@@andrejchalas6799-Ya...the only slight possibility would be if phil bet small n got dwan to maybe bluff or at least call for a chop on the river, but ya still most likely not getting called.
Checking was literally the only way he could get money here. If he bets, Dwan is folding every time; he's at the absolute bottom of his range and a bluff-raise is just so dangerous when it's too easy for Helmuth to have a 6 or flush, and even if he is playing the board Helmuth might still call in that situation. By checking, Helmuth hopes to show enough weakness to induce the bluff, which he can then go over the top of. It's the right play when you're that far ahead of your opponent.
@@Sam-ul1cg Yes but so many players are just checking this back for a cheap showdown. Why open yourself up to get exploited by a check raise bluff trying to push you off the chop? I understand Dwan is super aggressive and he holds the king of clubs but in general I like betting here with the absolute nuts.
@@Sam-ul1cg yeah a trap to extract the absolute minimum, as is exactly what happened! Dwan a pretty focused customer but I’m surprised he didn’t laugh here after seeing Phil’s hand.
@@russdy1982 Yeah just bet it smh if anything you might level an aggressive player like Dwan in to a call or maybe even a raise since he's got the king of clubs.
@@Duncan_Idaho84 yeah but with Tom's reputation of being ultra aggressive its surprising he didnt try to put a bet on the river. old school Dwan would try to take that pot.
@@ian625 Folding to board chops is a situational kind of thing. Without information on what happened all the way back to pre flop, and your particular opponent, you can't get a right ordering answer. You don't necessarily always want to be folding them.
If you didn't notice it's pointless betting seeing as he is last to act and there's no reason whatsoever to bet here ever. Better hands shove, if bluffs check raise you basically need to fold, check all day. The only reason you'd ever bet here is if you're out of position and trying to get opponent off the chop.
@@easterbunnybrandon1796 it's no pointless, ive seen Dwan bluffing so much that really surprises me his check, that was amazing, really, like he had a six sense telling him not to bluff, cuz Dwan having the K tells him that Helmuth doesnt have the nut flash, i don't really think he ever thought Helmuth could have that hand, but for some reason he didnt go all in with the nut flash draw.
Lmao everybody acting like Phil was getting anything on the river. If Dean has anything at all he’s betting here and if he doesn’t he might bluff. Practically any bet from Phil and Dean folds anyway
just so you know #'s in the title don't do anything to help your video. back in the day putting keywords in the description helped in searches but idk if they still do or not... they also don't require a #. hope this helps.
I’d rather see a small blocker bet to try and induce by Phil on the river. The check just screams “I have a monster” when facing someone as agro as Dwan.
I mean, I would've pushed all in on the river, hoping to look like I"m "stealing" the pot with an obvious straight on the board but checking? Even when Phil wins, he still loses lol
It was a good play by Phil to check to try to induce a bet, but a bluffy sized bet might have looked fishy enough for Tom to call and he might have gotten paid a bit more
Can't really blame Phil for misreading that, and assuming Dwan had something. He was hoping Dwan hit a big hand or was confident that bluffing would take it down. If Phil bets the river he chases out missed draws anyway, so it's a pretty smart trap-attempt.
That check in the end was sick. I can't believe, he checked it. In his situation, I would have doubt a full on bluff by Phil 100 percent. But him semi bluffing is pretty likely and then not trying to represent sth, if your opponent has Ace pair, is impressive. But I don't know, if it works in the long run. I think, the 6k bet was just a little bit too fast by Phil or a live read. But maybe he was just hoping for the flush and wouldn't call in any other situation than a flush happening, Idk.
Is from that period of time where the commentators tried to copy all of the poker lingo? “Sick” “how pure is this spot?” Ok take it easy 2010 Phil laak.
I’ve been playing for a little over 2 years and I’ve actually already had 2 live straight flushes and 1 royal flush online. And that was all within the first year. I’ve been pretty dry for the last year lol
Dumb river check Philly boy. Dwan is almost always checking back here in position. You should have leveled Dwan into calling for a chop thinking you're on the bluff since you're the one out of position.
@@easterbunnybrandon1796 now that I thought about it a little bit more you're maybe right cause great hands would raise(flushes and 6) and weak hands would still probably call because of the straight on the table.
In order to not call any river bet by Hellmuth, Dwan would have to put him on straight flush. Hellmuth always rages at other people's bad plays, but he has been making the same mistakes for a decade or two.
