I've been observing how this series, especially when inside the Peyton mansion, that, despite the turmoil of the 60's swirling around them, there still seemed to be, in at least some portions & levels of society, a sense of elegance & decorum---whether clothing, manners, certain polite rituals & gestures, cultivated & civil language, etc.---such still existed & even was expected. Much in that era was changing and/or disintegrating, whether respect for authority, traditional family structures, religious beliefs & practices, politics, and/or confidence in long-standing public institutions---many of these already crumbling into dust or morphing into unrecognizable new concepts, and yet---a certain modicum of classiness, appropriate attire, modesty/humility, & common civility remained desirable & treasured in the nation. It's hard not to feel overwhelmed by nostalgia, wistfulness, and just plain amazement & fascination while watching this series. We've lost so much as a society, losses beginning to occur in the time-period of this program, but which were clinging for life in a kind of societal last-stand.
Rita has the right to be annoyed that her mother didn't tell her that her father was in town. That's it. Rita had no right to be angry at her for anything else. For a man to desert his wife and for his wife to raise their a child alone, that is a big responsibility. I supposed Rita has the right to ask if her father had ever reappeared, but that's it! I am ashamed of her treatment towards Ada here.
I love the chic dresses the women wear! Hannah Cord's elegant suits were to die for. They say the ladies's clothes were all from Joseph Magnin's. The false eyelashes, however, are hideous.
Steven is physically abusive just like Betty’s father, but worst. He’s physically abusive to Adrienne, too, so he must be that way to all women. He’s actually quite scary.
Would you be mad at the mother who stayed and took care of you even though she considers herself an adequate and her capability as a mother that she lacks she’s trying every way to be angry at such a mother is inappropriate even over the father who left basically the day you were born and then returns when you are grown and married he could be considered honor thy father and mother the first command with a promise and yet you can do that from a distance
A man’s interest and desire incited the actual interesting part to watch a married man we speak of those things in terms of the time people view things quite differently now I know I’m not living in the dark ages.
