It´s really nice to have you back ! I am really sorry to hear about your stress :( I think it is more common than not that PhD students have such phases, especially by the end of the PhD. I recommend a lot o meditation and yoga. So amazing you went on a conference in Brazil. Did you learn any portuguese? ^^ The conference bag is so beautiful btw. Good luck with wrapping everything up!

Indeed, the PhD is not for the feint of heart! Thanks for the suggestion - I meditate pretty much every day haha and get in as much yoga as possible. Aren't you also finishing up your PhD soon? Nope - no Portuguese! It was a very different language than what I'm used to - I've been more associated with the Germanic languages so trying to understand it or speak it was very difficult for me. Thanks - good luck to you too!

Hi, Chantel! I’m from Brazil and was at Sharks International too and I wish I had known your channel earlier when we were there and talked with you. I’m getting to know your channel, because of Maria’s indication (Sea&Me). Keep up with the good work and I hope to meet you in another conference.

You are so amazing, inspiring and you are also very pretty. Your knowledge fascinates me and I am very intrigued to continue watching. I am looking to become a marine biologist like you and spending time in the field seems super fun. I also want to travel the world when I am older and see amazing new places. I am only in middle school so you are a great role model for me to achieve my goal of becoming a marine biologist.

Would you be able to make a video about traveling as a marine biologist/ PhD student? And how you apply for funding and things like that

hi, i'm alize !! I have been watching all of your videos, as well as other marine biologists, and it's really been fueling my desire to become a marine biologist. I had never thought of it before, until I watched an oceanic docuseries and I saw how bad we as a species are treating our ocean. with all these endangered animals, I wanted to help, and that's how I stumbled across being a marine biologist !! I have always loved the ocean and I have always been fascinated by it's beauty and everything in it. I know you study sting rays, but I am having trouble deciding what I should study :( do you have any tips ? and also can we study more than one species or group of marine animals ? (ex: sea turtles and cephalopods, or cephalopods and cetaceans)

Hi Alize! Thanks for your comment. I would suggest waiting until university before deciding what you would like to study - only after my fourth year at university did I decide I wanted to pursue research on stingrays. There is no rush :) Also - as you go throughout your career you can change research interests, you don't have to be stuck studying the same thing forever. So yes, you will be able to study multiple groups of animals if you choose. A lot of biologists study multiple organisms.
