@A real bisexual petrol-head I see you comment a lot here so you must be a hater. The man tries to cove in 10 min almost all that matters. Even the damn cover and no place to store it. I was gone with my car and suddenly i had to lift something up. I couldn't do it because i had no where to store the cargo cover. if you don't like it don't watch it. easy as that

The scratchy black plastics in many of the new cars are annoying as hell. It is just something which is cheap and can ruin the whole feeling. All cheap car has these black plastics (and yes, even mid-level cars as well) and I just can't stand it. It can turn ugly really fast, so no, it is not just Matts problem. It shows dust instantly, fingerprints, scratches.... Why do the manufacturers use them? I have no idea.

Visually the Insignia was always going to be on the back foot with it being supplied for the test in White, which any of these cars would tend to look a little featureless. Give it a similar metallic colour to the others and it's appearance wouldn't be as cool as the Peugeot but would certainly bring it more up to par. Good value family hatchback.

Vauxhalls are actually quite minimalistic luxury, specially when you get near to the top of the range. Go to Vauxhalls website and use the "build a car" feature to spec up an Insignia, and use the 360 view to have a good look. I used that to figure out what I wanted, then went to a dealership to get one second hand. Got exactly what I wanted, pure luck that car had entered their system the day before. Astra Sports Tourer SRI, deep cosmic blue, 1.4 turbo Petrol, manual, 125bhp. Perfect car for me. You might find the same with an Insignia, or try looking at their other cars.

The Vauxhall Insignia has better colours than that unattractive white paint in the video. The Lava Red for example is, in my opinion, the best looking Insignia colour of them all. And it only costs an extra £285 (same as that white). The Insignia will look even much better if you go for the VX Line spec and then add the optional £1,295 IntelliLux LED Matrix headlights. It's just a shame that in this video, a low spec Insignia was compared to high spec opponents. Both the Mazda 6 and Peugeot 508 featured in this video are the ranging topping models while the Insignia is not. It still won the comparison nonetheless. It deserved it, because the Insignia is a very good car.

They paid a visit Opel/Vauxhall HQ to find out about the viability. Just that one visit was enough to convince them otherwise. They found an aging platform that was too heavy, not electric ready and was going to take them backwards emissionwisely. They went back and decided to rebuild the 508. @RogerPierre Mazda have improved massively over the past few years let alone the past 10-15 (when Ford had a big stake in Mazda) the quality for the value you pay is incredible. Look at the safety features you get as standard on the majority of the ranges. The mazda 6 will not lose as much money over 3 years as the other models. Stop talking rubbish. Brand snobbery

It's pure badge snobery. I was mocked for buying Vauxhall the first time... was a good car with some problems due to previous usage, and then mocked for buying ANOTHER vauxhall... oh boy did I prove everyone who mocked wrong with how good the car is. My second Astra, this time a 2016 Sports Tourer. Very nice car. Apparently looks very agressive. I have to strongly disagree with Matt's recommendation to get the Mazda with a 180hp diesel. NO! If you want a diesel you get the Peugeot, or just one of the VW family. Mazda is for the 2.0 naturally aspirated old-school car with a manual, or the 2.5 with an automatic . Also I knew several people with both these engines - the petrol owners were way happier than the diesel.

I’ve had the range topping Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0 Turbo 4x4 (260hp petrol) now for 1.5 yrs and 27000kms and it’s actually the best car I’ve owned, including 3 Audis (of one S4), one MB, one VW, 2 Jeeps, 3 Hyundais, 1 Fiat, 3 Fords, 1 Chevy, a MINI and 8 Porsches. Actually I chose the Insignia over a Porsche SUV/Panamera. The total package the Insignia delivers is absolutely awesome. Besides the amazing Intellilux matrix lights which is always left at auto high beam, the Webasto heater and the super duper FlexRide chassis, I must say the BOSE noise cancelling system of the passenger compartment is my favorite tech. The mechanical 4x4 system with the active tourqe diff on the rear axel is brilliant driving on Scandinavian winter roads. And the towing capacity of 2.2tonnes makes it a capable hauler also. Brilliant car from Rüsselsheim, before any PSA interference. It’s a keeper!
