And this scene alone is one of the reasons the stage show will forever be superior to the movie. She isn't supposed to know it's the Phantom the whole time damnit. It completely changes the dynamics of the scene. Oh, and I love JOJ haha.
This guy both keeps my obsession alive and makes me sad that he no longer performs...but that was funny she didn't relize. Also wow he's fast!, no Phantom runs away so quick you didn't even see his face...just a quick blurr. Still he's awsome and I love him as a phantom and actor/singer. AngelG
John Owen-Jones certainly does a steamy version of PONR doesn't he? Actually, I've noticed that in the British versions I've seen Christine gets up because he touches her but in the American version Christine gets up after the Phantom turns away from her without touching her. In any case, I like the little grab. :) John really has a very nice smooth voice.
My favorite stage PoNR of all those I've seen. Just totally wonderful acting and chemistry. And a huge plus that when she realized it's not the actual actor under there, she didn't try to escape multiple times / he wouldn't let her. Those versions where she acts like a scared chicken are rather annoying. This one has intense an intelligent atmosphere through and through.
*swoon* I've only seen the movie version of Phantom, but now I know that I definitely need to see the stage version. My eyes almost teared up at the end...
Hahaha. I love JoJ! And... god, he's just the best screamer. XD He's screams great! He may overdo it once in a while, but that scream... *heehee* Wonderful vid, as always John is beautiful... his voice is so stunning... ~A~
Wooow! There's no way the film version of PONR compares with this, it's so much more seductive! It's made me want to watch the musical again! Thanx for posting it! P.S I'm doing a remake of the PONR scene, only I've not been able to find a downloadable version to complete it. So do you know where I could download it, or could you perhaps send it to me please? Thanx!
I always thought Phantom spiked the goblet with a drug to weaken her defenses. This was the night he intended to abduct her for good and force her to marry him. In the next scene, they're in the lair and she's wearing the wedding dress. If ALW wanted them to have had sex in the Love Never Dies sequel, this would have been when it could have happened, she never would have gone back later on her own. That destroyed the characters' integrity.
::happy sigh:: I am ever so sad that I never saw them together...I saw Earl/Rachel last summer...They were brilliant too...Celia/JOJ are just as fabulous, and I've always adored listening to clips of JOJ. His PONR is REALLY good, and I'm just so happy that now I can match movements to voices... And thank God for Celia! Not as much vibrato = MUCH better song. :)
How I wish there was a video of him with Katie Hall in poto at Majesty's, they are the best pairing ever. The bootlegger jerks refused to film JOJ's later runs. Infuriating.
I have to agree with PhantomofDB. You can clarly see it is the Phantom with not much covering his face except his mask. Its a wonder how everyone in the audience was surprised when he was unmasked. Yet he didn`t even react much until the police wnet to him.
well personally i think she is the best christine ever. But if i couldnt have sarah playing her, Rachell Barrell would be my next choice (maybe Sandra Joseph or Julia Hanson).
