Phil Donahue, Serena Dank infamous "Parents of Punkers" organizer, and a mom who looks like something out of an Aline Crumb comic, along with several punks, duke it out to find out who and/or what is punk after all. From my beta collection, early 80's. Part 2 of 4

It seems that the people others call "ugly" on the outside are the prettiest inside. The "punk" girls on stage are so articulate, intelligent & their personalities exude beauty. Although I always found the "punk" look very attractive as I was one myself. As a 41-year old Mom of two boys, I teach my children that it's what's inside of a person that truly matters.

I love this mentality some of the adults have, the "I-fed-my-teenager-this-and-watered-them,-but-it- isn't-working,-what-phone-number-do-I-call?" mentality

wow ! this takes me back . I remember the look on my moms face , when at sixteen I came home with a mohawk lol ! I dont know if it was the mohawk or the fact that I'd been gone for three days and hadnt called home , but suddenly mom was talking about family therapy and that maybe I needed a pychiatrist , that she thought there was something wrong with me . but my dad just laughed , he said he's sixteen , thats what they do , they go wild , its his time mom , let him live it . I miss my dad .

I went to college with some punkers. They were nicer to people than a lot of the snobs that made fun of them.

5:25 the guy in retail who let his employee go regarding a punk hairstyle. I had red hair with a big blond streak down the middle and my boss told me "Get rid of the hair or I'll get rid of you." Worked for a lawyer, 1984. LOL

al from ministry = fucking awesome. this whole thing makes me giggle. reminds me of high school in my classes when as a class we would discuss individualism and stuff and I could tell when a teacher was inspired to discuss it because of me bieng there in punk clothes, and the "trendy" and "regular" kids were just like the old people in the audience while my opinions and reactions were the same as these punk rockers. LOL

Some of them ended up changing the world literally. Al up there invented mixing instruments and sampling. Which spawned rap they took his que and ran with it. Some on the other kids ended up in professional fields as well. Punks usually are pretty smart and end up trying to slip into the system instead of through it.

How did NO one have a problem with the caller who fired a perfectly capable employee because of a hairstyle. He hired him that way! Dude should have talked to a lawyer. Even back then, I'd say he has a case.

These punkers would be in the 50's and early 60's by now. It would nice if there could be a follow up to see where they are now.

Haha, when I was in college in Charlottesville in 1988, I tried to get a job in a deli with pink hair that was shaved in the back, and they outright told me they wouldn't hire me cuz of my hair. I'm sure I'd have a discrimination lawsuit if that happened today. Now people can work wherever they want, for the most part, with weird hair, tattoos etc.

These videos are reminding me of why I couldn't stand Phil Donahue's show. It was just so tight-you-know-whatted all the time. A whole lot of people including me were very happy when Oprah came along and ate his lunch. Although she got to be a pain in the neck later on, she and her audience seemed a lot more comfortable and with a more open mind.

Slam dancing was people wanting to get hurt and not hurting others, so when you have every one doing that no one gets hurt. It is when others like the dirt heads, cho lows and the likes tthey can stand up to us that there is violence.

These kinds of punks were rejects. The skinheads were the only people I cared to be around back then, I was a skinhead as well, straightedge, in many ways we were perfectly behaved, worked, we just had a certain world view that was against the established norms and materialism and greed that was the common theme back in the 80's with our corrupt politicians.
