At 2:13, apple guy asks if the Captain mentioned the Contact Light, despite the fact that neither of them said the name of the ship at any point in the conversation. While this might just be a writing mistake, I have a more interesting theory: Glitchiness is used throughout the video to represent Mercenary's PTSD, such as when he sees the disco ball as a golem. At 1:30, there's glitchiness after Captain says "the planet" and "intelligent being". Therefore, it seems likely that the glitches represent Mercenary's mental state repressing certain triggering words out when he hears them, and Captain actually said something along the lines of "Petrichor V" and "Contact Light".
Or it reveals that apple man knows more than should by being able to tell what captain is talking about despite never mentioning it directly, but I like your theory better
Okay, crackpot theory: I don’t think mercenary actually killed apple guy. Earlier he said “im growing out of this armor” so my theory is that he wanted to move on from that life, so he let apple guy have his armor and take the job so he could disappear
Really cool idea but then why would he be so skilled with the sword? I think he just realized he doesn't want to be an assasin anymore and would rather get money this way
It would also kind of make sense why Kevin (Apple guy) would want to go, or at least feel like he doesn’t have any other choice. He has the opportunity to go to the planet where his brother died, which he has gotten no answers nor justice for and almost killed for trying. Speaking of which, the dude has himself on a hit list, he kind of has to get out of there. And the og Mercenary was friends with Kevin’s brother. Not saying the theory is true, but it is a fun idea and could have some mileage from what we’ve seen here
I cannot wait, the patience is withering away at my bones, crycat. I sit here, suffering within a cell of my own design, with your creations as my warden; Standing close enough to the bars that I'd believe I could reach the keys on their belt, that I could free myself, but just far enough away that my fingers will never grasp the cold brass of freedom. So here I shall rot. These 24 hours shall feel like an eternal sentencing, but the wait shall be worth it. No matter how far into my spiral I fall, the ladder will reach me, and I will eventually be free. that is to say, im pretty damn hyped here lmao
It is so fun to even rewatch these episodes and look for references/Easter eggs. Prime example, shortly after Merc cuts the apple off of Kevin’s head, we see a few characters gathered around a table, and while I’m sure there are multiple references in that scene that I may have missed, the one I did get was the translator bot (a modded character) was visible amongst them. Pretty sure that you can find gunslinger in the bandit episode for another Easter egg.
watched this earlier today and only now realized it was made this recently - genuinely one of the best animations i've seen in a while that makes use of an existing universe but also adding personal touches
What a banger as always, spectacular job. I really liked midway through there’s a prolonged silence that lets us guess what each character is thinking, great stuff. On another note, the voice actors for Mercenary (Nick Gikas) and Captain (Robert Ashker Kraft) are spectacular, they fit each character very well. Keep up the good work.
This beginning feel like almost a meet the team (tf2) series however the lore is deeper and is clearly introducing a lot of very interesting plot points. Kudos, keep up the Absolute Cinema 🙌
another bangin episode of petrichor V! The Pirate Captain is just so good, the idea of Merc being a survivor of the original contact light is compelling, the voice acting is just spectacular not to mention the phenomenal art. Keep up the fantastic work!
So the mercenary lived through the events of ror1 and made it out after killing the miner, despite being once friends with him? And now after returning back and confronting the apple guy, he feels like he can't be happy just "relaxing and partying" and is hence going back to fighting? It might be cause it's late for me, but I don't think I'm fully getting everything that's going on with all of these newer stories you've crafted for characters. Very cool stuff though, always love to see the most creative thing ever for a game I love so much
@@crycatena oh yeah right i forgot this a series so these things dont have to be self contained or explain everything-- (and even if it is self contained youre still allowed to have loose ends so both ways im a bit silly for that :p) either way very excited to see what's up next :D
Maybe they were lost in frenzy while trying to survive, or he killed Miner for the items. And felt the need to cover tracks both for himself and UAC since they contracted a hit.
@@crycatena I based one of my characters off of how you depicted the Bandit. I may or may not have strapped dynamite to their bullets, but that's nothing to worry about
During that freezeframe of Merc with Miner... the aspect of perfection, the "Shared Design"... Mithrix is going to have hell to pay by the end of this series, and I doubt he will be able to pay that price in full.
The quality of these NEVER fail to amaze me. The VA’s, the color, the fluid animation, the vfx and sfx, the writing, the lore, the music, AAAA I’M GUSHING
On the one hand, I love your story and the way you’ve chosen to write these characters. On the other, a part of me really wanted to see railgunner + weeb mercenary comic relief squad. Keep up the good work!
Holy fuck. You know what i just noticed? In the scene where Merc has his sword to Apple Guys head, and it flips to Merc having his sword at Miner’s head, you can see the Moon in the background. What I think is implied, is that Miner was killed by Merc (and then apple guy is killed) but Apple Guy ultimately has no idea, just like how Providence can be killed by Merc, and then Mithrix can be killed by Merc (a different one tho). The thing that connects it is how Apple Guy and Mithrix both have no idea that their brothers were slain by the person who’s about to kill them. I could be stretching things, and the Moon may just be there as an artistic choice, but I thought it was neat to point out
The musical choice gives me Katana Zero vibes, which is very fitting considering Mercenary. Also, deciding that (at least in your canon) that this Mercenary is the same Mercenary as ROR1 is a really cool choice!
