I like this reel Dennis. I liked the earlier Pflueger President reels even more. Even with Shakespeare getting Pflueger these reels have maintained their quality. I don’t know if I’d buy this one or not but it is a solid reel. I got a True Temper 747 3 ball bearing reel. I already have one but it was not in very good shape. This one looks much better. - Chris (you’re right about that nice Offshore Angler Gold Cup spinning reel, I’ll be looking for one. That double anti-reverse dog setup was great!)
I suggest that all reels be serviced annually. Either before you start the season, or once you finish. I prefer to make these winter projects so that they are ready for the spring runs - Thanks for asking - Dennis
I have one of these I bought 20+years ago. It's never been used. Just sitting in the original box collecting dust. They are nice looking reels and quite smooth as I recall. Have to take a look at it one of these days. Good video that may be helpful when I decide to use it. 20+ year old grease will probably need to be replaced 🤨
Gave a like and subscribed! Guys like dennis are like dinosaurs!! Their isnt alot of guys that tackle all different reels! Lots of knowledge here ! Thanks ! I'm a shimano guy ! But I do have a president! Great reel for the $ ! Peace buddy !
A few years ago a friend accidently stepped on his Pflueger President and broke the reel foot off the frame. He was going to throw it away, but I asked if I could have it. He let me have it, I ordered a new frame and moved all the parts from the broken frame to the new frame. I mailed the good-as-new reel back to my friend, and he was very surprised..
It looks like a good quality real so I'm wondering how it ended up dry inside but there was little evidence of old grease. Do you think they just oiled it and did not use grease when they built it?
I recommend the annual maintenance as shown in the video. A short version would be to keep the reel clean and free of dirt or salt and then a drop of oil or two through the handle slot and one on the base of the axle shaft after you remove the spool
Hi Dennis I have a president 6735 that I took apart and after reinstalling there is a clicking noise and the anti-reverse isn’t working. Any ideas about what the problem is and how to fix?
That's hard to say. When you reinstalled the A/R clutch did you attach the small spring that holds the override arm to the lever on the clutch? Tha is my first guess. If that is not it, I think you need to go back and recheck you work and maybe start over. Make sure you get the schematic to compare against - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle yes I actually bought a new spring and attached it. The original went flying into the carpet not to be found. I’ve torn it down twice now with no luck
