Man is a legend. Unmistakable signature drum style and sound. I'm a guitar player and own a Beat Buddy drum machine and it has a Phil Collins kit loaded in it.

Love Phil, and seeing this has made me a bit sad because of his health issues now . Can’t believe how in a few years he gone from looking like this with massive biceps to how he is today. I hope he’s doing ok anyway. He’s a fantastic drummer/musician who I’ll always love and respect ✊

Another great interview. My intro to Genesis was Seconds Out and And Then...so i had to go back to the Gabriel era. I prefer Phil's versions as much as i like Gabriel's work. Is there a part 2 ? Often think his work with John Martyn gets overlooked. Drumming and his background vocals, their voices work so well together.

How come this video has such sporadic availability ? It feels like PC has all his walls down, not just with is answers, but his mannerisms.... the little tics & behaviors that are only done away from public view. I love seeing him that way. God bless Phill Collins forever. 🙏 But I'm so glad it's here now!! Thank you

Nursery crime is when the rubber started hitting the road with Genesis. They were more solid with that lineup then before.

Great interview outside of the fact that Eddington completely skips over Steve Hackett's contributions and subsequent exit from the band. Drives me crazy how little credit Hackett consistently gets as a member of Genesis.

Interviewer: "(after punk) you managed to steer the band towards songs that were "..." more melodic and had some emotion in them". Really? I guess he meant "making the music more repetitive and easy to digest, and the lyrics more about relationships between man and woman". Because music can't possibly be more melodic and emotional than 70's era Genesis ... Sorry, John Edginton, you did a fine job, but that question needed to be rephrased ;-)
@JOHNEDGINTONDOCUMENTARIES
@JOHNEDGINTONDOCUMENTARIES Месяц назад
Thanks Anders for your comment. Do I agree with you ? Perhaps more now than I did then in Jan 2014. I agree that 70s works like Suppers Ready and Musical Box are certainly full of emotion. Some of Phil’s stuff has a more personal kind of emotion. Tony Banks has also said that btw
@greg-warsaw4708
@greg-warsaw4708 18 дней назад
In fact, try to find more emotional songs that Mad Man Mood, Ripples, Your Own Special Way or Say It's Alright Joe - all originating from before the period in question. Then, I think it's a popular wrong belief that it was Phil who single-handedly steered the band towards simpler stuff. I am convinced all three acted in agreement on that.

Bill Burford in Asia?
@anderslundquist3776
@anderslundquist3776 Месяц назад
That wasn't the only incorrect comment in the sentence. He also said "this was before King Crimson". Bruford had already made three studio albums with King Crimson, after which they'd broken up (only to be reformed in 1981).
@anderslundquist3776
@anderslundquist3776 Месяц назад
To be fair, Phil later questions whether Bill was in Asia, and says "forget that - he was in UK" - which is true. As we all know, it was his colleague in UK, John Wetton, who went on to form Asia.

Steve Hackett, a stiff player ? Not Intuitive ? There must be something personal …
@joaopedrocavalcantipinto9436
@joaopedrocavalcantipinto9436 Месяц назад
I think I get what he is saying. Keep in mind that phil, in the 70s, was very much into fusion, jazz and more “loosen” styles of playing. Hacket was pretty much a (brilliant) composer. He was absolutely commited to play for the song, and his guitar work is not flashy or “relaxed”. Hacket guitar is, in someways, more straightfoward and that was different from the more freestyle phil was more into in said period. Both musicians are, regardless, genius.
@roddlecoddle
@roddlecoddle Месяц назад
Definitely nothing personal. I know exactly what he means. Hackett was very Frippian in his playing, drummers intuitively want some groove to play along to and feel. Steve isn't groovy like that.
@trevizons
@trevizons Месяц назад
But Guys , what’s the use of saying that towards a fellow Musician, that’s not a positive thing, watch that 1981 interview in NYC with Phil saying He’s ran into Peter several times and He’s ran over Steve … Let’s admit it , Phil has never spoken well about Steve Hackett, there must be something personal … Thanks for your response, Cheers !
@joaopedrocavalcantipinto9436
@joaopedrocavalcantipinto9436 Месяц назад
@@trevizons to be honest, I think none of Genesis members ever spoke hacket very well. Hacket was the only one in the band to really dig into Prog Rock, but to the point of considering simpler and shorter songs uninteresting and poor. Peter, Phil, Mike and Tony were pretty happy writing more concise and direct songs, as they all eventually did later in their careers.
@roddlecoddle
@roddlecoddle Месяц назад
@@trevizons I've only seen and heard Phil say good things about Steve on a personal level and they get along, but they are very different and I've heard him use the "stiff" analogy a few times and he is correct. Tony, Mike and Phil are the natural players and songwriters, it comes more naturally to them. Steve is a good player and he fit with 70s Genesis but he's not a natural or a guitar legend.

punk was garbage
@greg-warsaw4708
@greg-warsaw4708 18 дней назад
I regard it as social phenomenon that had its roots and consequences. Musically I am not interested in it at all. But I refuse to respect punk for one reason: atrocious hatred the movement directed at so much great, beautiful, precious music. Punk infected music press and critics to share the same hate. Fantastic musicians like Ant Phillips could not find a contract (apparently Malcolm McLaren personally discouraged labels from signing Ant). Had punk done its basic sounds without hating some greatest musicians, I'd just ignore it, but how it was, I disrespect it.
