Greetings from Germany, great episode - it's not only an absolute pleasure to see Phil play but also to hear him talk. Great aura, calm and funny in equal measure.
I did 2 days of Phil and April’s camp and it was amazing! Not only are they both great coaches but down to earth and as approachable and open as Phil was in the podcast. Absolutely enjoying hearing all the stories and beach volleyball lifestyle.
I love how everyone understands and loves sports. Not just volleyball. I mean if I were to talk to Tri at bar we probably talk hoops. Speaking of basketball, I guess an important reason why the NBA is so successful is the fact that it is owned by its clubs. Thinking about the prize money discussion, given that there are no club owners like in the NBA in beach volley, the idea of league owned by revenue sharing players sounds intriguing to me. Maybe with a Diamond League (world athletics tour) format like a race to some larger jackpot. Besides, I think AllStar Voting on players would be simple and fun (like 3-4 blockers, 3-4 defenders) and then have a mid season KoTC or a format that forces different partnerships for the AllStar game. keep up the great work gentlemen!
I thought Phil was a good guy judging from his post game interviews, but i wouldnt have thought he was so chill and funny. Makes him more of a legend in my eyes than he already were.
I stood behind Phil once at a coffee shop during the chicago open. i couldnt believe skinny he is. such a dominant force in volleyball. I was sooo starstruck.
What's the book he mentioned? Chop wood carry water? I see a couple of different versions on Amazon and want to make sure I get the same one. On another hand Travis what other books do you or Tri recommend for the mental side of volleyball?
