4" bowl I will never be smoking that one. It's a 1907 Patent that is in unsmoked condition, and if it's gone this long I can't bring myself to do it. This one will almost certainly be donated to the Peterson museum when my days with it are done. I think a historical pipe like this would do well to be in the museum for anyone to enjoy Thanks for watching, my friend. Take care. Marc
Important question. So, I appreciate the pipe community here. Do ANY of you smokers suffer from high blood pressure? I have high blood pressure and want to smoke pipe as well. Do any of you deal with this
I will absolutely do one of my collection however I'm not sure when yet. Keep your eyes peeled as I've been meaning to do one for awhile now. Thanks for watching Roger, and for the kind words. Marc
Churchwardens have always caught my eye and I would love to have one like those some day, but how would you go about cleaning the stem? Do they make pipe cleaners that long?
That's a really good question. You can get longer pipe cleaners for churchwarden pipes but possibly not long enough for these ones. You'd have to clean the stem from both ends to get it cleaned properly, half from the mouth piece and half from the tenon end. I wish you the best of luck finding the one that is meant for you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Marc
I have a rusticated xl 315. I love it. Would be cool to have one of those stems for it, maybe one day I'll get good enough and be able to make myself one with a lathe.
James Bond that would be ideal. If you can make your own stems the possibilities are limitless. Those long stems are really nice for a cool smoke. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, it gives it a very classic look. These are my first churchwarden type pipes and I'm looking forward to spending some time with them. Thanks for watching. Marc
TeensierPython - the stem is actually somewhat tapered. This allows you to remove the stem while smoking to flick out any moisture or just clean any blockage that may accumulate, and to reinsert the stem without having to worry about damaging the tenon. It's a nice simple idea. After many many years of smoking the stem may become flush and that's what the old smokers would call "closing the gap". As you probably know, with most pipes you should never remove the stem while the pipe is warm as you may damage the tenon or mortise. With the Deluxe system pipes and their tapered stem this is not an issue you need to worry about. And I for one love the look of the deluxe system stems with their gap. If you have any further questions feel free to ask away.
Locally they can be difficult to find. Keep your eyes open though, because you may just luck out. If you have any antique shops in your area it may be worth popping into. Best of luck and thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, it's always appreciated.
Leo 89 hi Leo. What standard system meerschaum pipe are you wondering about? Off the top of my head I can't think of any Peterson meerschaum pipes that are system pipes. Ask me a few follow up questions and I will do my best to help you out. In terms of Peterson meerschaums, I like the Sherlock Holmes ones, I have 6 of the 7 from the collection and smoke 4 of the 6 all of which are fantastic smokers but pricey. The Baker Street is my favourite one but they are all very nice functional smoking pipes. Please give me some more info as to what you would like to know and I will help you as best I can.
thanks for your replay. i send to you a picture .. maybe i will able to explain myself better. www.google.it/search?q=peterson+meerschaum+pipe&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiT57mAgrbUAhXKJsAKHb-uA1gQ_AUIBigB&biw=1366&bih=638#imgrc=YnynYWCtgaklGM: if you see closely it looks like a standard system. I just wanted to know about this kind of pipe
Leo 89 I don't think they have the moisture trapping reservoir therefore it's not a true system pipe and likely only has a system style stem. I just sent a message to some people in a few a Peterson groups asking them for some info and I will get back to you as soon as I have an answer. Do you know if you would like Turkish meerschaum or African meerschaum?
