Peugeot 406 V6 - Changing Timing Belt 

+rcflajjer Thanks! Locating pins are made of 8mm (outside diameter) hydraulic pipe. Camshaft pins are about 100mm long and the crankshaft pin is about 150mm long. Your local hydraulic shop can supply the materials for about 10 euros, so no need to spend so much money. The handles are for ease of use, dimensions are not critical. The pins fit very tightly to the locating holes, so you would have hard time getting those out without the handles. There are so many guides and even videos about the job, so I suggest you do a search with "es9j4 timing belt" :)

+cariusx Thanks! In the first start the engine sounds little rough because I also changed oil and filter, so it takes a few seconds to fill the oil system. The noise that disappears when i blip the throttle at 3:40 is some noisy hydraulic valve lifter, nothing serious.

+SwPiotrek It really isn´t that hard, just quite a lot of work :)

I am sorry, but I am not going to be doing a video like that because: 1. Most people wouldn't like to watch over 2 hours of video about removing parts to even get to the belt 2. I had no time to film everything, so there would be lots of inconsistencies in the video 3. I had copyrighted music playing in the background, so I would still have to remove the soundtrack and find hours of background music. Hope you understand :)

The purpose is to show the basic construction and maybe entertain someone :) . There are many very good and comprehensive guides for replacing the timing belt for this engine out there, just do a quick search.

for me, it was helpful because i just wanted to have a quick overview of where the pulleys are placed and what is necessary to be able to get the belt off.

The change interval recommendation depends of the country and climate you live in. Here in Finland it is 120000km or 4 years. If I remember right, in southern europe it is 160000km or 10 years.
