In this video I show how to fix the seemingly common issue of a damp passenger foot well cause by a coolant leak. Song used - I'm Sorry (feat. shilou) by Swell / swell-im-sorry-feat-sh...
Guys! DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!!! Turn on the ignition and turn off the heater, only 2dl of coolant will flow out of the pipe.. O-ring part nr.: 6464V1
Thanks for the tip on what the water problem is.I didn't touch anything under the bonnet and just took the panel off next to the heater core, took the screw and bolt out that hold the tubes and wiggled out the matrix.Put an old towel to catch the old coolant, already heaps on the floor from the initial leak so a bit more spilt wasn't a problem.Went down the local parts shop and got 2 new O-rings 50 cents each.Very quick and easy job,I don't have a Torq set for the screws so just used an Allen key to undo the screws. Also replaced all the coolant as it 13 years old.
Thanks for making this video mate, it helped a lot. If I could give a few additions; to save time it is not required to remove the battery. When the airbox is removed and the brake fluid reservoir is loose, you have a bit more space for removing the air filter. When the hose clamp of the airfilter is loosened, just wiggle it a bit up and down and then sideways. You will then be able to remove it. Also your comment of clamping the in- and outlet hoses and leave them in position, is a very good addition and will safe lots of coolant. Chance of damaging the hoses is minimal. However, beware that about 100 mL of residual fluid will come out from the out- and inlet connection of the heater matrix when the heater matrix is removed. If one removes the heater matrix carefully, the rest of the liquid will perfectly stay inside the heater matrix (+/- another 100 mL), no worries. The old rubber rings in the video seem flat on their sides when you removed them, however, they should be round (that is why they will leak after a while as they deform by the constant pressure and loose elasticity). Almost never the radiator itself is broken. Replacement rubber rings have a diameter of 21 mm and a thickness 2.5 mm. Saves a few quid for a new, complete unit indeed ;-).
PA4MW glad I could help! This was my third time doing this job. The first was unsuccessful, the second worked and the third was purely for the purpose of making a video. Originally, I took the air filter out first but then had to remove the battery to get my clamps in. I did have a tub ready for collecting the coolant out of the pipes and matrix too so I could put it back into the system. I went to a local Peugeot Citroen specialist for the o rings and was given new flat sided ones, but I believe other people had said standard o rings do work
Hiya dude. I've just used your video as a guide and pulled out the matrix in my 307 and changed o rings. Just a FYI you didn't need to bother with the engine bay stuff. I've just done same thing, but with none of the engine faff!! Cheers for this vid
@@baxter151 it *did* leak a little, but I had already lost almost all my coolant into the footwell over the last fortnight. 😮 Maybe 100 ml came out, mostly into a side cut milk bottle like your screen wash bottle in video. Now my aircon is MUCH quieter and I'm hoping the dampness fades away over the next week.
@@baxter151 its a tight fit but yup! I thought "nah, I can shave half that time off" it was just that screw up behind the glove box, man that is evil to screw back in.
Aye it’s a bloody nightmare 😂 glad you managed to get it done anyway. Although one thing, you might want to bleed the coolant pipes. I didn’t do mine when I made this video and my temperature controls for the heating is all over the place. One day 19 will be super hot, the next 23 will be freezing cold 😂
Thank you for the video. My car has the same issue with the passenger side all soaked in coolant. I will take the cover from the heater off tmr and see if the leak is from those damn o-rings. Thank you again, you're a legend!
Thank you! Glad I helped someone out. Yeah I thought that when I first had the issue haha! Found a post on a forum that said about the O rings so thought I'd give it a go before getting a new matrix, and it fixed it! Best of luck with yours :)
This was so helpful man, i definitely owe you a cold beer, but one thing though, does the car circulate the coolant at all times there despite thr heater being off ?
Hi Baxter, brilliant video. You mentioned you live near Lincoln. Do you fancy a drive to Lincoln to carry out the same work on my wife's car. I fancy having a go at it myself but have fingers like sausages and have no patience for fiddly screws. Serious offer.
Hei Baxter, very nice video and well explained. It seems that I have the same problem, maybe the next weekend I will make some time in order to confirm it. Just a short question: why was necessary to take out battery and all those stuff if the leaking problem was the Orings from inside?! This part didn’t catch it:) Cheers and merci pour ton reply!
alexandru strachinaru Hi Alexandru, glad my video was helpful! I took the battery and air filter box out to get access to the coolant pipes where they go through the firewall. In my head I wanted the clap those down to coolant didn’t constantly pour out when I took out the heater matrix, but another commenter said they didn’t do this step and had no issues. Have a go without doing anything in the engine bay if you wish but have a bucket ready 😂 best of luck!
Thanks a million for this video mate. I have an 06 307 cc and as i was just getting home, water totally p155ed out from behind the dash and in to the passenger foot well. What ever has failed has done so in a spectacular manner! I take it that the flow and return pipes to the heater matrix are the only water pipes cabin side of the bulkhead, or are there any others?
Russell Greenacre they should be the only pipes. I can’t see why there would be anymore. Glad I could help though! Best of luck with the job and let me know how it goes
Hey man, I have the same issue on my 307. Question: the coolant pipes really needs to be removed from the engine area? Can I work just in the interior of the car (removing the two screws)?
Hey man, thanks for taking the time to make this! I was freaking out as my footwell is soaked! Same car but diesel. Is there a chance it's not the o-rings? If so what else could it be? Hope it is the o-rings as it will be a quick fix with the aid of your video. Cheers
No worries man! Glad I could help! I don't think it could be anything else since those O-rings are the only seals in that area of the heating system, but you can always check your heater matrix for leaks if you want to. Does the moisture feel kinda greasy?
@@baxter151 hi buddy, just watched your video, I have same problem, knkg just brought the bloody car, so how do you check the matrix plse? And thanks to this guys thread I was gonna ask the same question, mine seems to have a rusty coloured stain in the footwell at the side so dya think someone has tried k-seal & it's not worked? I'm hoping it's just the o-rings but I'm just pissed off I gotta find someone to do it and pay them when I've only had it 10 days from car dealer He said no warranty but I know my consumer rights Just dunno wether to stick with the car long term I'm hearing so many bad things bout peugeot n I haven't got money to spare for a car that's gonna go Pete tong all the time But ..I love the car it's a cabriolet 307 1.6 If I had the tools I'd literally do it myself after this video m8 It's brilliant
@@twisted_sista_bmccleanmiss6048 - You better change either the car or the attitude ASAP! LOL 😂 I can understand being pissed about a newly bought vehicle. But if you're expecting to get a second hand vehicle without ANY issue at all. Than better wake up, 'cause dream time is over! About the "tools" BS excuse... Well, you can buy a convertible, but not a couple of torx and screw drivers, along with 2€ worth of O-rings?! Yeah, right! Cough, cough! LOL 😂
@@crpth1 I've got tools & o-rings and never expect to not have to do anything to a 2nd hand car m8🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I just didn't know if it was the matrix or where it was for that matter....sarcasm wasn't needed 6mnths on btw....
All perfectly logical and well done... EXCEPT. Why not change the coolant (and flush the system) at the same time? Can't find a better occasion, than an intervention on the cooling/heating system! A lost opportunity for sure. By the color of it, I would wild guess, its overdue any way. And let's be honest most owners don't think twice about this "regularly scheduled" maintenance. So most Peugeot's like this are running with coolant that's more than a decade old! ;-)
I did think about that, and I service my car myself regularly, but it actually wasn’t that old, and half of it had been replaced anyway by topping up the bottle from it leaking 😂 also did a test strip and it’s perfectly healthy. That’s a big problem with Peugeot’s though, because they’re cheeper cars people don’t service them as required so they get a reputation for being unreliable
For what it's worth, be advised. The 2 O-rings are cheaper than the Radweld bottle! AND they will not, literally, "bust" your cooling system over time. Of course there's a tiny bit more labor involved, but even then... ;-)
Hi Baxter, Did taking out the battery cause any security issues? Ie when the battery was reinstalled it didn’t ask for security PIN or anything like that? I know some Fords if battery is removed will cause headaches.
Hi Baxter, greetings from Sydney, Australia! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve just completed my 307& it is leak free atm. What worked for me was R-16 o-rings (3/4” diameter x 1/8” section). Fitted them over the twin metal pipes, then slipped that lot into the heater matrix. I couldn’t purchase the original Peugeot square section ring here. Thanks again for the clear instructions!
Greg Wilson no worries man, glad to be of help! Must be a different between Aussie and Euro cars but all the pipes to the heater matrix on my car were plastic. And yeah others have said that normal round section o rings work too, I was lucky enough to have a Peugeot specialist garage near me that had the square ones
Baxter my bad. On closer inspection, those twin tubes are not metal. They are indeed plastic. Anyway the point was to fit the o-rings to the tubes, then insert tubes into the heater matrix. Don’t ask me how I know 😎
John Saliba did u use a normal generic o ring as the one in the vid looks abit different than the standard o rings u can buy online? Do u remember the o ring size u fitted?
@@babluhaque757 I Used normal O rings which you can also probably buy from a hardware store. I think the external diameter was 22mm - it went on a bit tight (not too much). The original ones had a flat edge but the ones I used were round and worked just fine.
