thank you so much for mentioning right away that petite refers to height! I get so frustrated with people saying brands only carry "petite" sizes when they mean sizes 0-8 or whatever. Anyone could be a petite size- I'm certain there are size 16+ Petites and it's actually not at all easy to find the right petite sizes so I hate when people refer to standard/avg sizes as not inclusive and petite.
@monakinnel9271

I utilize all of these hacks. As a 68 yr. old very short 4’10”, leaning towards an apple shape petite girl, clothes present a real challenge to reflect style, elegance, and beauty. A tailor is definitely a must for me, as very rarely do I find that piece that fits me perfectly and flattering in every detail. Although I do dress somewhat conservative (jeans, crop top or button shirt, blazer, and tiny ballet flats), I often step out of the box with a more expressive and creative look. I love wide belts, ripped jean jackets, Doc Martin boots, funky vintage finds, and men’s sport jackets. My daily fashion is always planned out according to weather and activities, and what I want to project. I dress often to create or express a mood I want to reflect outwardly. If I wake up feeling a bit low or riddled with pain or discomfort, I know I need to select an outfit that is fun, artistic, expressive, and takes me into a completely different mindset…it’s amazing how clothing can change the way you feel and carry yourself through the day! For me, it’s therapy!

I wish I learned earlier in life that being 5’3” and wearing shoes with heels that I’m not comfortable in or hurt or that I can’t dance in at a wedding just makes me a short person who can’t walk well. 😂 Once I started wearing flats or at least just a reasonable heel and shoes I could walk confidently in did I start enjoying fancy social occasions. No heels can make me a tall person, so I just stopped buying them and went with who I am.
@altitudeiseverything3163
@altitudeiseverything3163 3 года назад
I’m 4’11” and came to the same conclusion after many years of wearing heels ruined my feet. I once could easily walk in them, even run, but now feel pain from the moment I put them on. All styles, all brands, ...even heels from good quality “comfort” brands. No one looks their best when pain shows on their face, so what’s the point? I love curating my style -it’s fun!- but there’s a limit. People can accept me as the tiny person I am, or not. I no longer care what others think; I just please myself.
@dalbriggss
@dalbriggss 3 года назад
Not all heels are uncomfortable & hard to walk in. The key is that you need to try on many shoes and walk around the store with them on ... until you find a comfortable shoe. Going with a thicker heel or a wedge shoe or sandal with a heel height of 2-1/2 inches or lower tend to be more comfortable.

Well this was just fantastic. At 4'10.5", I have just begun, within the past year due to ~reasons~, found the time and desire to really dig deep and start to build my wardrobe in a way that really communicates who I am and how I wish to be perceived and it is SO MUCH FUN!! The concepts you have so eloquently communicated here are ones that I have begun to implement and they work SO well. I have favorited this video as a reminder. For those who are concerned about this petite range not accommodating shorter physiques, I think applying these concepts ABSOLUTELY apply and can assist you as they pertain to catering to your own personal proportions! Fantastic piece, Audrey. Many thanks!! 💖

I am 5'2" and am short-waisted and have short legs. But I have found that certain jeans fit better if I buy regular misses and hem them rather than buying them in petite. Now that the dressing rooms have re-opened, I say try on both the misses and petites & then decide which is more flattering.

I’m 5’5”, but I find tips for petite dressing useful at times. Usually pant lengths are fine for me, but I’m short-waisted. Using tips for petites on my upper body helps me keep my clothes in proper proportion. I have definitely bought sized-up petite jackets before to accommodate my wide shoulders while avoiding the sleeves being too long. My MIL taught me this and it really opened my eyes to how rigid my ideas about sizing had been. (And she’s 5’8”!)

Exactly! It's a fashion industry bias. The average woman is 5'4" in the US, but the average fit model (used by brands to scale clothing) is 5'7". Petites represent HALF of female consumers, and yet there's a tiny fraction of clothing available in our size. It's so frustrating.

The fashion industry drives me nuts! "Petite" should be a "normal" size that is offered everywhere - I will say that *some* but not all brands are offering actual lengths that are good for someone who is 5"0' - I recently purchased high rise jeans from Abercrombie & Fitch and they fit like real jeans are supposed to (they have a wide array of inseams 👏❤❤) - they are not just cropped jeans for someone over 5"4".

Hi, Audrey. First of all, you are gorgeous. I love all your videos and the style tips you share for petite women. I’m petite myself and always struggle to find the right size of blazer for myself. It would be wonderful if you could make a video on how to choose the right blazer to look classy. Being petite, my shoulders are narrow and my bust is heavy so it’s difficult to find the right blazer and I love wearing blazers. Thank you Audrey! 💝

I am 5'2" , curvy, but not short waisted. So, I don't wear "petite sized" dresses. My style is fitted clothing (not tight) and not over-sized bulky clothing that makes me look like I am "swimming" in my clothing. I still enjoy wearing heels for a dressier look as they make my legs look longer and more attractive. For me, finding decent fitting dresses is really difficult; as said I am not short waisted. A lot of dresses are so very long and maxi/midi dresses are not my style anyway. I have also found stores are eliminating their petite section too. Excellent tips in this video.

Thank you for your video. As a 5’2” petite women I find it difficult to find RM clothes that fit. I do sew, so making my own clothes as been wonderful when it comes to fit. I love your style!

Interested in anything about petite dressing. I'm 5'2 and slim but with reasonably solid (as my friend says 'athletic') legs! My best area is upper body and I particularly like my shoulder area. Loved your outfit in the video today. 😀

Great tips, Audrey. I'm 5'1" and, like you, wear petite sizes in my tops and jackets, but misses sizes in my pants since I'm short-waisted. Love your blouse! I'm a romantic style so love anything with lace.

Thanks for this. Really helpful. Although I am 5' 5" - I always struggle with the length of sleeves - and also the shoulder seam placement. I am now going to try petite blouses and jackets - as I realised I am probably petite on top.
