To any beginners out there, the phantom's don't usually drift as much as it does on this video, the drone is drifting so much because he intended it that way, he initialized the drone on uneven ground to demonstrate drift on Altitude mode, the road is tilted forwards & to the right, so in Altitude mode the drone drifted forwards & to the right, always make sure you switch on your drone on even ground, not doing so will cause the motors on one side to work harder in order to compensate for the tilt, the greater the tilt the harder the motors will work in order to maintain a stable position in GPS mode.
A brief explanation to using your shutter speed to help your frame rate. The lower you set your exposure on auto with the DJI Phantom, the higher the shutter speed goes in an attempt to control the exposure (light entering the lens). The higher the shutter speed = more jittery videos, more jello and prop interference. If you're shooting at 24p you want your shutter speed around 1/50th, 30p@1/60th, 60p@1/120th etc. 24p is a typical cinematic frame rate and gives you cinematic motion blur when using a 1/50th shutter speed. 60p is twice the frame rate which can be slowed down in post-production to 50% (30fps) and when used at 1/120 shutter speed, gives you smooth slow motion at 50% speed. If you're trying to shoot 1/50th of a second at 24p and everything is really over exposed (more than likely on a sunny day), then you're going to need neutral density (ND) filters to reduce the light entering the lens, bringing your exposure closer to normal. 24p@1/50th + ND filters to correct the exposure = cinematic drone footage (more motion blur).
Thanks for moving quickly through everything! Nothing worse than watching a video where somebody is over explaining everything. Looking forward to other videos from you.
Good vid - I like that you calibrated it by turning the quad round its own axis, not using your body as the axis and spinning it round yourself like most demonstrations do. It still seems to calibrate the other way but it can't be as accurate IMO.
I have had one of these for 3 years and I have never flown it. I found DJI's instructions so complicated and incomprehensible that I was afraid that the drone would fly away and fall on someone. It took me a couple of hours to figure out how to even start the damn thing. I held on to it when I finally got it started because I thought it would do something unpredictable or just fly away. The screen was so complicated and jumbled with icons, numbers and things that I couldn't make sense of anything. DJI has done a really bad job of explaining the operation of this drone and making it easy for beginners. The whole experience actually turned me off to the whole drone experience. Your instructions were much better but I still don't have confidence that the damn thing won't just fly away never to be seen again. I may try again and if it flies away I'm not even going to look for it.
Good Stuff - by the way, the two quick blasts of power on spool up is designed to check to see if the props are tight - its actually speeding up and braking twice to check to see if the props are tight. If they were loose they would fly off on the ground and it the processor will power back down. Nice Job Mike Mas
yeah as Cody said, I've seen a lot of dji tutorials specifically this n the phantom 4, yeah you sold it perfectly, in all honesty I was enjoying it and then it was over, this was well presented and it's easy to watch, bring out more vids, I want the 4 but it's too much, gonna look at getting the 3 in a few weeks so keep up with the quality work
You gave a very nice and complete explanation to……yourself. For us-people with not or very little experience, we lost most of it. I am retired but I had between 10 and 25 solicitors and my motto was: treat people respectfully and as if they are mentally disabled
Subaru driver 😄 Most of my close relatives drives Subaru, everything from Impreza, Legacy, Outback and Forester. I myself got two Legacy and one Impreza 👌🏻 The reason I'm here is that my dad got a phantom for his birthday several years ago and it's barely used. Going to ask him if I can borrow it. 🤓
Thanks for that. I have one on the way and every bit of tutorial I get before I start flying it helps! Except I don't advise slow takeoff and landing, you can flip the drone from ground effect.
Great video... Just got a P3A and digging for info. One point I must make: At 08:57, you state "I'm using only the left stick". As a humble newbie, reluctant to point fingers, I thought I would present the point for your review. Thanks, good video.
Thank you, really really helpful. I am preparing to buy Phantom 3 Professional for wedding photography basically. This would be my first drone so I wanna learn as much as I can before buying it. I know it would be very helpful to get a cheaper drone to practice first but i don't have extra bucks to spend on that. So thank you
+Subeiro Gyimah Definitely recommend getting a cheap small drone to learn on. You will most likely find that the Phantom 3 is actually much easier to fly than the trainer quadcopter. But, it will be expensive to crash a Phantom 3 instead of learning on a small one. Fly safe and have fun!
+Jennifer Mc Syma X5 is a good size for a Phantom trainer, flies really good, is durable and super cheap. I also like the Hubsan X4 H107 and the Blade Nano QX.
Hello. I have a little problem with my phantom 3 SE. It just goes up by itself, and when i'm landing the drone is hitting the ground hardly. If you know how to fix this, please write it here on this comment
Nicely done .. very professional. I have a P3A coming in a couple days and am now trying to glean all I can from vids. I have plenty of flying experience, so that won't be a problem (from a Syma nano to my XK X380 gps bird ... 10 quads in all). Already have downloaded latest firmware upgrade and will put that on the SD card and pop it into the camera slot and get upgrade out of the way. Might need additional upgrades for TX & batteries .. not sure. Will check back and view some of your other vids. Cheers.
I am relearning how to use this drone after it has been in storage for 2 years. I tried the dji go app first with no luck. now i'm going to try the pilot. the pilot is what i used when we first bought this drone. will give you an update.
Your video was great EXCEPT...it was for people who are very familiar with drones. For someone who has never flown one before and doesn't understand all the details you described on the ipad "all the abbreviations" you used as you spoke very fast.....where would one go to learn all of that?
Hey!...thanks for putting out this very good informational video...I have a question 🙋🏽♂️...what if I would really like to get into droning...but...I live deep within a major city...how can one like me fly drones...with having to load me and my gear up...and have to drive...10, 20, 30 miles outside the city to fly a drone... ...it almost seem very exclusionary...and such a hobby is for folks who live in the middle of nowhere...😣😖😣
That's a good question, but no. With DJI you wouldn't want to. If you want to do a Headless mode, I recommend building your own with the Raspberry Pi and Pixhawk. It looks pretty interesting.
How do you lift up your Phantom? I have installed everything but can't lift it up? Does the iPhone cable always have to be connected to the DJI remote in order for it to take off?
perfect, thank you. I purchased a Phantom 3 Standard yesterday and am looking forward to playing with it...I wanted to get the professional, but I can't justify paying $400 more since the only thing that entices me about the pro is the longer range...I am just fine with a 2.7k camera.
SuperDrones ya, I think it will be just fine for my needs, I can always add an argtek or some other type of extender on the standard if the range is not adequate...
Thanks for the tips. My first fly was a terrible experience. My drone flew away from me cause I didn't calibrate and I almost lost it. Good thing I reacted fast and hit the back to home button.
Good tutorial, straight to the point, no nonsense blabber about things don't care about. I am definitely getting this model. Does this model follow you? Does it have active follow with GPS? I was thinking of driving my car and having this hover above my car as I drive and recording my driving haha!
If you dont care about the 4k camera get the Phantom 3 advanced which has all the feature of the pro but the camera is 2.7k instead of the 4k camera on the pro and yes im pretty sure this the advanced and pro will follow you but not sure if the standard does!
+caleb bautista -brown I've heard that the newest version of the DJI GO app works well on the S6. As with all phones and tablets, it is a good idea to close all other apps and put the phone in airplane mode while using the GO app.
Great video...my P3 4K is still in the box unopened...as a past CPP photographer with the PP of A, I really appreciated the detail as to the histogram and other photo controls you demonstrated.....you covered a great deal in a very short time...very efficent...again...THANK YOU!!
Your Phantom 3 remote is different than mine you have what is similar to the Phantom 4 controller what can you tell me about this? I think I just figured it out, I have the standard you have the Professional
Nice vid, just have the problem that I got the drone right today by a family member, cause it is not giving any picture to the app anymore. Is there anyone who knows how I can fix that problem?
loved you video👍👍 Picking up my 3 advance this week but there is a few things that are doing my head in 😉 I have watched so many videos on RU-vid about firmware updates and how many people have trouble with updating with certain kind of phones and tablets..I think I have over fill my brain with to much to think about😕 so i would love your advice as you seem to know your stuff. . ipad mini 4 or a ipad air 2 if you could help me with this I would much appreciate it, and a recommendation for a sd card Thankyou in advance.
Hi Dean, either the iPad Mini 4 or the iPad Air 2 are both great choices. Some prefer the more manageable size of the Mini 4 and some the bigger screen of the Air 2. Just personal preference. Both have super fast processors that handle the DJI GO app with ease. The firmware updates are actually super easy. Mistake most people make while updating is they get impatient or incorrectly assume that the update has failed before it completes. Many of the updates can take as long as 25 minutes to complete with all kind of weird things happening while the drone is updating like gimbal going limp, different lights flashing at different speeds etc. I just start the update and timer on my phone for 25 minutes and leave it alone. DJI has programmed the firmware to restart if it is interrupted or fails as a failsafe. Just be patient and let it complete and you'll be fine. After it is done, there is a .txt file that shows if it was "Success" or not. So really no guess work. All the Phantoms come with a Micro SD to get you started, but I typically use the Lexar 633x 64GB and have had good luck with them. If you have not purchased your P3 Advanced yet, be sure to check them out on our site and give us a chance to earn your business. superdrones.com/index.php/drones/dji-phantom.html Even if you have bought somewhere else already, I'm always happy to help. jeff@superdrones.com
+SuperDrones Thanks for your reply. I have already ordered and payed for the dji but would be happy to consider accessories or even a upgrade later on if your happy to ship to Australia.
Thanks for your video. I really enjoyed and learned. I will be buying one and plan to take it with me on holiday to a place where there is no internet signal. Will it work properly like in London or in your place.
+G Mahinda Bandara Yes they do not need internet to operate. Many people get confused that they need an internet connection to fly. You just need to update it before you leave for vacation and cache all the areas that you will be flying in the GO app while connected to the internet. Also be sure to calibrate the compass before taking off. No internet connection needed for that. Enjoy!
Great tutorial - could you give me the specs on the cord you purchased from amazon! The one I located was "USB Type C Cable 3.3ft (1m) - Type C Reversible to Micro USB Type B - USB 2.0 High Speed - Data Sync & Charging Cord for Phones, Tablets, Apple MacBook, Nokia Lumia, Chromebook Pixel & Asus Zen AiO". I want to make sure that I get the correct one? Thanks in advance.
+Shawn Scott Yes the Phantom 3 Standard has a really good GPS position hold for outdoor flight. Here's a post I did comparing the Phantom 3 Series. superdrones.com/index.php/news/phantom-3-professional-vs-advanced-vs-standard/ The Standard relies solely on GPS whereas the Professional and Advanced have both GPS and Glonass. For indoor flight, both the Advanced and Professional have Vision Positioning (VPS) and the Standard does not. Hope this helps.
+SuperDrones Is this already comes with 3 axis gimbal? and what do you think about the out of from the box gimbal that comes from dji ? do I need to upgade the gimbal or no need?
SuperDrones I'm selling syma and heerson which is way far different than the dji therefore I'm thinking whether should I get this the ph3 standard or the 4k version. I'm a beginner to drone, and also since the FAA alreadyentioned to all drone customer to register their drone, is this bother you? And is it true that based on the FAA regulation, that the drone these days can't fly I'm a certain height?
+jliverty Good that you have learned to fly on smaller quadcopters. I actually think you will find that any of the Phantoms are super easy to fly. Choosing one of them depends mainly on what you will be using it for. If you can afford it, I recommend either the Advanced or Pro. I think the lightbridge and VPS technology is worth the extra $. However, the Standard is a great value and will allow you to shoot really nice video too. The FAA requiring registration is no big deal at all. Here is a link to learn more about it. www.faa.gov/uas/registration/ You should always fly below 400ft to make sure you don't pose a risk to full sized aircraft.
+SuperDrones yeah before I flown the syma x8w, that's exactly the same look like dji. the lightbridge is available on every dji, right? where you can streaming 720p through your tablet while the camera is recording in 1080p ? honestly I need a quadcopter for long term use. not sure whether go with the standard phantom 3 or just go with dji inspire ?
Why I´m trying the function Folow me but my djgo dont take just say turn off and try again, but turn off the app, the drone or the controler??? thanks guys!
I have a phantom 3 standard and when I push return home it drops directly down? And doesn't return to start position ... I set the height at 80 m any ideas would be helpful
Where did you get the hood for your IPad? I fly in a very sunny area with lots of reflection from the water & that might be the solution to my viewing problems.
Love, you guys video's, I am planning to buy a Phantom 3, and trying to find out, does it support FPV Goggles? I all have a Yuneec Q500 and was disappointed that doesn't. And I don't want to make the mistake twice. Thanks.
Your controller isn't like mine. I don't have GPS mode switch, record button, RTH button, or other buttons like that. But it came in the Phantom 3 Standard box I just bought. Oh, boy, down the rabbit hole we go.
please reply I sub and like and added this to my favorite playlist but when u calibrated it on the compass does it come back to ur when u lose it if not can u do a tutorial of that please
I just received my phantom 3 4k. When I sign up on the app DJI go, what do I set it up on. All I see is professional, advanced, standard and SE? Thanks
Great info thank you... i just got this drone yesterday, my retired videographer father in law sent me it since he was no longer using it... i wonder if you could answer this question... will polar pro filters for the pro 4 fit this camera? I see conflicting info, some filters specify ‘pro 4 only’ and others say ‘either pro 3 or 4’... which nd filter is the one you use here in this video?
Just a mute point but you have called it a Phantom 3, then a Drone and finally a Helicopter, think if you just called it one would be better for the Novice. I would recommend UAV.
+Paul Thomas Hi Paul, Thanks for the feedback. Yeah there are many names that these "flying machines" are known by =) Drones being the most common and UAV and/or sUAS probably being the most precise.
I do not think that you want to select sunny in a sunny day, it does not represent that way. The sunny mode on white balance is a filter that makes everything like it is sunny even it is not. If you select sunny as your white mode on a sunny day it will double the bright sun yellow light and make it more like it's too hot outside lols..
does the phantom 3 standard have 2 different controllers ive seen 2 different ones used in tutorials and will a ipad mini 2 fit in the device holder and why did you use a cable to connect the ipad to the controller
From the video it appears that a person can open the box, remove the drone, calibrate the compass, and fly... WRONG ! What about charging the batteries? What about downloading and installing the app? Registering the drone with DJI? Downloading and installing the firmware from DJI? About calibrating the I.M.U.? Checking the settings to make sure the "return to home" if transmitter signal is lost is sent to return the drone, not hover or land where it is?
+TECH REVIEWS NORTH EAST/UK I'm using the Anker 1ft lightning cable. Coiling a longer cable also works well. Check out my buddy Mitch's video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--NBvcUmrNF0.html
@super drones: I am buying a phantom 3 standard and it keeos asking to calibrate the compass, I tried in two spots, away from everything, outdoors.... getting frustrated - any idea how to fix this ?
I do not have a phantom but something which does a great job as well, some say maybe as as phantom 2 in terms of filming and stability ''UpAir Chase''. I got much out of watching this video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Now just need a new gimbal because mine was a defect. Getting a new improved gimbal for free.
+DRONEDIRECTOR Thank you! The Phantom 2's with either the H3-3D or H3-4D gimbals and a GoPro HERO3/4 are great little quads. However, once you fly a Phantom 3 with the 94º degree rectilinear lens (flat horizon), see the HD live feed on the GO (formerly Pilot) app, it is hard to go back.
