OMG Thank You a thousand times over. I have been asking this question to everyone. You are the only one to show me and answer the question. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you!!! I posted this exact question on your other video yesterday. I couldn’t believe you were nice enough to respond personally and that you already had a video with my answer. I appreciate all you’re doing to help us newbies become successful gardeners :-)

Very helpful. Thank you! I learned that the further down the stem it is, that is is more likely a seed pod!

Ok cool this cleared things up for me. And by the way guys, when the seed pod gets futher along, it looks like a small green acorn. Case you're wondering.

Thank you. I think I dead-headed some new growth. I'm still not sure how to tell the difference. The plant gave me some new flowers, also, so I guess I did something right.

BUT the question is...what does a tiny, beginning closed flower bud look like compared to a seed pod. Once they become "fluffy," as you say, of course, it's obvious. Either may appear at the top of the stem...one on the way in, one on the way out. So, I still need more precision and pics.

@PlantzNThings

Those are likely the seeds... the stickiness is a natural thing with petunias... not a fan...lol not sure why I'd does it

I don't think I will buy petunias again. They are very time consuming if you want them to stay pretty. I have 5 plants that I got around Mother's Day and they're beautiful, but the downfall is picking at them everyday. Do I need to pick them off everyday???
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 10 лет назад
not everyday... I do usually try and lightly trim 1/3 of the plant each week. this keeps it fresh and full as well.

Uma Rajagopal The seedlings? The only seedlings that survived were the "Blue lotus" they are growing like little weeds... they have even started producing the pads that are above the water... Fingers crossed for flowers... I'm sure they will be white :)

Thank you... there are new varieties of petunias that are "self Cleaning" those don't require deadheading... but they do respond well with the occasional trim to keep the center full... I tend to buy the self cleaning types these days.. so much easier...

We got a lot of rain, and now the leaves in the middle of the petunia are yellow, which I know means they got too much rain. Now it is getting dry, but the leaves in the middle are still yellow. Should I fertilize it with fertilizer and water in a sprinkler can? Should I sprinkle it directly on the leaves? Now the dirt is getting hard on top but soft beneath the crust. Thank you. I have had petunias before, but this is the first time I have tried to keep one going.
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 5 лет назад
the leaves that went yellow might not return to green... you can try some fertilizer to help with the new growth

Helpful! Thank you. I’m still not entirely clear on how to tell a shrivelled spent flower from a bud. Some of them look similar. I have purple petunias and I’ve noticed the tips of some of the “buds” are white and others are purple. I do understand what a seed pod is.

Bill thanks for that - I was one of the many followers who asked that question - much appreciated. I have to say, that without sounding conceited that I had figured that out and as I have said to you before, with the tips about cutting back and removing pods that my petunia is now outstanding. It is the best hanging basket I have ever had - thanks to your tips!!! Patrina - please don't give up - mine were like that like and now I have been left with an amazing plant. Love from Ireland.

So what do you do with the seed pod?
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 2 года назад
Pinch it out and toss it... you don't want it to let the seeds mature. If the plant is able to produce enough seed it completes the plants life cycle and it dies. The goal is to stop or slow the death of the plant

I pinch the crazy petunias back often, however I selectively choose where so as some have flowers still in the ends ( they'll get pinched eventually) as for the pods I pick em' off a little every other day or so.. Don't ya love it when a branch breaks off like that, self sacrifice I say...

Claudia Quiñonez I might make a few rose videos in the summer. I have a few mini roses. I think you were also asking about Azaleas. I don't have any videos about these as I don't have any. I like to make videos on personal experience and not just reading from a text book. in time when I plant one and successfully grow them i'll make videos on how I care for them for sure :)

Hi, how to grow petunias through cuttings? Thank you
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 4 года назад
Take tip cuttings maybe 3 inches long... remove the leaves from the bottom inch of the stem... add a little rooting hormone... pop them into some potting soil... keep them moist and humid

Claudia Quiñonez oh no! it is possible for that to happen if your plant is too leggy and woody.
@claudiaquinonez7982
@claudiaquinonez7982 9 лет назад
PlantzNThings I still got another one, how I prevent it to get too leggy or woody. What should I do?
@claudiaquinonez7982
@claudiaquinonez7982 9 лет назад
PlantzNThings Sorry, english is not my native language. So sometimes something that seems obvious isn't for me. Now I understand what you meant. thank you
@PlantzNThings
@PlantzNThings 9 лет назад
I would trim a little off to start. perhaps only 2 or 3 inches... wait and see where the plant starts its new growth. after several small pruning you should have brought more life to the base of the plant and you can then start trimming a little harder.
