Very informative video. Incidently, i took my Peugeot 207 for servicing today. My mechanic told me, faulty thermostat sensor apparently is a very common problem.

Done loads of these as they are fitted in various forms to other makes of car that use the Peugeot engine. Anyways top tip for the clip at the back pipe. Grind about 2 mm off the ends of the clip as they foul on the back of the engine as pushed in if not really lined up and makes it easier to push home and 2nd tie a piece of cotton to the middle of clip and run that out to your other hand. If when pushing it on it slips off and falls you struggle to find it or retrieve it. With the cotton you just pull it back up and try try again.

I did one of these the other day . Originally fitted a AC compressor as there was power to it and it wouldn't operate. Then fitted the thermostat housing which there was a fault for. That clip was a pain to get back in. However it turns it it was a faulty compressor in the end

Them housings are common, it’s been revised numerous times, so I only fit genuine now just some people don’t like the cost of genuine lol. On the Turbo version retail is around £120 give or take. Another thing to watch out for is those temperature sensors, they can fail and then coolant starts wicking up the wiring loom to the fuse box and engine ECU. Loads of Peugeot’s have had water damaged looms, fuseboxes from coolant leaking from the coolant sensor, or washer pump. It’s probably why the plug got cut off, coolant corroded the connector, so they cut the plug off and used sealant which also stopped coolant going up the wiring loom. But I also hate those clips on the back, pain the backside. Flimsy pipe on back has also been revised at some point, that and the plastic water pumps. Changed from plastic to metal because of cracking.

Did mine yesterday, coolant leaking down the back of gearbox, heard the O'ring on the connection for the pipe around the back is prone to fail. Fitted new housing, starting putting heater matrix hoses on. Only to realise one of the connections for the hose is different. Used new O'ring and gasket then fitted old one back on. Not leaking as bad, but on the look out for the correct version for my car,. 🤦🏼‍♂️.

Hi, 207 1.6 petrol. All hell breaks loose. Temp sky high when engine cold and STOP on dash. Change out both a/c relay and replace thermostat with new sensor. No change, multiple other codes too. Swapped back old temp sensor. No change same problem. Car runs normally, fan stays on for long time after switch off as thinks it overheating. I don't think a/c is kicking in either despite new relay. Have deleted codes with scanner and they come straight back. Question: are there two temp sensors? There is a sensor into the head with a single pin right next to the one that goes into the thermo housing. Should I also change that out? What else could be causing the problems? Tearing hair out and looking forward to your expert opinion. Cheers Jeremy in Brisbane Australia

Hi Allan. I usually don't bother with commenting on RU-vid but I find your videos quite interesting. This is probably the first comment I've ever done. Anyway I am only just out of college and about a year into Arnold's and nowhere near the experience you have in the trade. Is it possible that the air con is being cut off due to the fact the condenser carries heat, therefore in the event the engine is overheating the condenser is unnecessary excess heat to dissapate? If you get a chance let me know what you think. Ps I would love the chance to work in a garage like yours I would have been tempted to apply for the position in your recent videos however I don't think I would have the experience your looking for. Also I live in glasgow lol. Qasim

You, Sir have a new subscriber.. I am currently working on a 207CC with short to earth of three sensors.. The fan comes on after about 5 - 10 seconds (Rad Fan goes on full speed) with codes relating to disengageable water pump control thermostat and oil pressure control, live data suggests A/C is switched on Thermostat at 99% ... When I disconnect the water pump control motor the car no longer logs any codes and returns to normal. I put an ohmeter across the motor and it's two terminals are connected together. Is this normal or do they connect via the windings.. Any help would be appreciated as I have spent hours on it, even the ECU has been sent off a checked..

Hi Alan, I own a 2008 Mondeo Mk4 1.8 TDCI, 125 HP. I've owned the car for 3 years now, I didn't have any serious problems with it, but it has 2 ,,small,, issues that bother me,first one is the air condition, it has enough gas but the cold air it,s not cold enough, when it,s really hot outside, I live in Denmark so the summers are not that hot, that's why I still have this car. And the second one is, under heavy acceleration (warm engine) it gives some black smoke, no power issues! What do you think? Thanks!
@alan4x
@alan4x 5 лет назад
the air con would need to be checked out first...you can put a thermometer in the air vent,,,4-6 degrees centegrade would be as good as it will get. these cars do not have a dpf so black smoke is normal but could also be the egr valve but if its only a small amount i would not worry...if you were losing power then it would be worth looking into it as a split turbo hose could cause black smoke but also power loss

@@alan4x thanks Alan. Someone said about fitting shims to space the clutch out. I may give this a try. Thanks once again.
@Clicksystems
@Clicksystems 5 лет назад
On mk3 mondeo it’s usually the compressor clutch. It wears and the gap gets too big on the clutch. Then as compressor gets hot the shaft expands internally and gap gets too big for the electro magnet to pull the clutch in so it disengages. Then when it cools down the shaft contracts and it starts working again. Fix is to remove the clutch plate on the compressor and either remove one of the shims or install a replacement shim from a kit ford sell to get correct gap.

Hi Alan, In my 1.6TDCI Mk5 Mondeo (PSA engine) I have a similar problem. Driving car from cold, after 7miles the temp needle reaches 1/2way and then climbs to 3/4 when the High Coolant Temperature alarm activates. Up to the 1/2way temp point the hot air was coming into the cabin. Beyond 1/2way without going at the temp controls the air goes cold. I ordered the temperature sensor but was sent the wrong sized 1. Ford dealership opened this morning and they are recommending to replace the whole engine :( .The side wall of the coolant reservoir is blackened. They think theres probably a crack in the engine allowing exhaust back into the coolant system. Not sure if they are just pulling a fast 1 to recoop cash lost with Covid19! Thought it would be a simple enough case of replacing the thermostat housing but now im looking at €4200 :( . Any truth in their diagnosis you think! cheers Bob
@alan4x
@alan4x 4 года назад
if your clear coolant expansion bottle is black inside it is a sign of engine gasses in the cooling system..also if a lot of pressure is building up inside the header tank then you could have a head gasket failure

ROBERT GIBSON - Vauxhall were finished a long time a ago. All they have been for a very long time is badges stuck on German and Asian designed cars that were made in lots of different countries with only a few Astras made here and their Combo van is just a rebadged FIAT and the bigger vans rebadged Renaults and they are all now Peugeot/Citroens because GM has been going down the pan for years and sold Opel/Vauxhall to them and now what is left of Vauxhall will probably at some point be shut down as part of a future rationalisation and cost cutting by that French company especially as the French and German governments will pump money into keeping the car plants going in their countries while the British government will not. Can see the Nissan plant in this country being vulnerable as well since Nissan is still in trouble with not making profits and getting slated for their unreliablity even after Renault stepping in and saving them from going bankrupt years ago - cant see Renault putting up with much more of that especially as they are making huge profits and with the problems at Land Rover/Jaguar as well it doesnt look like a rosy future for what is left of the car industry in this country with them all being foreign owned especially with another banking crash looking likely as well at some point.
