Phantom Comparison - Floating, Falling

A comparison of various Phantoms doing the iconic pose of 'Music of the Night', and the line, "Floating, falling, sweet intoxication..."
A mislabeling - the 2004 one of Peter Lockyer and Sarah Lawrence is actually of Tim Martin Gleason. Sorry about that!

36:08 wow! Earl Carpenter's take on this scene is unlike any Phantom! Very different, but beautiful. And then in the very next snippet with the same actress (Rachel Barrell) Matthew Cammelle's (don't know anything about him)acting couldn't be more blah. Not an ounce of sensuality or romance, then he YANKS her arm. Ha! So interesting seeing ALLL these different Phantoms in this iconic moment of the show. Thank you for posting!!! Just love this!

My favs: 23:32 JOJ love how he caresses her neck and how he lets her touch him 2:00 Michael Crawford I like how he caressed her so sensually, I dislike Christine's acting tho 30:57 Peter Lockyer love how he nibbled her ear 36:00 Earl Carpenter had a peculiar take with the cheek caressing and sounded very realistic when he said "touch me" most actors sounds like they following a choreo (I know they do but it's beautiful when it sounds realistic) 37:05 Gary Mauer Elizabeth Southard he sounded sexy and I like her reaction when she touches the mask, funny they were already married at the time! 37:50 John Cudia Jennifer Hope Willis I usually dont like when Christines reaches so fast but she instilled curiosity in her Christine and allowed her to wonderfully react to the touch

This video is amazing and I feel bad even bringing this up but at 28:25 is Tim Martin Gleason not Peter Lockyer to my knowledge. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. You are soo awesome for making these videos. What an undertaking! Great work!

@@Q92089 Did you mean 30:25? Because 28:25 is not either of those but Brad Little. Anyway, you're right that the video is of Peter Lockyer. I can't correct the video, but I edited the timestamp's info so it's correct on there at least.

I wish that every Phantoms would let Christine touch them. Though I know that the Phantom's new with this thing, like somebody touching him so he's a bit sensitive about it. Great video, as always! Thanks for making it.

I like the juxtaposition between Panaro's Phantom so confidently inviting her to touch him and then acting so awed when he's allowed to hold her hand. It's oddly sweet in a way. And then Carpenter's Phantom getting almost overwhelmed by her presence and having to pull himself back is *chef's kiss.*

I found Charlotte Page's reaction when she touched the mask interesting and not often done with other Christines... 20:21 I also find it interesting that Ramin and a few others had a "knee-jerk" reaction when Christine touched the mask, like they were afraid of her taking it off, but the majority of the others don't have that reaction, like letting her stroke it and then continue with the song.
@PrismsofGlass
@PrismsofGlass 5 лет назад
For the reaction to the mask, that's partially because of the blocking. The London production doesn't have Christine touch the mask, which is why their Phantoms will often jerk back and grab Christine before she can touch it; Broadway and other productions do let her touch it.

I saw Scott Davies as the Phantom in London last week - hadn't really heard too much about him, but he really did pull out a very moving and believable performance that night. His take on this was to actually move his cheek and mouth along Christine's neck as he said "sweet intoxication". I think it only added to the intensity of the moment, however the microphone became a little bit distorted since it was pressed between his skin and hers, haha. I reckon the Phantom might have taken a chance like that... He was also pretty handsy, haha.

I saw James Barbour play the Phantom a couple months ago in New York City when I went to see the musical. Scott Davies was also in it playing the Jeweler.
@PrismsofGlass
@PrismsofGlass 8 лет назад
That's impossible - James Barbour plays the Phantom in New York City, while Scott Davies is standby Phantom in London. They would not be in the same production together. Nor would Davies be the jeweler - he's the standby Phantom, not an understudy or ensemble member. On Broadway, the jeweler is played by Nathan Patrick Morgan.

Admittedly this was before 25th Anniversary film. I can see some Ramin Karimloo's style in the clip that was shown and it was more refined by the time the 25th Anniversary filming was done, because I don't recall him being that rough with Sierra Bogess.

Ramin improved massively by the 25th, I don't think he would enjoy that popularity if based on his London run alone.

Brad Little was the second Phantom I saw when I was 12! Ted Keegan was my first and Gary Mauer was the third and final Phantom I saw! I remember seeing Ted play the Phantom when I lived in Florida and I went to see it with my mom, dad, aunt and uncle! He was an awesome Phantom! I even had the opportunity to see him again as the Phantom when I was 12 but the cast replaced him with Brad Little! All three were amazing Phantoms! I've always dreamed of seeing The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway!

@@justess797 I like Ramin Karimloo as the phantom but his behavior throughout the show was so angry and aggressive and angsty throughout the whole show that there was no mystery or wonder. He never was restrained or mysterious enough to seem like a phantom in my opinion. He still gives a powerful performance but it’s just lacking in mystery and nuance, in my opinion so that the final lair isn’t the end of illusion and a rude awakening for Christine but just oh Christine finally calls the Phantom out for being terrible.
