It's pretty clear to me that the fire crews were basically allowing the scrap piles to burn themselves out - focusing instead on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Well done, top-quality 2160p video with stereophonic audio, Chris! You're giving us viewers a dramatic impression of just how intense this fierce blaze really is. Automobile scrap yard fires are notoriously hard to extinguish - all we have to do is watch a fire department try to put out a SINGLE fully-involved car fire to understand what they were up against here. The radiant heat from this inferno must have been great, even where you were standing, Chris.

Not many professional fire fighters commenting here! The point here is to contain the fire and protect surrounding structure. This is scrap burning they let it burn so the hazardous waste in not washed into the surrounding ground but so its incinerated by the fire.

Everything is bigger in the US! So are scrapyard fires! But joking aside, great job by the firefighters, I wouldn't like to be the one to put that out👍! At temperatures above 1200°C (approx. 3000F) some light metals such as aluminium catch on fire. Aluminium or magnesium shavings are a key ingredient of incendiary ammunition.

Surround it, keep it cool enough not to spread and let all the hazardous flammables burn down so the clean up is not nearly as hard as it could have been. California has a brush fire cycle that has really big years every 10 years or so. It looks like this pile of fuels was due and merely needed containment to solve itself. By the crowd it must have been near a residential area. Most cities out west have buffer zones because sooner or later, it is going to burn.

I don't know the usa fire fighters don't roll up the hoses like it's done in the UK, they easily just unroll when needed.The U S makes heavyweather of it .
@joshw1687
@joshw1687 2 года назад
US trucks are also bigger then UK trucks
@ckrad
@ckrad 2 года назад
Because in the US you have an actuall hose bed where you neatly fold the hoses and can easily stretch basically been that way for generations only lines that are rolled up are extralines that are stored in the station or a few Duffy supply lines that are stored in the truck and or Lines that are out of service due to them breaking from wear and tear
@gonuts4donuts
@gonuts4donuts 2 года назад
Can't carry as much 5" supply line, 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" if it were rolled up. US fire apparatus carry a lot more hose and different sizes than European apparatus/appliances, that's why it's folded into hose beds and cross lays. Also, when American apparatus drop one end of the hose off at the hydrant, and drive off to the fire building, laying a supply line along the way, it wouldn't work right if it were rolled up rather than folded in the hose bed.
