Ibn 'Abd Al-Barr رحمه الله said: الجن عند أهل الكلام والعلم باللسان على مراتب The Jinn according to the theologians and scholars of language and philologists are divided into ranks: فإذا ذكروا الجن خالصًا قالوا: جني 1. When "Jinn" is mentioned alone, then they call them: "Jinniy." فإذا أرادوا أنه مما يسكن مع الناس، قالوا: عامر، والجمع عُمَّار. 2. When they intend those (Jinn) who live among humans, then they call them: "Aamir" and the plural is "Ammar." فإن كان مما يعرض للصبيان قالوا: أرواح 3. If the (Jinn) is of those who antagonize the kids and youth, they call them: "Arwaah (Spirits)." فإن خبث وتعرَّض قالوا: شيطان 4. If (the Jinn) is malicious and hostile, they call it: "Shaytan (devil)." فإن زاد على ذلك سمي: مارد 5. If it increases in that, they call it: "Maarid.". فإن زاد على ذلك وقوي سمي: عفريت 6. And if it increases in that and is very strong, they call it: "Ifreet." [At-Tamheed of Ibn 'Abd Al-Barr] The youth need to learn Ayat Al-Kursi and be protected from the ones that whisper to their hearts lest they think it is their own thoughts and voices. Also to teach them that ✡ are sawaahir (magicians) who worship and work with the shayateen. Allah سبحانه وتعالى said, وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ And say: "My Lord! I seek refuge with You from the whisperings (suggestions) of the Shayateen (jinn devils)." وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ "And I seek refuge with You, My Lord! lest they should come near me." [Al-Mu'minun 23:97-98]
