Dude, she's not "acting" an "over the top accent". That _IS_ how she speaks. I've met her numerous times, all the way back to the early 90'S. She's as real as it gets.

she's been forced to over act it though, she's spoken about it herself, as a woman who's lived in the states for a long time her accent wouldn't be the same all that time. it propels the spicy latina category she's been typecast as

@@mdp6503 I've seen her in other things with a slightly less of an accent, but it's still there. though sometimes accents are not just from the way the people around you talk it can also be the literal formation of the jaw.

That is her real accent. She’s not pretending to have that accent. She’s Columbian and Spanish is her first language.

Julie Bowen (Claire) was super pregnant with twins in this pilot. I think she gave birth within weeks of filming this so she will carry many less pillows and laundry baskets Also Sophia's accent is just her accent. She just talks like that if you see her on talk shows

Just for clarity's sake, the familial relationships goes like this: Jay is the patriarch, he has two kids - Mitch, and Claire. Jay is married to someone much younger and she already came with her kid (Manny). Mitch and Cameron adopted a baby, and Claire and Phil have three kids of their own. They are a "modern" family. And Sofia Vergara naturally speaks that way, you can see it in any of her interviews on the talk shows. She's Colombian, as am I, that's just the accent. I have relatives who "sound" like her.

Julie Bowen who plays Claire was actually pregnant all through this pilot ep, hence why she's always carrying a basket of clothes, hiding behind bags etc

no... that’s Sofia’s accent, they aren’t forcing her account that’s just what she sounds like, she is Colombian and her accent is honestly the cherry on top. her character is obviously very over the top to make it funny for the show but she is as real as it gets, her character is very close to what she is in real life. the actress herself is incredibly funny and “ exotic” but she is the sweetest and realest person

It's funny, "Haley" was actually older than Dillon in this episode in real-life.. she just looks VERY young, is reason she got the job in first place. Now Alex.. ya, she was 11 when this came out.

In fairness, if you watch the bloopers, Sofia's English can be even worse than her character's! I don't know how she managed to go so long without losing her accent but she still sounds the same 🤣 Btw, the guy that plays Luke is a member of MENSA and graduated high school when he was 13 🤣🤣🤣

I really likes the first and maybe five seasons and then I kind of turned out but I can say at least the first four were really really funnyI wouldn't mind seeing some of the earlier seasons again as far as this show goes it's kind of hard to find a good newer comedy I tend to like the older stuff but did like this.

Yes we don’t let our teenage daughters lock themselves in their room with their boyfriends. Same for boys. That’s a no. And I’m a 37 year old Mom with a boy and girl. That won’t be happening in my house. Call me only fashioned.
