You can thank the NBL for giving NZ a team to help promote the game there. What is the NZBL like in terms of popularity or do fans just watch the Breakers?

@@memesperson2287 honestly idk anyone who follows the breakers, but quite a few people go to the otago nuggets games, including me, and im sure its the same in other cities. But i think its more so the NBA thats the reason for the rise in popularity. There aren't many dads who watched the nba growing up, whereas tons of our generation watch it. It's probably the most popular sports league in NZ, in contention with the NRL, super rugby, and the NPC... and the all blacks obv but they don't play as much.

@finn54123 yeah I watched a few highlights of NZNBL and it comparable to NBL1 here in Australia where they play in small suburban stadiums. Breakers on the other hand has 8-10k attendance per game it seems and a larger budget. Also greater exposure to the world

What level competition is the New Zealand Breakers? Never heard of them, of course. They don't look as good as D-league play (maybe the unis?). I know it's professional because they are paid but are they top-tier A-level college ball material based on the score?

they play in the australian league, the nbl. Growing to be become quite an elite global league. Montrezl Harrel recently signed with one of the teams

The league is quite defense-orientated. The Breakers are 4-time ANBL Champions (2011-13, 2015) but currently retooling with former 76ers draftee Petteri Koponen as the new coach. RJ Hampton took his "gap year" with the Breakers in 2019-20 before declaring for the draft.

NZ breakers are the only non Australian team in the NBL. They are the Toronto Raptors of the NBA. Look up adelaide 36ers vs phoenix Suns highlights. The only Australian team to beat an NBA team in pre season.
