Watch the full 2017 World Matchplay Final here as Phil Taylor takes on Peter Wright in what was the 16-time Champion of the World's last appearance on the Winter Gardens' Stage.
Was glad that Phil won his favourite tournament on his farewell and thus have 16 world titles and matchplays, but great to see Wright finally win a big title. Good things come to those who wait.
Peter Wright reached nearly every big title in the world (uk open, world matchplay, world championship) theres only one titel he never won The Premier League.
Taylor absolutely dominated this tournament. If it wasn’t for just 2 defeats, he would have won it every single year between 2000 and 2014. Staggering really.
@@lazyworkaholic7011 if mvg doesn't do better than wright in the world dart championships then weight goes number 1 in the world and mvg will be number 2
PDC please answer or upload the match why on Earth is MVG v Taylor 2013 WC FINAL still not on here its a joke one of the best matches ever Phil Taylor last WC and your channel haven't uploaded it! ridiculous really
I first watched Phil Taylor in 2017 when I was 11 and my dad told me how good he plays and that he is a legend. I am glad that I had the chance to watch his last match.
Well, Phil Taylor was a beast at the Oche. It is always hard to point out, who is the GOAT, in every sports. But: No one can deny, that Phil Taylor made Darts, what it is now....from a commercial point of view. All players after him take benefit from that, what he prepared over the years.
@@mikeoxmaul9386 I enjoy a game of darts, always have done, but I don't consider myself a sportsman, to me it's a pastime, looks like I've upset an obese beer guzzler.
@@pam-gw6uk well done shit brick, it only took you six months to come up with that top tier logic, something 'you' don't consider sport isn't sport? I must of forgot we have to live by your opinions lord pam
Looking back on this game again after getting to know Peter Write better. I felt bad for Peter after starting this match so strong. Peter really wanted this badly but "the power" wore him down. I truly admire Phil Taylor's staying POWER.
all those player that came and supposed to take over him 🤣 . barney , avg , lewis . all finished . avg only 3 world titles in 14 years . no human will have the staying power to beat phil .
When people say MvG is a greater darts player than Taylor, they tend to focus too much on limited periods like 2015-16, where van Gerwen was definitely a class on his own and beat Taylor at every opportunity. One must not forget, however, that this was when v Gerwen was at his best and Taylor probably at his worst. I also do NOT think that Gerwen played then (or ever) „darts that had never been seen before“. Even if he was, this wouldn‘t make him the GOAT considering the natural evolution of the sport. But checking the hard facts at Darts Database one notices there was no period in MVG‘s career, where you do not find a corresponding era when Taylor was even better. In e.g. 2008-2009 Taylor‘s average was over 104, in major and TV tournaments over 105! Over two full years! Maybe the world forgets that because there was no BOOM, grimaces, menacing celebrations. He was just out of reach of anybody, untroubled by serious competition, no last leg deciders... This is the truly impressive thing: yes, the other players were not as good as today, but Taylor was STILL so good. And of the highly praised superplayers of the present, no one comes only close to averaging 104+ over a year, or even 2 years...
@@schusterlehrling I'll always say Phil is the GOAT but I'm a huge MVG fan I just think he's so fun to watch. MVG's speed and the purple patches he hits in matches are absolutely brilliant but I always felt he never had the consistency of Taylor. Taylor had weaker opposition for so long so it was quite easy for him but without Phil being as good as he was for so long we don't get the level of darts we have now. All the money in darts now makes people want to play which means more players and will produce better players. All of that is down to Phil. Absolutely love MVG though, but we should all respect the man who made darts what it is.
I cant stand the twits that say Phil was not near his best when he retired. He won the world match play in his final year, he also ended runner up in the world championships that year to Cross, still the only man to take care of business against MVG for the 2 years previous. To me, he retired near the top of his game, averages high, winning tournaments, just too old to have the stamina of the scheduled requirements. Nice that the PDC bought in the stars after he retired. With his record it would have turned his shirts into a Liberace outfit. Always the champ Phil. Miss you already. Please do a 2 year comback.
It's not always easy to choose the very best in a sport. Snooker, Ronnie O'Sullivan. I think every snooker player would say that. Football? That's open to debate, but probably Messi? Cycling? It's Eddy Merckx. He won it all, all the time. Darts is a sport where it's not even open to debate. It's Phil Taylor. Almost total domination of the sport for 20 years. They say that eventually someone always comes along who's better at a sport, but I just can't see it happening in Darts. Van Barneveld and van Gerwen don't have half the trophies of Taylor combined. It goes beyond skill at this level. As Ronnie O'Sullivan has proved, it's a mind game. You can have all the skill in the world, but holding it together, year after year, when every player raises their game against you, takes a special mind-set.
funny thing is, ronnie has the worst temperament some of the time. but when he’s in a good headspace, untouchable. that’s what sets him apart, like taylor. when playing on his a game it’s impossible to beat him
It's interesting how in any sport that Some players fairly early into it's specific sport's existence can be well above the average/competition to set records that will stand years after the competition gets more advanced.
Залипательная тема, ещё в 2006 году смотрел чемпионат с Тайлером) по ТВ, потом я повесил доску на стену и играл сам с собой, с воображаемым соперником, очки записывал на листах)
I stopped watching Darts soon after he left. I didnt plan to do it, but it happend to be. I loved to watch him a lot and to know he is in this league and so on. Since then the special something in this sport is missing for me. But yea... Im pretty sure i get hyped again for it one day. At least the sport, the vibe and the crowd is amazing usually.
I did a 123 checkout at home and im 12,my Dad is huge into Darts, Definitely his Favorite sport to play,he watched the game live and said to me ,'' this is probably the worst player ive ever seen on TV at Darts''
I could never have been a dart player, imagine walking back and forth all day every day throwing 3 darts at a board, how brain numbing would that be ,it's ok watching the best in the world, but how many guys never make it,,,,thousands, I love watching but no way hozay could I have been a dart player, far to boring, a job for me
We throw the Darts at local club, we do not drink. Some Drunked idiot almost killed our Barmaid Lady throwing it backwards. This Is A Game of Gentleman and Ladies. If you have STIGMAS, brush it off now.
What is treble 17 ? Is that a db threshold ? The guy with the mic should move away from the board. A bit rude to be so close. Use an electronic board to score.
Thx for uploading this. I dont think peter let him win, but peter didnt want it very hard. He even would be happy with a win for phil. So he just played and at the end phil was the better Player.
Show the scores after each throw! Make it more enjoyable for us novice, please. It’ll be like when Poker put a camera on the hold cards. I’m constantly pausing and rewinding figuring out what their strategy is going to be.
The greatest man ever to pick a dart up MVG could only ever beat him when he was past his best and even then Phil won the main matches world final etc personality aswell as ability MVG always second best no matter how many stupid celebrations you do
The standard of darts is like snooker ,getting higher and higher. Which makes it even harder for the older established stars to reach the finals . Who would have thought that a Belgian would be the world snooker champion .
In my eyes it’s really down to how consistent MVG can be in his next stages of his career to become the greatest darts player over phill Taylor he would have to at least win 39 titles of the WDC, PL and MPD titles all together to just break even but the WDC is the hardest competition so really he needs to win 17 titles of the WDC which he won’t do phill Taylor has won the harder competition and done it for a very consistent amount of time MVG might get double figures in PL but that’s a maybe but MP or WDC he won’t get close there for with a very long message saying it sorry that phill will never be taken over he will always be the greatest of all time unless MVG wins another 30 or so titles of the 3 main majors in his rest of career then it’s never gonna happen
I think Wright had to let him win this really.. He seem to miss a lot lot lot more doubles than his usual self. Obviously won't admit he let this happen but we all know he took it easy on Phil. Still well played though.
