Thanks Matt for Peugeot videos. I have chosen new 208 as my first self-paid car and Your video about 208 helped me make the choice. its amazing so far! (Almost 2 years)
bought the full package e-208 last year and its amazing. never liked Peugeot in the past but they are killing it with the new design. would have really loved the 308 instead but I wanted full electric and the 308 would have cost like 10k more. the small look over steering wheel is so damn good. it feels really sporty and also looks damn good. I recently sat in a brand new audi rsq3 and I hated the steering wheel It felt so clunky compared to the peugeot
PSA/Stellantis have done an outstanding job on all of the EMP2 and CMP-Platform Cars. They not only look great but they're all super reliable. Styling-Wise, this 308 is defiently one of my favorite EMP2 Cars after the new DS4 (E-Tense).
Check out the Peugeot forum for missing specifications on the new 308. I took delivery of a new 308 GT on 19th October. Missing due to global part shortages... no wireless charging, no 3D feature on the i-cockpit, no heated windscreen, no centre console coloured led. Seems that Peugeot expect us all to accept these missing specifications but pay the same price.
One thing is pissing me off or maybe it was for the video, It was raining, surely automatic light and it's not even activated when everyone is on ... I don't understand way this is not there
Hiya matt is there any possibility please that you can review the 2024 Peugeot 308 gt model 1.5 diesel in Ockendon white please pretty please as nobody reviews a car as good as you 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks Mike
Too bad they don't sell in the U.S.....would be a HUGE market. Germany has the autobahn, but the United States is Porsche's biggest customer......imagine that....Porsche is smart.
I worked Uber In one of these for the last 6 months, did around 30k km, no problems whatsoever. And the car I was renting was the problematic 1.5 litre engine that is supposedly a piece of crap. One of the most comfortable cars I've driven and I was averaging 4.8-5.2 liters /100km.
The petrol flap on our hybrid locks separately as the petrol tank is slightly pressurised and you have to hold the button for 5 seconds. It's to do with crash protection for the tank.
And its also to keep the gasoline from degrading through evaporation, since gas goes bad over time. I believe 90 days is where most hybrids will start using the ICE a bit more to burn off old fuel in order to avoid any fuel/ICE related issues.
Really impressed with the interior material quality. The new golf feels cheap in comparison. The new golf doesn't even have a felt lined glove box and I'm happy that Peugeot took the time to address the issue of moving the fuse box. Well done to them.
It's not surprising that Peugeot are being compared to Volkswagen or BMW nowadays. I agree that the quality of finish inside is very good but what's more is your also getting the spaciousness that we have come to expect from a Peugeot. By far the classiest looking French cars.
New Peugeots looks absolutely stunning. I own 308 GTi BPS for nearly 5 years now and Never had single issue either! They're not just good looking 🙏👍😃 And thus 308 is definitely better looking than boring Golf 🥱
I have a 308 Gti too, into my 6th year of ownership. It gets a hammering and has never let me down. £100 on repairs in 5 years, I'd say that's very reliable!
funny how within the space of about a decade peugeot went from making laughing stock fish-faced cars to cars that could sit right at home in an art gallery
@@purwantiallan5089 No the first 308 looked ugly. The 308 II looked very good, but the 306 is maybe one of the best looking hot hatch of the 90’s. It’s exterior design (like facelift 106) still doesn’t look outdated nowadays. When you compare Golf 3, 4, Renault Mégane, Citroen Xsara, Opel Astra, Rover 200, Ford Escort/Focus of the same era they look pretty outdated compared to the 306.
I buy cars to drive. I don't care about looks or colour - That's why we've had Peugeots since 1957. I live in Australia so we do large distances - That's where Peugeots shine. Great touring cars. can sit on 180kph all day every day.
I’ve been driving for 5month now, when I get my no claim bonus I’m looking to get a new car, I was think 2019 Mazda 3 Gt sport tech or this new Peugeot 308. Any advice?
Better than golf? I am sure that it is an equal competitor to the Audi A3, A-Class and BMW 1. I think the Mazda 3 and Peugeot 308 offer more than the so-called German premium.
Agreed! The golf is out of the equation here to a high extent. I would say, if they manage to put some more premium touches here and there with good specifications and editions, then yes Audi, Mercedes and BMW should be worried.
@@freepadz6241 very true! If I want a fancy Passat, i’ll just buy and A4/A5. Peugeot is now working on moving upmarket, so I think they will gradually become on the same level as Alfa Romeo!
I've ordered this car a couple of weeks ago and was really looking forward to the Carwow review but I've got to say, it was a bit of a let down. Overall it was the usual good Mat's review but the fact that they didn't bother to charge the battery and test the various drive modes properly, nor do a 0-60 and a 60-0 test or even state whether he was testing the 180 hp or the 225 hp version, felt a bit like a cop out. Also, does anybody know what's the deal with the official 0-60 times for the 180 hp and the 225 hp versions being only 0.1 sec apart?!
The max torque of both these cars is the same, so perhaps the increase in power is slightly offset by the slight increase in its weight? I have the 3008 GT4 hybrid (300bhp) and chose this as it felt so much quicker than the 225hp version. Got it through Car Wow and it turned a crazy expensive car into an affordable one. £9k off and £7.3k off the finance. Loving the car so far except for the problem with charging whilst on the road. 3.7kwh is way too slow to charge in most places.
@@GeordieAmanda Maybe, but there are 30 kg or around 65 pounds between the 180 and the 225, that should be almost insignificant compared to the 45hp difference. Also odd how the only difference is supposed to be a 150hp vs a 180hp engine but the final output is 45hp apart. Maybe there's a bottleneck somewhere, i.e. in the gearbox, which auto-limits the output at lower gears so there isn't much difference in the 0-60. I went for the 225hp version, 1200 euro differences wasn't that much on such an expensive car, and at least when the battery is dead you get 30hp extra which can't hurt with such a heavy car. Plus I've seen some videos of it doing 0-60 in 6.7-7.8 seconds so fingers crossed. Oh, and I went for the 7.4kw onboard charger to avoid the issue you mentioned with your 3008. Still, wish they had a 300hp all wheel drive version of the 308 too!
@@Totano84 I would have loved the 7kw charger, but the deal was on a 3.7kw version. I don't get anything like the advertised electric mileage (less than 50% usually, even when driven carefully) and there are many threads on the Internet about this from other people. The key, I've found, to 'best mpg' is to always use the sat nav, as it calculates when it's most advantageous to use the battery. I do love the comfort of the car as I'm so used to fast German cars that have firm springs and are heavily damped, it's a bit of a revelation really and reminds me of when I was learning to drive many years ago and cars had much softer suspension. It's an excellent motorway car, even if that's not where the hybrid parts is at its best (well, that's not totally true in the usual roadworks of course :D ) I wondered why my car didn't have more combined power/torque, but it turns out the limit of the gear box is pretty much maxed out. I think it's the same gear box in cars like the BMW M135 and countless others and they all peak at around the same max power/torque. This is an interesting comparison of what the weight of a couple of adults can do to the performance of an M3. It's quite noticeable too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d_FLtFutnho.html
You never heard about 3cyl diesels?! If you mean in PSA group, ok... otherwise they are very common on other brands: VW's, SEAT, Skoda, Audi, 1.4tdi BMW 116d 1.5 since 2015 Smart 0.8 CDI. Kia/Hyundai 1.1CRDI ...
@@fohatadri In Australia we have the 2.0L Turbo Diesel (in the older models) best engine they ever made. Reliable and it flies. I have 150,000Kms on it and it's just run in.
I test drove one of these last week (GT petrol) and it blew me away. BTW the touch keys below the center display are programmable, you can assign them to any shortcut you want, very cool. I have a 2020 Peugeot 308 130hp diesel, and I'm loving the small steering wheel. Once you get used to it, you won't go back, I assure you. The main thing to remember is that - by design - you have to look at the dials above the wheel, not through it. This way you also rest your arms on your thighs, so on long journeys your shoulders won't hurt.
@@purwantiallan5089 That's really very subjective. One can say "I like this better than that", no one should say "This is better than that". I've driven more that 40 different cars in my life (work reasons) and I wouldn't be caught dead in a German car, unless my life depended on it. Statistically they are quite unreliable, proven by reports and such published annually. And as far as design goes, I personally find them as appealing as a brick. But again, just my personal taste. I'm sure those who choose them have plenty of reason to like them and that's great.
Exactly! That’s the right way i’ve set it up since the day I got my 308 GT Line, set it low and look above it with arms rested on knees! It becomes hard to accept other cars’ bigger steering wheels!
@@purwantiallan5089 biased views from someone who doesn't even drive a Peugeot (clearly) are so outdated and boring now. Everyone has an opinion but I believe yours is just in aid to be malicious
Their new designs are d*mn good looking! Also the new Peugeot logo is beautiful! Looks good and modern (a lot better than most modern modernized logos)
Except for the 1990's the French have been pretty good with their cars. We've owned Peugeots for 60 years (the family) together with a few Renaults. Great cars, extremely reliable, and terrific touring cars (I live in Australia)
Id definitely prefer this over a golf. Their interiors are really boring, and the quality has gone down hill, at least when it comes to how the plastics feel
The Golf is far less likely to spring a nasty surprise on you every few months. I wonder how many PSA cars I'll have to buy to find one that doesn't. They promised they'd squashed their quality bugs in 2012, in 2016, in 2018...
I've got a 308 GT line 150 bhp 2.0 diesel from 2017. Brilliant motorway consumption, normal consumption running at 5,1 L /100kms. Excellent steering with the small staring wheel. Done loads of long trips with fam in it.
I’ve been driving for 5month now, when I get my no claim bonus I’m looking to get a new car, I was think 2019 Mazda 3 Gt sport tech or this new Peugeot 308. Any advice?
@@Pit-jt3lw well the no claim bonus is going to accumulate every year, it's not just 1 year and you're done - my first year insurance was £2250, second year was £1500, and third year was £630... You get 'max' discount at 5 but it keeps building. You are best comparing insurance between both cars and put in that you have 1 year NCD and see the "predicted" prices. Hopefully that helps you make a better informed decision
Ive driven this, the Golf, the BMW 1 series and the Audi A3. The current A3 is just a small upgrade from the Golf and seriously, the 308 is so much better than the A3. It's no competitiion for the Golf at all. The BMW is really sporty, but I'd say the 308 on the GT version is on par in terms of quality with the 1 series. With 1 plus for the 308: you get a ton of options not even available on the current 1 series for the same price of a rather basic 1 series. Just 1 downside, this will be, by far, the most popular new car in the coming years. So you won't be alone driving this.
I've had my 308 over 5 years, most reliable car I've had. My issue now is even the most powerful version is 45 bhp down on my current one, and is almost £40k too. Guess I'll be sticking with my trusty steed for a while yet!
I can confirm reliability. Mine its 308SW now 6 year old 110k miles on clock. I done some epic rides like 7500 miles in month acros the Europe or 3000miles in less the 50h. Never let me down. Apart standard service I had to replace 1 spring, brake disk and pads and AC top up. My previous 307 lasted 248k miles when i sold.
I love design of this car, but deal breaker for me was Matrix LED headlights and 4cyl engines in Golf/Octavia (picked octavia, same trim level, bigger car and cost less than Golf with more "must-have" features that are standart for octavia and extra in Golf )
I did exactly that two years ago, I was considering buying the golf but when I saw the Octavia I prefered it instantly. For 24.000€ it was a good deal getting the 1,5l 150hp style trim Octavia. 20.000km up to now and all is fine.
I'd take a Mazda 3 over this any day of the week. It's better to drive and will be more reliable! I see Peugeot are copying Mazda's soul red crystal with this paint job!!
I really love Carwow and how Matt explains everything in detail. I really wish there was an RU-vid channel where someone explained as thoroughly, but for older cars. Cars that are now on the market for several years and the reviewer gives advice based on reviews - don't buy this engine, the other engine is more durable, etc.
I'm 50 and my husband 54 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no depts Currently living smart and frugal with our money.serving and investing life style in the stock market made it possible for us this early even till now we earn weekly. Thanks to fire movement.
Matt, the fuel cap is pressure release due to having hybrid and the extra safety needed when having batteries onboard. No oxygen means no fire. Pretty clever and thought you'd like to know for future reference.
Great tip to try the cockpit before you buy one, I’ve had a couple of Peugeot hire cars and couldn’t get it right, to get the wheel low enough to see over I was always hitting my legs on the wheel any higher and I couldn’t see the dial was really frustrating.
Good to know how this one compares to the previous 308. I had the 308 gt line but moved to an Audi A4 in 2016. This model is tempting enough to make me wanna go back to the lion
i've had a few french cars in the past and they are seriously underated, this looks great apart from the rear visability which to me looked like looking through an extremely small letter box. the bonnet looks extremely long aswell considering the sizes of the engines available. is the rear seat height issue improved (as well potentially the rear view) on the petrol/diesel models, as guessing the hybrids part you mention in the boot section, mean the seat are higher up in the cabin?
I've been testing petrol plug ins recently and actually it seems the 308 isn't very economical in hybrid mode with the battery fully depleted. I did a test in the Ford Kuga with empty battery and was getting 56mpg for main road driving. Much bigger vehicle but much more economical and when you factor discounts and PCP, I expect the Kuga to be cheaper too.
One of the good things is the wiper comes on when u engage the reverse if it’s raining. My focus has had that for years. Even many other cars has it. I would have thought that was a standard feature by all cars now a days ? The car is very nice tho and looks really stylish. Just not a lover of the steering wheel. But everything else is nice.
The most striking thing is that the new 308 looks almost identical to my own sketch of a dream hatch back back in my high school days in 2015, both inside and out 😳😳😳
Finally a Real Golf alternative that doesn't demand compromises. I salute Peugeot for their design and interior. Had a 405 back in the day and it was so comfortable. Looks like they are going back to their roots. Golf receeds- Peugeot advances. Dont like the new lion. It looks like it was designed by the people who gave Cupra their klingon monstrosity. First Peugeot I would consider buying in donkeys years and it would be the hybrid i would choose too. Would wait to see if the estate was just as good looking as the hatch.
Finally a Golf alternative? Peugeot 308 was far better than golf in the past 10 years, making real progress in terms of design and technology. If you hide the golf's headlights you could hardly tell the difference between the 2005 and 2015 models. Pathetic, boring German car, not comparable with this gorgeous car
I think Golf has to be more generic at design on purpose because customers are used to it and like the design ( like the I phones design) and despite peugeot is more interesting to look at I don't think it will age as well as the golf
Golf already looks aged. At least in this you have a car that is gonna look great for the next 3-4 years. VW makes cars that looks 3-4 years older than what they actually are with the exception of Arteon
@@TheRabbitsaver not so sure about that. When I look at a Polo IV and compare it with a Peugeot 206, the Peugeot now looks much uglier, while back then it was considered a much better looking car. VW is known for having quite austere designs that work better on the long run. I still find the Golf 1, 2 and 3 quite nice and much better than most of its competitors from each era. Obviously all of this is subjective though....
@@spaceman3977 back then you were right cause I don't think the Peugeot actually looked better than their VW counterparts but now is a whole different ballgame. All the new Peugeot designs aren't rounded ugly designs but actually almost like concept designs of most other cars.
