I know it isn't demonstrated in this Album, but I love how the music blends together in game, like how Hope becomes much more intense when you activate overdrive or when it smoothly transitions to The Trail when you move to the fabrication bay. I have not seen many games pull off a soundscape that feels like one connected story, being told through the music. Seriously impressive work
The entire OST is fantastic but 'The Trail' is my jam. Never before has overworld travel/background music got me feeling like I can fight the entire world! XD
Fantastic ost perfectly adapted to the game. The transition when you prepared everything right and play the turn while the music start blasting in an incredible transition is something I will always remember.
I was getting cocky by my 3rd province. Attacking a spec ops base I stumbled into getting pincered by 2 reinforcement groups. What I thought would be a 20 minute fight turned into 3 hours. My 3 mechs desperately weaving and slugging it out with 15 enemies (13 of them mechs). It was a harrowing experience. By the end, the landscape, weather, and music had all shifted to apocalyptically grim as I barely eked out a pyrrhic victory. The emotional highs and lows of that stuck with me. For hours after, and on waking up the next day the music from the game was replaying in my head tied to that incredible experience.
I love this whole soundtrack, and the way it changes depending on how you are doing. I remember one of the songs, probably "Play the odds" or "Pushing Through" playing for the first time when I got caught by an elite patrol, right after I lost my heavy shielder "Wallhammer", fighting 3v8 while there were reinforcements... I was genuinely mortified and thought it was going to be the end... I don't even know how I won, desperately dancing between all the enemies with quick mechs, and somehow dodging their attacks But "Hope" is probably my favourite, especially when it plays right after liberation (I think then it even has an additional fanfare at the start too?) it's very cathartic
Fantastic music, its not just the consistent feel, but how it all blends together and chains. I usually turn music off, since I am a sucker for natural ambiance, but in this case, it enhances the game experience a lot! I am putting this OST on hidden gems shelf along with Jose Pavli’s Project Wingman OST.
Riley we are making a game about intelligent machines, I listen to your music from the game "Phantom brigade" every day when I draw models, and I want to say that it is very inspiring. Now I can tell you exactly which OST are inspiring. Rather, it will be easier to list those that you didn't like very much. Just bought the game this christmas and played 19 hours straight. 3 hours in i was in a tough spot and had just gone through making a perfect strat, i execute AND THE CLIMAX OF PUSHING THROUGH BLASTS AS THE PLAN GOES THROUGH! In a single turn i turned the tides from defeat to victory! While the game lacks substance so far the way gameplay ahs been handled is just perfect! Thank you for this perfect OST!
This will be on my next Bandcamp Friday purchase. The developers also brought out a lot of the songs through the game contexts, so if there's instrumentation variants like that was used in the game, I would also love to take a listen there.
Hello, I really like this soundtrack. It's both the anticipation when you're planning your move and release when you get that burst of action, great stuff (also the transition between the two states are very smooth, nice work). My one critique is not from the songs themselves but the timing in which they are played. For example, I've noticed that "Surge" starts playing when the player is winning (so generally at the end of a scenario) and "Pushing Through" plays when the player is out-numbered (and likewise at the start of a scenario). The problem is that it becomes very formulaic and predictable when these songs play after hours of gameplay (I can already feel like only 35hrs in). The impact is lessened over time, and we most certainly do not want that. So...perhaps the solution is just more suspenseful/bombastic tracks, or a more cost efficient idea is that you can tweak the condition in which songs are played. For example instead of a binary winning/losing condition, you would make it so "Surge" only plays in specific conditions, like after dealing lots of damage in a single turn, killing multiple enemy units, etc. The opposite can also be true, "Pushing Through" would only play when you're in a really dire situation, like receiving a lot of damage, or losing units. In my opinion, it would make these songs more impactful and memorable. If you decide to go for more tracks (which would be great either way honestly), perhaps we can get a track for when you call home guard....? Right now calling them in doesn't feel very special, and the game is already lore dry as is, so it would add some much needed flavour.
Thanks so much for the kind words! And great idea about different tracks for more unique situations. You pretty much nailed the implementation we are currently using. It's gone through a few different phases but what was ultimately decided was to have different groups of tracks randomly play for when you're at an advantage, when you're evenvly matched, and when you're at a disadvantage. I think overall it's pretty effective but for longer play throughs (35+ hours is great!) I can understand the music fatigue. Hopefully there's more opportunity to add more tracks and even more variety in the future! Thanks again for your support 😀
I wish there was a toggle to switch to the unmuted version. You only get to hear the epic full track kick in for the brief moments of combat between setups. I completely understand why it’s that way though
😂 I think it might get pretty tiring listening to the 'execute' versions on repeat! But if you want to listen to the 'execute' versions for longer, watch the battle in slow-mo!

The names of 01 and 02 are switched in the video compared to the description. Great OST though, I probably like the back third the most once is gets back to being more chill.
