@@nazur72 That's not true - the US Olympic Committee decided they would not include breaking in LA 2028 before Paris 2024 even started. Olympic host cities collaborate with the International Olympic Committee years in advance to determine which sports to include in their program in addition to the core 28. If anything, Raygun brought publicity to the Olympics and breakdancing, which is net positive for both organisations.

The thing is, there is no set of standards to judge the performance of each candidate in breakdance. Judges may have preferences. If Artistic/Synchronized Swimming can be part of Olympics, why not this? This actually looks quite difficult to pull off and it requires a lot of physical prowess. I don't understand why there is so much hate for breakdancing as an Olympic sport. Granted it will need to be improved in the future by adding more games like team dance-offs and personal routines and skills display to music chosen by the dancers. For now, I feel breakdancing can be a valuable addition to the Olympics. Don't get me wrong, Cricket, Kabaddi, Tug of War, etc should also be added as Olympic sports, but breakdancing also deserves a spot in the Olympics. PS. The chemistry and competitive nature between the dancers was amazing.

@lloydgraves6701
@lloydgraves6701 Месяц назад
@@GWT_A Synchronised swimming is one example but there are many sports that have been part of the Olympics for a very long time that don't have objective scoring systems. Think of gymnastics, diving, equestrian and some combat sports such as boxing just to name a few and there are even more in the Winter Olympics such as figure skating and free style snowboarding. Of course there is a risk that judges will be bias but as there is no better way to score these sports it's a risk that we have to accept but this risk isn't even unique to these sports. There are plenty of sports with objective scoring systems that have had cheating scandals and unfair results etc. so that point doesn't really hold any weight in my opinion. I think what is strange, is that people are singling out breakdancing but can't explain why it's different from so many of the widely accepted Olympic sports I've listed above. If you don't think any sports with a subjective element to their scoring should be included in the Olympics, it would be very short event indeed.

Breaking is subjective yes, but it can also be judged via various preset criteria that can be somewhat easily measured. Ex. It is relatively easy to judge vocabulary, musicality, execution, and perhaps creativity. It’s just that a vast majority of people don’t do breaking, and therefore have trouble understanding the breaking terminology or criteria.

If you look at the history of the Olympics, art and painting were once an event, amongst other things. It's unfortunate that breaking won't be in LA 😢. I think the coverage wasn't high profile in France. It was an excellent games hosted by Paris ❤

I’m glad this is an Olympic sport - this was so impressive. If we have gymnastics, we should have breakdancing - it’s impressive floor-work plus the ability to spontaneously create a fluid routine.

@@markkealy4417 Okay it's Dancing and? It still requires incredible skill and dedication to pull of what these guys do and make it look so easy. Even if it was just normal dancing, it doesn't change the fact they are the best of the best to do it. That's what olympics is about, not some arbritrary set of criteria that qualifies it as a sport worthy of olympics. Olympic sport can be anything that has enough following and interest, because Olympics are about bringing people all over the world to celebrate things they love. Be it Basketball, Athletics, Football or Dancing.

All the comments saying that this shouldn’t be a sport revealing the layers of internalised racism/classism people haven’t dealt with yet 😂 It’s like HOW DARE an art form created in the STREETS by BLACK and LATINO people be put into a competition. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE!!! ?? 😡 You’ve gotta love it though. The 31 other dancers were sensational but people choosing to hone in on raygun who was the only weak one Luckily the world is leaving such peopel behind and this was an example of it. What an awesome event 👏🏽

@urameshi4725 lol the first bboys were poor American kids and young adults who partied together in the Bronx. Some of them were Latino(PR,DR, and cuban), some of them were Black American, African or Jamaican, the white kids were usually Italian, Jewish or of Irish decent. The first Bboy crew was the rocksteady crew, cleaaaarly multiracial, hip hop history is extremely well documented and most of the hip hop OGs at least for dancing are still alive.

My opinion breaking should be in the Olympics, but not yet. I'd rather see it sponsored and lobbied by redbull as it's been working with as an extreme sport for the past 20+, or a group other than the World DanceSport. It's an extremely political ballroom organisation, ballroom literally whitewashes/europeanises American, latin and afro dancing in the partner dance space and says their version is better. I think the actual community could work to form a proper and a competitive global committee and create standards that aren't based on Eurocentric qualifiers for dance as a sport. Urban dance communities are extremely well organised.
