If that happens, then Microsoft's next hardware will simply be PC hardware that runs an Xbox emulator for backward compatibility. As a PC gamer, I'll be interested in the Xbox emulator, since I'll be able to buy exclusive OG Xbox games and play them on my PC. I really need the Xbox versions of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II.

Putting this in a way that they’re all going to PS5 is disingenuous. Of course they’ll put some. They have to with Call of Duty and the rest is case by case, which hasn’t been backpedaled.
@@tyjones9864 Right back at you sir. I think you make an excellent point. If I may say so a point I also been saying. It's not strange at all that more of their games will be on PS since they own tones more games now and games that have a long running history of being multiplat. Their not gonna just lock everyting up, for a lot of reasons.
People have been brainwashed into believing that exclusive games (aka excluding other platforms) is a good thing to the point of cheering when some people can't play a certain title. Screw corporations with their fanboys and bring everything everywhere, let people choose.
@@DribbleP You just proved my point, if Sony 1st party games were available on Xbox you could have been able to choose what platform to buy, right now you have no choice on which console to buy if you want to play those games.
I mean, first party exclusives, sure, you do you but the third party exclusivity is just so anti-consumer. Now it's only recently I started watching RU-vid on a daily basis, despite having a rich gaming history (with a little dip for a few years, glad to be back) but wow, fanboyism really ruins a lot of my excitement when it comes to gaming. How people spread misinformation, cherry pick from articles or change facts to fit their narrative, is absolutely crazy. The reason the many scummy practices this industry's victim to is simply due to gamers rather argue amongst each other than stand together against shitty practices, is crazy. Fanboys are no different that those washed up football (soccer) fans that take pride in things they didn't even help achieve.
@@rayder3543 Nobody's been brainwashed. Console exclusives have been around since the first gen systems. Xbox is dropping out of exclusives the same way Sega did. Because they can't afford to not.
Gamepass bringing $300million a month plus they still sell copies on Xbox and PC 🤑 Playstation sales are the icing on the cake. Sonys $300 million on a game and marketing to be lucky to sell 10million and not make any money is actually killing them 🤯
@@lordxboss5700Microsoft is pivoting once again, and it’s not because they’re making so much money on game pass. Their subscriber numbers have stalled out and it’s clear now their only option is trying to sell games on PS5.
I don't understand why people care if Game Pass is profitable... are you guys idiots? Why would you as a consumer care about a company's bottom line? If it's killing them then fine but in the meantime I will enjoy the best subscription service at a very low cost as long as it lasts. That's all I care about as a consumer, hell I even pay less for GP Ultimate than MS charges the US so NO COMPLAINTS from me.
I don't care if PlayStation GaaS stuff comes day one to everything day one. I'm only against single player experiences day one. Heck I wouldn't mind if they publish them on other platforms but only with 2 years delay.
@@flipyapd2321 Phil says a lot of things, but you’re kidding yourself if you think a lot more Xbox games are not coming to PS5. Later this year there will be more.
Phil Spencer is lucky to still be in charge of Xbox if you ask me. He appeared to be doing a decent job at the start, but in the end he’s been useless. To be honest my whole trust and faith in Xbox diminished after that appalling E3 showing with Don Mattrick, I don’t think the brand has ever fully recovered from that shambolic showing back in 2013. I don’t trust them under Spencer now to be honest, and I don’t trust Sony either. This always online and live service model doesn’t sit comfortably with me, and neither does a digital only future either for obvious reasons. Xbox should just focus on making games and not hardware for me, but each to their own.
You know was on the stage with them in 2013? Its not like phil spencer was new, he was right there. Don mattrick was only in charge for 3 years. Started in 2010, but he still delivered games. Ryse, titanfall, killer instinct, forza 5.
the problem is they started buying all those developers way too late to make an impact in the firat two years of series X. but those are the years that matter most
Who in his right mind would pick a platform over another, if one of them has exclusives and the other one doesn't? Without exclusives there is no platform. They are gambling on Game Pass being this irresistible new way of discovering games, but it isn't. People don't consume games the same way they watch movies or listen to music. You stick with one gamestyle you enjoy, because it takes effort to learn controls and gameplay. So, why pay for a monthly subscription, if you end up playing only a hand full of titles? Game Pass should be a supplement. Get rid of Ultimate, and focus on Game Pass Core. Put Online-Multiplayer Games there to keep the entry barrier low, and put some niche games there after they have been on sale so they might get discovered. That's it. All other games should have a physical release and focus on value. That's how Nintendo pulled the industry out of its dump in the 80s, and this is exactly what is needed right now.
I agree some exclusives are needed. Whats netflix without Stranger things. Prime without the Boys etc. Xbox needs to offer something unique to their platform. Is gamepass alone enough? If they keep some exclusives and gamepass together yeh it probably will be. They only need to keep just enough exclusives to match PlayStation (in terms of impact and quality).. which they can with the amount of studios they own. I personally love gamepass and the xbox hardware
Actually incorrect because when there are other games available people tend to try them in gamepass. I can pay £13 a month for gamepass ultimate & with game share that's two series x = £6.50 a month
It makes sense to me and I can see MS doing something Similar to Sony in that they'll release their 'big' Single Player games that sell Hardware and get people in to their 'ecosystem' a year or so later on whatever other Platforms they can/want once those games are not selling 'hardware' or even selling the Game much anymore. Obviously games like Starfield and Indiana Jones are 'exclusive' to Xbox (Console) and even if they do go to PS5 at some point, I expect it would be after those games are not really selling Consoles, Games or Subscriptions anymore. Whist MS may have wanted 'Office' in every home atone point, they've basically put Xbox in every home as Everyone has a mobile or some device they 'could' play Xbox games - even if they have to Stream them over Cloud to play. It maybe not the 'best' way, but it's the most affordable way. With MS releasing their games 'Everywhere' except Playstation/Switch, they only have those Hardware SKU's to 'extract' more money from Sales of their products - unlike Sony who has PC, Xbox, Switch and/or Cloud gamers to try and sell more product to. Having a 'secondary' release window also gives that game another hype/PR cycle too and may well see a boost in sales/subscriptions on their own platform as that 'hype' generates interest again...
hellblade 2 has currently got 231 players now, it is not doing well, starfield is now selling mods now and redfall is dead, there is not many xbox games that are selling consoles, i can see more going ps5 very soon
Is streaming only the most affordable way? Given you don't own anything and are at the mercy of every price hike and lack any ability to waitnfor salesntonget games cheaper.
@gothpunkboy89 yet kids keep saying this yet prices the same? I can pay £13 a month for gamepass ultimate & with game share that's two series x = £6.50 a month for a regular supply of games
@@mikeuk666 And Netflix was the same price for a long time. Now look at it. Unless you have a legally binding agreement from MS that they will never ever ever raise the price forever until the end of time. Saying that prices will never go up on a service is and always will be the most silly thing a person can do. The fact remains they will be 100% dependent on that fee. There can be no buying games second hand for dirt cheap. No sales getting a game 60% off and owning it for life.
The Xbox and Microsoft wank on DF lately has been really disheartening and beyond borderline cringe. It's so funny that in the previous clip about Microsoft releasing the new versions of their console was all about spinning all these different reasons. Why this is what Microsoft wants to do? And this is the obvious Next step because they're focused on X y and Z, the amount of contorting being done by DF to make Microsoft look good in these. These videos is crazy because every single thing Sony does or Playstation announces is all bad spin. There's no good messaging or conversation about anything dealing with Sony ever. No on the bright side messaging On any Sony story, it's always sprinkled with digs and jabs at Sony and their business model and their games or something. The bias on this channel is crazy, I guess I'm the only one that sees it. But hey, c'est la vie! Microsoft can do no wrong even though they're also shutting down studios and they're not moving units and all these games are dropping on game pass but the game pass numbers are not going up but hey Viva on Microsoft
They critiqued the new Xbox consoles! Did you actually listen to the upload? This channel is one of the only unbiased gaming channels, it is just popular echo chamber type content that slams Xbox , most non PS5 owners don't have the same opinion as the rest of the gaming landscape.
Mixing messaging, lies, lack of a clear direction, devaluation of the Xbox hardware and so on. Going third party when you have a console is the shittiest thing to do.
As PS gamers I am happy I don't have to buy Xbox to play games that supposed to be playable as multiplatform games to begin with ( Bethesda games , ABK) . @@DP12321 If Peter Moore had just delayed the launch of the Xbox 360 into Spring 2006, after he was told that many 360 consoles were failing on the line, and given his team a chance to discover the problem and fix it before they started shipping consoles to stores, the Red Ring of Death might've been avoided, and the Xbox 360, I believe, would've sold a lot more consoles. I feel like Microsoft had so many great 360 games that they could've sold 100 million consoles if that RROD didn't trip them up. But Peter Moore wanted to beat Sony so badly (because Peter had to announce the discontinuation of the Dreamcast when he worked at Sega) that he got impatient and just went ahead with the 360 launch knowing full well that a lot of consoles were going to break.
@@G360LIVEI agree with you. When it comes to online gaming, the best era for me was on the Xbox 360. I don’t know what it is, but this current era of gaming online just doesn’t feel the same as it did back then.
The consoles are not the same nor are they exactly like pc, a compareble pc that runs on you tv is 2k+ (if you can build your own pc) vs 400 for the ps5 digital. The ps5 has many features over xbox. Tempest 3d audio(atmos support), kraken file compression, haptic feedback, and restistance in the triggers. A good sdk and tools for devs to deliver(df always mentions the tools when xbox has runs slower, has bugs or stutters). Therefore, the ps5 is not just like pc, but when you have big enough budget, you can use 5x and buy better hardware. Its like saying level 40 character that can overpower any enemy is the same as a highly optimized build of a level 20 character. Effects are the same, but its not the same. How many times is alex depressed about stutters or bad ports. If your console is the lead platform, you won't have that.
@user-fh5oo8rd9m please enlighten us. Which build with: Cpu, cpu cooler, ram, gpu, motherboard, pu, case, and joystick. For under 2k, can run 4k games on your tv?
@user-fh5oo8rd9m tflops is not performance, the a100 has 312 tflops. Cant run games at all. But even then you would still need cpu, cpu cooler, motherboard, nvm, memory, case, controller. Can you do 4k on a tv? Like the ps5 with that gpu.
@user-fh5oo8rd9m once again, lookup the performance of a100 nvidea 312 tflop, then lookup the game performance. Tflops is the theorical maximum compute, that is not a number that works for gaming consoles. That's why ps5 is ahead of another console with more tfops with multiple xbox games, sea of thieves, ghostwire tokyo, hi fi rush. All run better on the lower tfops machine. The 4070 is not build for 4k gaming, and its by itself more then ps5. You still didn't share the rest of the pc, we still need a case, cpu, cpu cooler, nvm, memory, motherboard, controller. You have 1450 left for your build.
Doesn’t really make sense to keep anything exclusive to Xbox if your soul objective is to get your games to the biggest platforms which definitely isn’t Xbox & likely never will be Xbox. And xbox fans can still be Xbox fans whether the games are exclusive to Xbox or not unless your an immature crybaby, lol.
The Strategy is for example bring Gears 6 on Playstation and break off Xbox Tax. Gears is then a good Game because it is on Playstation, everybody love it and than Gears 7 comes to Xbox and PC as an exclusive.
That is absolutely not the strategy. The strategy is to go multiplat in order to sell more software and make more money. Theyve got close to $100 billion in acquisition costs to recoup with a console user base that theyve conditioned to not buy games.
I think it makes a lot of sense to keep the classic Xbox exclusives as exclusives to Xbox and PC, such as Gears of War, Halo, Forza, Fable, and select new IP as exclusives as well, like Starfield. I would say Perfect Dark as a continuation of the HD original and Zero would be exclusive too. But the long running franchises that have released or had success on other consoles like Doom, Wolfenstein, Call of Duty, Fallout, etc can go to all consoles and day one really, they just also go in Gamepass. It also makes sense for smaller titles to do the one year exclusive or honestly just day and date drop them everywhere, games like HiFi Rush, Pentiment, etc, as well as more niche online games that need a larger community like Sea of Thieves, Bleeding Edge, Grounded, and Killer Instinct. These aren't system sellers and having them survive and Stay Around would be better than them going the way of titles that ended way too early because of lack of players like MAG or Starhawk from PS3 (those died way too early and were ahead of their time for consoles).
It's open season and I think it's great! The head of Microsoft wants this, it's happening he even told shareholders as much and you can't lie to shareholders! I have a last gen Xbox and ps5, love them both. Starfield, Indy, Fable, perfect dark, I'll get them all, keep em coming Phil!
If you want to be the biggest publisher but also want some games on your own platform to keep those people happy, that kind of clashes. I think if you want to be the biggest publisher, you need to go full bore and release all games on any system that handles them and forget about an xbox. Anything else would be half assed, but microsoft is known for this if you look at things they do.
No, they're a separate entity. Everyone knows Switch is underpowered af and has no intention to compete. Nintendo exists to make Zelda, Pokémon, Mario, and to take your money, period. It's always been Sony vs MS.
If Sony goes full multiplatform, like Microsoft is in the process of doing, then yes, Nintendo wins the console war. Only the Nintendo haters who want to believe that a console war doesn't exist or that Nintendo is separate from everyone else are clinging to their heartbroken emotions when not wanting to recognize Nintendo as the winner and still champion. ;)
I think Microsoft became the biggest third party publisher by mistake. Xbox thought buying up all this IP would make their platform bigger, but it's actually doing the opposite. Every decision they make pushes people away from Xbox and Game Pass. Now the expectation is for all their games to appear on your platform of choice, so why choose theirs?
Because they will keep a handful of exclusives, just enough to match Sony (in terms of impact and quality), and gamepass. They defs need to offer something unique to their platform so ppl choose it
If you start buying publishers that make 60% and more of their revenue on your competitor, you can't make those games exclusive anymore. Especially not when your own console sales are not so hot.
I've said it for a while now... Xbox is on the path to becoming a software company and leave the console hardware business. Look at what they've been mainly focusing on a lot lately.... GamePass, controllers, and bringing select games to PlayStation, PC, and or Nintendo.
it makes sense, i think its what we're all sort of anticipating. at the end of the day, microsoft is a software company, look at windows... the xbox hardware is already borderline purposeless because of games launching on PC. personally im all for it.
The whole point of a console is to make a few 1st party exclusives to draw people to your platform, then charge 3rd party developers a percentage cut from their sales to publish on your platform. Xbox the actual box is now not a desirable place for players to play, and not a great place for 3rd parties, apart from those who are paid to put their games on gamepass. So Xbox is not making as much money on gamepass, and has lost their cut from 3rd parties. Phil Spencer is not a good money man.
So the xbox is essentially dead? It does seem a bit counterintuitive to profits though. If no one buys an xbox, microsoft will also lose out on the 30% cut they take on third parties. They also have to pay a 30% platform fee on steam
Really feels like it... Microsoft sure seems like they're done with the hardware race, but then why continue to make hardware? They even announced some more hardware variations recently. Hard to tell what their plans are.
@@pixeljauntvr7774thats pretty much a distinction without a difference. Regardless, xbox loses 30% from a sale on another platform assuming that sale wouldve otherwise been on xbox (where they get 100% of a sale).
It'll be interesting to see what the future of Xbox hardware is. Do they just ditch the traditional console model and release 'console-like' PCs instead? Something like the Steam Deck where it's technically a PC, but feels like a console?
they should drop out of console marke entirely. But keep game pass on smartphones and smart TVs Use their massive resources to help other game companies, and still their own devs they own
Theres no point to continuing to make consoles if this is the path Xbox takes. If next gen "xbox" is just an xbox branded gaming PC sold at a profit then that's fine but if its a proprietary device there's literally no point to ever buy it.
Expect almost everything to go multi platform. They are not selling enough games to their own customers, they have to do this. Why is this still being discussed? It is obvious this is going to happen. The data is out there, the numbers are out there. And xbox players should be ecstatic about this. This is how xbox has success. Do you want to keep playing on your machine? Do you want new games to keep coming to your machine or subscription? Then hope to god Sony and Nintendo customers buy up these games by the shitload. For the life of me i dont understand why this is even a hot button issue. Since the inception of gamepass, software sales have plummeted on xbox platforms. In the videogame business, you make your money by selling software, full price software specifically. Always been that way, and gamepass has been around long enough to know it wont change that either. If you like gamepass and playing on xbox platforms, you better hope to god Nintendo and Sony customers buy up these games by the millions otherwise there will be big time changes, possibly to the extent of no longer even being a hardware company anymore
They do not have to do this. Nintendo didn't put Donkey Kong Freeze and Mario Kart 8 on Playstation and Xbox when the WiiU flopped. Its not like its a closed case and there is only one way out. They could just as well double down and buy even more studios and make everything exclusive to have a massive games advantage over PS next gen. With everything going multiplatform, what do they intent to do to make people buy an xbox over a playstation? They are obviously gearing up for some sort of more fundamental business model change. It doesn't seem to follow the "sell system at a loss, recoup on games and accessories" -mechanism we've been used to for the longest time. Surely you also didn't expect them to just keep going the way they have, but just port all their games to playstation, because at that point, why even make your own console anymore? Now the question is: What part of this porting is part of a new strategy and what is because Satya is getting impatient and wants to see some cashflow coming out of the xbox division. Also for example I can't see the closure of Tango as anything other than desperate short term cost cutting, so it seems like the higher ups at Microsoft finally want to get some results, after granting Phil pretty much 10 years and 100+ bn $ in investment capital, to do what he wants.
@@lizardemperorkorbac4281 Nintendo didn't put their games on other platforms because they didn't have to. Their software sells incredibly well. They don't over spend on anything. Their hardware is even sold at a profit. They didn't spend close to 80 billion dollars on publishers they would have to continue to support with even more money afterwards. We all keep looking at this as a 3 trillion dollar company who should just take hit after hit to make us happy, not as what a 3 trillion dollar company is. Xbox wasn't making enough money before all of this, then you add on the Bethesda and Activision deals and now the heads of Microsoft are demanding a R.O.I Because gamepass exists, the majority of their customers will not buy games. Why would they? Xbox has been telling all of us to get it on gamepass instead for YEARS. They conditioned all of us to not buy their software. Why is it a suprise to anyone why we are here now? If gamepass isn't going to deliver the R.O.I Microsoft wants, the only other option is to sell your software elsewhere in hopes people do buy them. Now, they could try and offer gamepass on other platforms, but it would have to be a 1st party, bespoke version of it, because Nintendo and Sony would be stupid to potentially forfeit some 3rd party sales on their own platform. They wouldn't want to have gamepass available on their platforms, it's inevitably going to take away some of their money, so Microsoft would have to make some serious concessions to get that type of deal done. I think this would have happened already if it was possible. I'm looking at all of this objectively. I think these dots are incredibly easy to connect and I haven't seen or heard of anything that would shift my thoughts on any of this. I truly don't understand why this is a controversial thought to have. I also don't understand why anyone is upset about this. If you like your Xbox, you still have it, you still have all your games, you still have your subscription, you aren't losing anything. Even if Xbox suddenly becomes a publisher and bows out of hardware, gamepass isn't going anywhere. They can't walk that back. They have been telling us for years that THEY want their games playable as many places as possible. You will be able to play your games where you want to, I guarantee it
This just prooves the acquisition will help create a monopoly, if Xbox does the right things. Obviously exclusives arent gonna come day 1 on Playstation. Honestly this should've been the first thing you had to say.
@@samson7294First and foremost they need studios that make great games that also sell well. And since releasing first party games day 1 on gamepass isn't profitable enough, they need to diverse. What you're saying here makes no sense whatsover. Currently for Xbox exclusivity isn't really the thing that makes their console sale. And it will never be since they've long ago dipped into the gamepass and pc releases. They'll still get to hold exclusivity for 6-8 months, a year to a game and basically tell playstation users if you want to play our games day 1, get an xbox. And then release a ps version, basically acting as a secondary release and hitting an even bigger market. It's really just a matter of making use of their studios and releasing great games. The Xbox will still be the way to get into their ecosystem. It's really not about outselling. It's about outpublishing.
Or simply a Rog Ally tbh. Like Thats basically a Handheld Xbox Has an native Xbox and Game Pass App with 3 Months gifted and it also plays Playstation Games in Switch Style. Steam not even mentioned
It's been pretty obvious since Xbox podcast when they pledged day 1 games for Xbox owners, but not exclusives. They just refuse to pledge exclusives every time they're given an opportunity to speak on it. Read between the lines.
Dey want ever win going against play Station Xbox people stupid selling the same console and ant Make in no money off the first one dey sad its a play Station world 😭 🌍 🌍
In the future, we will have what we might refer to as Universal Consoles. Behind closed doors, there’s probably an arms race to make a console that can play ANY game from any generation. Once we get to that point it’ll be a matter of who can refine that console the best at a particular point in time.
4:20 John, in 2024 PC is not _"a smaller addressable base"_ than Sony's platforms. Ofcourse Microsoft wants access to PlayStation Players because there are tens of millions of them - but PC alone is many fold more potential players than both PlayStation platforms, regardless or not if you combine that number with with the few million Xbox Gamers. There are peak times of the year, when on a given day - just on steam - there are more active players than all PS4 lifetime sales combined. Consoles are a shrinking business, and PC and mobile have been eating its lunch for some time now. Especially when we talk about younger demographics.
"...you are going to see more of our games on more platforms. And we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we're building. And we see that from players and the players love to be able to play". Yes, the players like to play. It's what we do, it's in our name. But we won't be doing it on an Xbox because why even bother buying one anymore? If Microsoft is done with the hardware war, that's fine, then stop making hardware. It's confusing that they're announcing new hardware variants while also giving people little reason to get one. May as well be saying "Don't worry about buying any of these Xboxes we're selling, all the games you want to play are also on PS5, Nintendo and PC".
I just wish everything was on PC. Luckily Xbox puts all their game on PC. Sony is only starting to do it somewhat. And games like GTA6 is only going to consoles first. It’s just annoying and terrible for the consumer. PC is the best in all ways except possibly price. But as long as you save a little bit, anyone can afford a PC that can afford to buy games.
Xbox barely squeaks by every few years with rock-solid game announcements, but half don't even hit market or make "enough" money. Like Shawn Layden said, Gamepass won't work unless it hits 500 mil subs. Going multiplat won't reach that, but I'll be glad to be proven wrong.
