I have never felt the truth of this song so strongly as I do today. We really are strangers to this world. Unfortunately, too many of us feel at home. I had forgotten how big a part of my teen life Petra was and how much encouragement and strength I received from God's Word in their music. That is what I loved about them. They were so contemporary in their presentation yet so Biblical in their music. That is not easy to do. I haven't heard some of these songs for years and yet when I hear them , the words come right back to me. Love these guys
I graduated in '84. This was my favorite Christian band and this was my favorite album and this was my favorite song!! Tonight I listened to it for the first time in almost 40 years and I looked out my bedroom window and I could physically feel something I think it was my spirit feeling the Holy Spirit and the presence of our Father and I looked at the beautiful stars that He placed in the heavens. I looked up and picture Jesus looking down at me. I cried and cried. I thought of my beautiful grandmother and how young beautiful she must be. I thought of my father and thought how he is free and happy now. I now know how much I miss our Father and how much in love I am with Jesus! And how much I want to go home bc this world is like 2 negatives sides of a magnet. This song brought life back into me. 40 years later they are singing about all of us brothers and sister's longing to be with our Father and our bride groom. Longing for our permanent home with all loved ones. But yes, we must tarry on bc there is so much more work to be done. I love you and I can't wait to meet you in the air brother! 🙏🏻🙏🏻☝🏻
NOT OF THIS WORLD Album was one of the most powerful CHRISTIAN SONGS I'VE HEARD IN.MY LIFE. IT HAD A GREAT IMPACT IN MY WALK WITH THE LORD. UNTIL SOME MONTHS AGO I HAVEN'T HEARD IT SINCE THE 80S. TIME NOT OF THIS WORLD START PLAYING TOUCHED MY SOUL AND BROUGHT ME BACK TO MY EARLY YEARS IN CHRIST. I JUST THANK GOD FOR YOU BROTHERS MUSIC MINISTRY. BOB HARTMAN THANKS FOR YOUR ANOINTED GIFT TO WRITE THESE GREAT INSPIRATIONAL SONGS. GREG VOLZ THANKS FOR YOUR VERY UNIQUE VOICE GOD CHOOSE YOU TO SING FOR HIS GLORY. YOUR VOICE IS A LEGACY. TO EACH BAND MEMBER THANK YOU AND MUCH LOVE FROM THE DEPTH OF MY SOUL.
saw them play in Ikthus Kentucky with thousands of other young "Christians". they played until the sun tose in the morning. I was struggling for an identity and loved this song. Funny, God was telling me that entire time, hey you, I'm right here, you're mine.
I was 14 when this first came out. Even at that age I realized how deeply spiritual this Albumn and song was. Very encouraging and biblically based. Even amidst newer forms of music that I now appreciate. I always go back to this. Thank You. Peace
Wow nothing influenced me more , or gave me the strength to seek after the promises of god. They were extremely anointed at that time . I love every song. More power to all of u warriors
Both the intro and outro are a piece of music commonly called "Dedication Anthem," which dates back to 1674. Because it appears in the Mennonite Hymnal as Hymn #606, it is sometimes referred to as "Old 606" and the "Mennonite National Anthem." It was written by Thomas Ken, and the words are: Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. It is a Doxology, in that it sometimes is sung at the end of other hymns, such as "Awake, My Soul, and With the Sun" and "Glory to Thee, My God, This Night."
Thanks for the history. Many significant practices of the New Testament Church are preserved in the conservative Mennonite communities. "My kingdom is not of this world"; "Go ye into all the world"; "Love not the world".
Hmmm.. Your description of a "doxology" is correct. HOWEVER, this particular "doxology" is a normal musical intro. As an 80's musician and song writer, the 80's were filled with grand intros because we had inherited the synth at that time, and band keyboardists were absolutely LOVING the power we could infused into songs like this. And if you're wondering where the influence for this particular intro came from - check out Vangelis and the Chariots of Fire album he released around the same time. Vangelis isn't a Christian artist, but every synth player (like me) was amazed by what he did and began writing big intros and rock operas into songs using the power of the synth, along with digital delay and chorus effects....
@@dancnkc Actually, no. I never followed Vangelis. If there was any unconscious influence, it may have been Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But I had a Memorymoog, multi-track recorder, and a superbly creative recording engineer: JD Brown.
I remember my mother playing this a lot in the car back then. When she passed in 2012, we were going through her stuff and I found that same tape (which I hadn't seen in years) and I keep it as a memory.
I had forgotten about this song for years until someone's comment brought it back into my memory. It should be re-released as it is so timely for this age! I am a child of the 60's but not as most think about it,
God's never changing truth...a comfort in this tumultuous hour. He does NOT change and we are NOT of this world as a believe in Christ. We look forward to the blessed HOPE...we will be with Him when this world burns out...Comfort and joy for those who truly receive this truth and walk in it. Thank you Jesus you paid the price
Very uplifting and inspiring song with the message of Jesus.I have the cassette of this song somewhere and used to play it all the time. Thanks for posting it.
Mine too! If these haven't been re-issued, they should. I know so many of us would buy them! Classic Petra (and this isn't even their oldest) is just soooo good!!
qthush303 Even tho I'm no longer a believer, Petra's music is still great. The music is the thing. The sound, the lyrics. I remember preachers in my teens shouting against rock and roll and saying it was satanic. Only the most diehard fundies wouldn't listen to the music back then. And here I am now, an atheist and still love christian rock and roll. Petra and the Rez band. Both classic bands. Maybe it has something to do with nostalgia. But for Petra, I rank them right up there with secular bands Kansas and Boston. PS: Do you realize qthush303 that Petra was once considered Satanic by old school fundies of the 1980's? In 1984 Texas I was working as a roofer for one such fundie. He hated Petra but put up with me playing it on my boombox while working. One song stood out to him, Pied Piper and he commented on how the song told the truth. It was the first time he considered maybe Petra wasn't Satanic, maybe it was ok after all.
dkeith45 Your problem 1. is preachers and there are more now then ever. 2. Try less on creeps such as Benny Hinn, Mike Murdock of the world MORE on CHRIST FRANKLY YOU NEED TO COME HOME AGAIN dk
qthush303 Preachers didn't turn me away, Televangelists or otherwise. The bible turned me away. (I've read it three times cover to cover) And once you see the truth of the bible, and all its flaws, there's no returning. Just as there's no returning to believing in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I was like you once, believing that God made the wisdom of this world foolish. Believing that any doubts about the bible or God were from Satan. That you cannot think for yourself because you cannot trust your reason or logic because again, Satan. But once you stop believing in Satan, and start believing you CAN use reason and logic to seek the truth, the bible becomes a book you can criticize and test and it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I have no wish to hurt your faith. If you love being a Christian and love the bible, enjoy your faith.
With each passing day it seems so clear, this world will never want us here.... But our mission here will never fail!! and the gates of hell will not prevail..... We are not of this world.....
Thanks for this upload! When this song came out I could hear it in my head all the time and I would weave my motorcycle thinking about it. ( = That was a long time ago.
Probably almost no one listens to this "Visions" thing, but I will offer a few insights as to the meaning, if there is any. The opening instrumental (multi-tracked Moog synthesizer) is an abstract tone painting loosely suggesting people singing praise and the heavens opening in response. 0:00 to about 0:39 is vaguely reminiscent of the old hymn, "Showers of Blessing... mercy drops 'round us are falling, but for the showers we pray". ☔ BTW, that hymn tune is also used in the opening of Petra's "Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows", here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ahcvBSbdces.html 0:39 to 0:45 is supposed to symbolize a heavenly outpouring of grace or something, maybe it's just birds.🦆🐦🦜🦅 0:48 is the opening melody from Doxology: "Praise God..." played in a low (earthly) register. 0:54 is a faint answer maybe from angels, played in a high (heavenly) register. 0:58 is the earthly "Praise God" again, but higher, being more encouraged. 1:02 the angels answer again 1:10 to 1:30 is the earthly response, "Praise God, from whom all blessings flow". 1:30 a heavenly "choir" provides more color Or, maybe it's all a cheap imitation of the Blade Runner background music and effects. Here endeth the boring sermon.
@@Moldy_AppleI dig this also 👍. Just like Boston had "foreplay" before "long time" well Petra has Visions! And I never knew it before stumbling across this video🤔. Never heard this track on the radio back in the day. Guess it has to do with how the label decides to release them Fun fact: I always heard that they were named after the ancient city in the middle east country of Jordan. But the band originally started in Fort Wayne Indiana. I wonder if there's a band in Jordan called Fort Wayne lol
I have not stayed in touch, mostly because they were always on tour. I never hear from them either, but always count Bob, in particular, as a dear friend.
Even if you do not to listen to Christian music, you have to admit they have a very wide range of sounds. I am amazed that they came up with that many songs and each being so unique that very seldom did they ever seem repetitive. For some reason, the introduction reminds me of a mix between the game Myst + The intro to Van Halen's Jump
This is the only album I've ever heard that opens with a slow song. Fantastic song, but curious that they opened the album with it instead of a rocker like Bema Seat
This song is even more significant right now with the rapture coming and our being transported to be with Jesus very soon. ( = This world doesn't understand us and is hostile toward God because we are aliens and this world is not our home.
Read CS LEWIS' last book of Narnia "The LAST BATTLE". The Last chapters shows all the Kids (Kings & Queens, except Susan) in Aslans Country- Heaven. The part I like is they can look down on this world & their Eyes can Focus closely to a specific area to see people up close since their Eyes will adjust to see them Light years away. I think Heavan will be like this part of the book. Also, everyone is strong with perfect younger Bodies.
Wow - my brother has been talking about this song lately and i so hoped that it would be here! Does anyone know how i can put a link on his FaceBook page to this vid? Help! Thanks!
