Thanks guys for honouring the 205. Dad was a visiting Doctor. He drove a red GTI, then a black XS and finally a red one. He drove them everyday onto these country roads and was taking me to school before his visits. Meanwhile, my grandmother drove a Junior one, with the denim sit covers 😂. 205s are very special to me…..and to a lot of French kids born in the early 80s 🙏🏻.
Had a Peugeot 205 1.9GTI not long after they came out. Modified it 2 years later, lowered and 170bhp - tested at 5.72 0-60 150mph. Very quick in the day and would slaughter the 208gti, quicker than a lotus exige around a track. Importantly more fun. Mine had electric windows
I used to own one like you tested but the limited edition version with leather and power steering I loved it! I reckon if you would have used the 1.9 it might have beat the 208 in the drag race! Just one thing , it had 105bhp but was upgraded to 115bhp in 1987, the 1.9 had 130.. Great test though guys!
Yeah, and the 1.6 they had was a phase 2 with the higher horsepower. And no, in a drag race the 1.9 would not beat the 208. That said, give me the 205 GTi any day of the week...in fact, I have one every day of the week and I love it to bits.
+Lee Brady Most 1.9 GTI only had a near genuine 120-125bhp when tested though. Same goes for most cars, I never believed the marketing guff. Mine had 170bhp, it was awesome - looked standard but was Lotus Exige quick, embarrassed many Audi TT 225bhp drivers on a track.
O wow Wow Air and Zero 7. Your music choice is on point, as is this production quality (though IMO it could do without the black and white filter in every other clip). Plus some cheesy but entertaining hosts (as every good car reviewer is). I like what you guys have going here.
I recall taking delivery of my 205 GTi 1.6 (115 HP) in the late 1980s with Kenny Loggin's Danger Zone blasting out of the stereo system. No other car I've since owned has ever come close for pure driving enjoyment.
You guys are good,,,, Very Good infact! I can really see you guys replacing the Top Grear Trios at BBC. , , But you have to adjust the seat hight and back rest angle properly if you want to see the instruments in a 208.
"We've to report them to police." So is that what that guy does then?? Just sits and home and wait till some person in a "motor vehicle" comes along? Pretty pathetic plus it's a fucking airfield not a driveway no ones gunna get killed
Any plans to compare the 309 gti against the 308 gti? I'm biased of course cos I own a 309 gti :-) A great car thats always been the underdog unfortunately
I have a 205 gti with the gti6 conversion and it has 220bhp at the front wheels. It will out accelerate my old focus st chipped to 260hp, it's an animal and very underestimated by others on the road ;)
I loved my 205 GTi, great fun.....now I have the 208 GTi. They can't be compared, totally different eras and technologies. Both are good in their own rights, and fun to drive.
This seems irrelevant you cannot compare a 1.6 naturally aspirated car that is a lot slower to 60 than its bigger counterpart, along side a 1.6 turbo that puts out nearly twice the amount of power. Yes the 1.9 is a bigger engine but it was also the most desirable and was what really set the standard for the car. Also it took them 20 years to gain 1 second in the 0-60 time. It is also nearly 300kg heavier with a higher centre of gravity than the 205 so will never compete with it when cornering. I have nothing against the 208 just don't really think it's a true sports version it's literally the same basic car with new badge and some accessories a little bit lighter and a bigger engine
There's a plug along a cable under the hood for starter/ecu. Fault in oem kit. Tighten up the plug with zip ties, and starts on the button everytime. Ex owner ...
He was wrong, but it's also worth noting that in 1989 the 1.6 was upped to 115 in preparation of the cats arriving. It was the equal of the 130 1.9 with cats. I had one and now, 15 years later, want it back!
Can’t believe it, did you say the Renault 5gt turbo was better than the 205 gti 1.9 . Defo not, the 5gt was utter garbage and had massive turbo lag, issue and needed an engine rebuild by 60k. 208gti is s..t compared to the 205gti
Next time do more research before making rewievs about such cars as a 205 GTI. It had air con, power steering, electrical windows, heated seats, ABS, and so on :) If you were willing to pay extra money for those things. Keep up Your good work ;)
