Phil talks about on how the drum duets on Genesis work, and how they've evolved. Includes the practice of the famous stool drum duet as played on the last Genesis tour.
2 of the best ever. This will not be seen again and we are lucky to have witnessed. I hope he and Phil are able to mend fences life is short. They did some amazing things together.
People who are not drummers. . Or who don't understand drumming . . . just don't realise that that drum duet - in the minds of the two players - is as distinctive and as memorable as any 'famous' guitar solo, or song line. . . They know and remember and understand EVERY sixteenth note of that ENTIRE duet as easily as you can remember and sing some two or three verses of a song you know. . Brilliant!
I'd love to feel it, just one more time. I know I saw it many, many times and I know it's impossible now, but please just one more time. Please. Oh the joy I got every concert when this bit happened. Ride on brothers in rhythm, ride on. Love you both.
What a valuable recording for The Future. So glad that made the DVD of the Show Prep for their 2007 Tour. Talk about an inside view....and clearly when they are laughing is the best. MASTER CLASS
That's marvellous! We finally get to see Mr Thompson and Mr Collins drumming on this famous padded stool, which Phil Collins talked about so often in his interviews. It's good exercise/ good practice to 'trash out' and highlight any differences. "It's good to be practice perfect ". Two great drummers - you complement and compliment each other. Nice Italian accent there, Phil. Multifaceted and multilingual.
Wow. How can you 'dislike' this? Two drum talents riffing on a footstool like bosses? That's so badass. So glad RU-vid dragged me down this rabbit hole.
Phil Collins and Chester Thompson poetry in motion baby they are the picture of brilliant Phil Collins is a true musical genius his beat will go on forever
You can imagine staying in the room next to where these two are slapping away for hours and thinking...that's it! I'm gonna give that a-hole an earful...only to find out that it's Phil and Chester, possibly the best ever drum duo to grace a stage simultaneously...humbling, would not suffice.
fantastic insight to how they did there duets, I am fortunate to have seen them many times, always enjoyed Phil's drum sound with the open concert toms.
WOW...........!!!!!!! Hypnotic!!! You know I've always preferred Bruford and Collins interactions for their abstract/jazzness. BUT I think I finally get the spirit of Thompson and Collins. This is definitely more drum circle inspired and the call and response is so intense it really sucks you in and keeps you rivoted!! BRAVO!!!
Imagine being in the next room! “ who do they think they are? Phil Collins and Chester Thompson???” So sad that they fell out and hope they are both ok… x
Nah, Spinal Tap would be to have an abolutely HUGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE drumkit for BOTH of them in that tiny room, and then on stage it's a snare, high-hat and kick only by mistake.
SAW THEM PERFORM A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT VERSION LIVE IN 1986 IN OAKLAND CALIFORNIA FOR THE INVISIBLE TOUCH TOUR. IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE! THERE IS A RECORDING OF THEM PERFORMING THE VERSION I'M TALKING ABOUT FROM WEMBLEY STADIUM IN CONCERT. IF YOU CAN FIND THIS VIDEO.... IT'S THE BEST THING YOU WILL EVER HEAR IN YOUR LIFE, AND YOU WILL BE IN RHYTHM HEAVEN!
Happy as a clam! Two amazing percussionists In the practice zone creating new bits. DD. #genesisofficial #philcollinsofficial #rockhall2024 😀☮️❤🎼🥁🥁🔊🎶🎵🤘
Okay so you 12 (!) individuals don't like that? Just try to replicate that only one time in ernest and you will understand what this is all about. Sadly we will never see these two seasoned masters again like that.
