you know what people seem to forget just how great phil collins has been, he was and still is an amazing performer with great stage presence, i just don't think he ever gets the credit he deserves. phil rocks
Totally agree, he is such an amazing vocalist, anyone that loves to sing notices how dificult is to sing like him. And, as everyone knows, one of the best drummers ever.
It's kind of sad in a way, that 99% of people will know Phil from his soft rock 80s stuff, instead of being one of the great prog and rock drummers and vocalists of all time.
What beautiful, beautiful music, it's almost transcendental. Genesis have been with me for almost 40 years now, I feel privileged & blessed that their music came into my life & truly sorry & depressed for those who through ignorance or choice miss out on what I consider to be the greatest British band of all time.
Deep Heat Greatest band ever, of the whole world. I was born in the 80's so I wasn't supposed to love them. I was 15 years old when listened to that old medley live thanks to my uncle. Still my favourite band. No one like them. Greetings from Spain!
Danylle Mohr That was extremely good of you. I am going through a similar situation with my Mother, who hasn't lots of time left, and is very ill. We're indigent, but, if I am fortunate enough to provide proper arrangements, this song will be kept in mime as well. I'm tearful in reading this, and hope that this finds you well.
Amazing really. Lost a great singer and the guy that plays the drums happens to be Phil Collins :) Not only a great singer but he has charisma as well. Not many bands could look behind them and find a guy like that - they got lucky.
I have loved this song since it came out, I was 16 and I just cried hearing it. Only great works of art really hit me hard. This is a great work of art thank you Tony Banks and all of Genesis. Yes, girls loved your music too.
You are so right.. Brings me to tears. I still remember a new years party in my basement (1985) me and all my underage friends, drunk and watching this on a VHS (yes VHS) cassette. Standing in front of the television screaming this song. Watching Phil and Chester play together brings back GREAT memories.... thank you for posting
Saw this tour at Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ. Second row, slightly stage right. Never forget, can't believe it been 44 years right about now. June or July, have to dig out the stub. Phil is great, among the great rocks drummers no doubt, amazing vocalist and general around one in a bunch of generations performer. The music he performed, created over decades, will be played until the electricity goes away.
I love so many Genesis songs, most every one. But, Afterglow has always been one of my top favorites, from the time it came out. Wind and Wuthering is definitely my favorite Genesis album too. And I have personally played Afterglow in my own shows for many years. I love doing it for people who only are aware of the more mainstream, hit Genesis songs, to turn them on to a real Genesis classic!
Wow... I also saw Genesis a little over 2 years ago with a very close friend who died shortly after. My bud Steve was no longer able to cope with life, addiction and depression. He and I both loved this song.... I miss him. sorry for your loss....
"But now, now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one" I'm a grown man for crying out loud but these lyrics and the emotion in Phil's performance almost reduces me to tears.
kills me every time, yet I always come back for more....there is no song that takes me thru it like this one, I hope like hell they play it at my funeral.
I saw them at PPG in Pittsburgh on December 13th. I don't know the words to express how great they were. Phil is still incredible. I was amazed. Most awesome concert ever
I don't think there's one shot of Mike or Tony in here...Mike's bass playing at the end is stellar. Tony's orchestration makes the song. "Phil Phil Phil" everyone always cries, he'd have been nothing without them.
This always reminds me of "Something" by The Beatles. Slow, melodic, catchy, and emotional, with lyrics that are simultaneously personal and universal. A perfect pop song
I remember this tour like it was yesterday. Music that was scored into my brain for a lifetime. If you don't believe this was incredible live, just listen to the crowd response at the end. Not a soul there missed how important this music was.
If you could retire a song this would be it; no one else should ever be allowed to sing Afterglow for no could put their heart and soul into this song as he does. This song belongs to Phil Collins.
Los empecé a seguir desde el album Genesis (Mama). Los vi en París el año pasado. Ahora tengo toda su discografía, pero como decía previamente disfruto más los años previos a su mayor éxito comercial
Like the dust that settles all around me, I must find a new home. The ways and holes that used to give me shelter, Are all as one to me now. But I, I would search everywhere Just to hear your call, And walk upon stranger roads than this one In a world I used to know before. I miss you more. Than the sun reflecting off my pillow, Bringing the warmth of new life. And the sounds that echoed all around me, I caught a glimpse of in the night. But now, now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one. And I would search everywhere Just to hear your call, And walk upon stranger roads than this one In a world I used to know before. For now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, I miss you more.
Their level of performance here, is at a great peak. They were all still improvising & playing with such power & soul, including, of course, 28-yr-old Phil Collins’ unmatchable voice & character!
GENESIS ... will be always in my heart , that s my feeling, Music can t generated a war, if Peter, if Collins, if Hackett , Banks or Rutherford, they all are GENESIS, one by one self is only a man, GENESIS is the GREATES BAND ... and with Phil is THE BAND... we thanks god for having Genesis after Peter left the band,,, thanks Phil , we love you and GENESIS !
thre are several songs from the post Gabriel era... this is one of the best but ... Love Genesis still is a beautifull and real expresion to join with all us... Genesis fans in all "eras"... Wind and Wuthering 1976 ... what a marveluos album!
Saw them in concert last Saturday in Charlotte, NC. Phil's health might be so-so, but man he still has the vocal chops. Loved every second of it as much as I loved my first Genesis concert in 1983!
Having followed and seen Genesis since those early days, I have to say that for me, they are better with Collins than Gabriel. This tour was brilliant. I went to the London concert. and saw a great band at the height of their powers, with a genius on the drums (vocals). If Gabriel hadn't left, we would have missed the flowering of his solo career. He remains a musical master. Imagine a world without 'In Your Eyes'
!980 was the year I first saw Genesis live and the last. Saw them at the Great Western Forum they blew me away and I've been a fan ever since. Never got to see Peter Gabriel and Genesis. One of my lifes regrets.

Amongst their long list of show stoppers, I would consider this to be the absolute best song to end a medley\concert and I couldn't think of a better way to conclude Wind & Wuthering, one of my all time favorite albums. Thank you for this....
this song is not just a song for me , is actually the energy that hold the together for ever in that frame. A a time in my life when everything was like magic and i felt like i was walking on air and me and my lover soul will live in in that frame again until the time when all things will pass and only love will love forever .
This tour was the 1st time I saw them live...their light show and live performance was one of the greatest I've ever witnessed and I've seen 1000's of performances!
This song sounded great in Finland. Afterglow was played in a medley with In the Cage. Encores were I can't Dance and suprise, Carpet Crawlers. I saw them already. 2.5h show. Great light-show, but no one saw it, because nights in Finland aren't dark. Sun shined through the concert.
