A truly sad moment and one I really wished to cover! The relationship between Pollux and Dantioch is truly fantastic, for two who should otherwise be such bitter rivals.
I hope this does their emotional connection and the passing of a hero some justice!

Dantioch and Pollux story reflects so many things at the same time, The potential of the Iron Warriors loyalist nature, What could have been between Dorn and Perturabo, It also showcases another huge bastion of Robute's humanity. him being in deference of Dantioch praising him and asking him to be the one to send his best friend to his rest. It's so nice to see these demigods so beyond human be so very human at the end.

It has always been the greatest irony of fate that the primarchs, sons of the Emperor who were born as his tool of conquest, were raised as humans. While the children of humanity who were born as humans, were raised to be the tools of His imperium

I like to think Pollux was the one who begged Guilliman to form the Silver Skulls chapter. To give the remnants of Dantioch's warriors a chance to prove that just as some marines of the loyalists were capable treachery, that some sons of traitors could still serve with honor.

A part of me honestly wished that their Gene seeds were saved by the loyalist Chapters they served with I'm aware that mixing geneseeds between Primarch lineages is extremely frowned upon, but they could have at least thought of a way to preserve the legacy of the Loyalists who hail from the Traitor Legions

What I love most is that Guilliman personally attended the funeral, like, I’m 100% certain there were more important strategic or political matters to attend to, nobody would’ve been upset he didn’t attend, but nevertheless he makes time for Dantioch, a traitor to the traitors, the last known loyalist Iron Warrior, and he further recognises him as a hero of the Imperium, and then instead of assuming the lead, he offers it to the fallen’s closest friend and last true brother before gracefully accepting the task at said friends behest to do honour to the fallen It’s moments like these that really humanise the Primarchs, and this moment in particular made me love Guilliman as a character

Its quite telling too that Pollux called Guilliman "the mightiest of the Emperor's sons". Im not sure if it was Guy Haley getting caught up in the emotion of the moment, or Pollux himself, but Pollux is of the 7th, and the fact he names Guilliman, not Dorn, the Mightiest primarch, is quite the compliment.

I always liked Guilliman, even through the worst of the Ultrasmurf era memes, at worst he was a loyal primarch and a competent general/administrator which was still top tier considering his peers. But after reading the Dark Imperium books as well as some of his Heresy stuff i have a completely new perspective. He truly is one of the greatest primarchs, and few objectively good people in 40k. He is not perfect, especially since he tends to come up worse when fighting his brothers, but aside from his superb tactical, strategic, logistical and administrative abilities which are fare more important than sword skill (which he has plenty to spare), his humanity is astounding. Empathy, compassion, resolve, will, understanding, openmindedness, sacrifice, duty, humility, love and yes, courage and honor, he has these in spades. His traitorous brothers love to point out that he had it easy and good and that he has no place to speak of such things, but what does Guilliman do when his worlds burn? When all that he has loved and sacrificed and, yes, killed for comes crashing down? When he is killed and awakens in a horrificaly twisted parody of his life's dream? When his father reveals he views him as a tool (this is shown to be misremembered, but at the time he believed it to be true)? Does he give up? Fall to Chaos? Despair? NO! He grits his teeth, sets his jaw and gets to work, relighting the embers of his and his father's dying dream one spark at a time. Proving his brothers wrong once and for all. Courage? Gulliman died for humanity TWICE. An immortal demigod willingly giving his live for those all of his critiquing brothers consider their far lessers. Gulliman knows EVERYTHING about courage. Honor? Gulliman gives his all to serve humanity, even when he must watch the horrific violation of all his values daily, even while he believed his father never cared for him. Gulliman knows EVERYTHING about honor. I truly, honestly belive that when the Emperor said that Guilliman was his pride and his greatest triumph (something people quoting that conversation never mention), it was the one thing the REAL Emperor meant. Because Bobby is living up to his father's standards every second. Sorry for the rant.

Iron may bend and not break, but to manipulate properly, you must use fire, oil, and water. A strong anvil and hammer to mold it/ grindstone to sharpen it. But at the end of it all, one must care. To must great and terrible weapons and armor, one MUST care. About the terrible foe they face and the faces of those that they care for. Through the flames of war, whether gentle or terrible, one must be iron within and iron without.

The story of Dantioch alwalys brings me to tears. He was loyal beyond doubt, enduring beyond reason and true to his cause. I hope that Polux could one day look upon the stars and say, "Barabas, this is our legacy.".

Past the last few stray stars plying their lonely track through the cold night, past the dead worlds and the fragments of galactic collisions billions of years gone, past the probes sent out by extinct races recorded in no history... past all that and beyond, there was a night sea studded with the diamond islands of distant, lonely galaxies. Thank you, this was a delight to read in this book. The Pharos destroyed. Tyranids made aware of the Milky Way (mass effect style) The most Badass Iron warrior dies, and his Big handed boy with a girl's name is really sad.

In my opinion, all that was needed to get the yellow and black legions together, blood games but building the imperial palace can you imagine the impossibility of breaking into that place made by both "Stonehenge" and "Woe is Me"

The strength of the Crimson Fists chapter made real in the respect and love of two legionnaires made brothers in the struggle against the worst of the universe. The first crimson fist learned the power of that care from an Iron warrior; awesome, just awesome.

This is the lesson comparing the Imperium of the Horus Heresy era to the Imperium of 40k teaches us: self sacrifice to save people is admirable in the short term , but in the long term the loss of those rare few who possess both compassion for the common man and the power needed to actually protect them diminishes mankind’s hope for a brighter future .
