Was stationed there in 1970 in the USAF at the base. The temple was visible from our base and we were able to get to the beach on our time off. The town was off limits to USAF personnel except security forces, but had been open previously. Obviously, after 52 years, a lot has changed. There was nothing much at the beach area where your two were except sand, water and heat. Lots and lots of heat! Occasionally, it would be off limits to us due to enemy activity in the area. Off to the right of where you were at the beach, near that outcropping, was a port where supplies and munitions would be offloaded from ships. You could see the cranes standing tall off in the distance. It's nice to see the country has recovered from that horrible war and appears to be thriving, on the whole. Thanks for your little travelogue. Brought back some memories. Safe travels!
