If you make decent money, Philadelphia is better than NYC and DC. Center City has world-class dining and is super nice to walk around. If you can't afford the nicest part of the city, there are great pockets. If you make the same salary in New York, you live like a pauper in some corner of Queens.

I have been visiting Philadelphia for the past 40 years. Fell in love with the city during my initial visit. Then continued to visit there at least once a year. Amazed at how many changes have taken place since then. There is no longer the huge hustle and bustle of large crowds of people like before. Lots of the stores and restaurants I used to frequent are no longer there and the Gallery has been revamped. I still love Philly but so miss a lot of the places from before. I now visit with my hubby who loves it there as well!

Live in South Philadelphia very close to almost everything, park, the sports stadiums, gyms ,public transport Septas , 10 to 15 minutes from the city center or center city, I recommend South Philly if planning to move here, places I like most Th Rittenhouse square park, Penns Landings, FDR park . @@alexsinclair2012 I was in Kensington yesterday and I go to temple in north Philly. Now, certainly I try to avoid the really bad sections of the city but the greater northeast is a glorified suburb since it’s the only part of the city with 0 rapid transit. Go to practically any part of south Philly, fairmount, fishtown, or spruce hill/university city. Again, I wish the areas of the city with really high crime were in better shape, especially considering families of color are almost entirely the victims of inequality and crime in the city. The greater northeast is getting more diverse, but the far northeast is almost entirely a product of white flight and racism in the city.

I recently moved to Philadelphia and found this to be a great video! By far one of my favorite things about Philadelphia is being able to live in a walkable neighborhood where groceries, nightlife and transportation hubs are all within a 15 minute walk, which is absent in the large majority of America. The architecture also surprised me and I'm always finding new buildings to admire on these walks. Septa is decent by American standards but as someone whos lived in Europe the trains are pretty gross and fairly limited in where you can go. I would agree what you said at the end of the video in that Philly has alot of potential. Crime, drug addiction and poverty are all hot issues that seem to be getting worse, as it is across the US. If the local government, which is apparently a bit corrupt, could actually solve these issues and improve the material conditions of the impoverished population it would be one of the best cities in the US. Either way I like living in Philadelphia so so much more than I did in Florida.

The fine dining and varied amounts of great restaurants make it a great option for foodies. 2) You didnt visit Rittenhouse square or any of the surrounding areas which are the best and nicest parts of the city imo. They are also the most expensive to live in but as you noted its significantly less still than nyc/boston/DC 3) Fishtown. Borders Kensington which is admittedly not nice. But Fishtown is very different with a thriving creative cultuire, great dive bars and restaurants

Was born and raised in Philly! Seen this city go through many up's and downs in my short lifetime. My parents where architects and my mother loved Philadelphia's architecture making it the primary reason she moved here after college. From food, history, it's walkable layout, cheaper cost of living, and the pride most of us from philly share about local sports franchises has always helped the city thrive and keep its sense of identity! As for the crime, it's always been a thing. One of the biggest issues with local government in philly is not only some of the corruption from a few of it's leaders but that they are often reluctant to let newer outside business build on their more historic or architectural foundations. And they struggle to decide on how put money back into the city itself. From repairing roads and bridges, to renovating neighborhoods unless it's some "gentrification style plan" that promises to bring in more money they usually shutter at incurring extra costs themselves. The city government once tried to make the Philadelphia Zoo pay for it's water (it was always provided by the city at no extra cost for the Zoo) and the Philadelphia Zoo threatened to close the Zoo permanently if the ordinance passed. The city council backed out on that. In the end philadelphia could be more willing to let outside business set up shop in the city and be more willing put money back into its aging infrastructure and neighborhoods. Hopefully in ways that don't burden some of the already impoverished residents who live there. I do agree the city does have a lot of unrealised potential where the incremental changes aren't usually enough to offset some of the crime and poverty setbacks that persist. It's all a very multifaceted and complex problem that won't get fixed overnight but people from philly say 'they will live and die by their city!' and don't tend to give up that easy.

Tell me about ONE major US city that does not have a homeless problem? Not saying that Philly doesn't need to clean up its act, but I just went back to Denver for the 1st time since moving away over 25 years ago. A lot has changed. More new buildings and restaurants and things to do. But guess what? There are fences all around the museums downtown to keep the homeless from sleeping there. It's out of control. Even had a homeless person toss a full plastic bottle of water at my friend's head for no apparent reason. Luckily he missed her or it could have done some serious damage. When I lived in Denver in the mid to late '90s the city was small and pretty dead TBH. But I really enjoyed living there. But for whatever reason anytime anywhere in the US when gentrification happens and people start to "prosper" the homeless situation and poverty explodes. The country needs to find a way to keep people in their homes so all people rise when things get better not only a few. Philly is no exception.

Also when you have over 70% of criminals going right back to jail, how is that not the worst in the world? Jail is for rehabilitation not to just pump out cheap labor. Our prison system is literally legal slave labor. Also, its unfortunate Sazon ( the Venezuelan restaurant mentioned) closed a couple months ago. Wow! Must have woke up having a bad day when you decided to review this city huh? Or maybe you have a bias against it and wanted to just highlight all the negatives. Didn't go to or talk about not even one of the many nice areas. 😂😂😂Why didn't you highlight all the negatives when you reviewed Chicago which is one of the worst and most dangerous cities in the US but chose to focus only on the negatives when reviewing Philadelphia? You made Chicago look like the perfect City when it's arguably worse than Philadelphia.😂😂😂 Very strange biased and negative one side review what is an amazing City overall. Unfortunate because if there was someone who really wanted to truly learn about Philadelphia they would think is the worst city ever based on this review. So many amazing historical facts you left out as well. Didn't cover it's amazing history enough, didn't even talk about Betsy ross, South Street or cover its culture. You really did it in Injustice

You did NOT cover the gentrification issue in University City well... Penn is not giving the neighborhood "new life". It's taking peoples lives, businesses, and homes so that it can profit. Penn needs to do a LOT more for the community to outweigh all its taken from the people who use to live there

It's called Center City, not City Center. You also missed some of the most beautiful parts of Philly and you focused on the bad areas like Kensington. There are some beautiful areas like Fairmount, Rittenhouse Square, Manayunk, Mount Airy, Germantown, Chestnut Hill, Queen Village, Powelton Village, Society Hill, and many more. You also missed the great parks like Rittenhouse Square, Wissahickon, Pennypack Park, and Washington Square. Come back to Philly and explore it more and you'll understand it better.

Philly is only getting better since the past decade. Lots of growth and affordable housing being built, I went down S. Broad St. to see if the housing complex they were building was finished, and they were already building another one adjacent! Bike lanes and other walkable options are being planned and established. Homelessness is still an issue, unfortunately, and crime is no better. Still I feel like that shouldn't take away the potential this city has. Come and visit, have a cheesesteak by the Schuylkill! Just... don't visit Kensington if you value living.

I live in Philly. My 3 favorite neighborhoods in the city are 1) Passyunk 2) Fishtown 3) Rittenhouse (specifically more south Rittenhouse). None of those neighborhoods were mentioned so thought I’d add them there. As far as crime/safety goes, it basically just comes down to where you’re living. If you live in Fishtown, Rittenhouse, Old city, Washington square, or any of the neighborhoods in South Philly on the east side of broad street (like Bella Vista, Passyunk, Queens village, etc) then you’ll never really feel unsafe walking around day or night. I’ve never once felt unsafe (I’m a tall male though to be far). Beer and cocktail scene isn’t nearly as good as like Chicago. Food is pretty good but google really doesn’t help you when trying to find the good spots to eat, you have to kind of figure it out on your own through trial and error. Lots of cheap places though which is nice. Best part of Philly is how walkable it is and just the general feel of the city, it feels very unique and is very charming. Just walking around is a great time. Lots of great small local corner bars and restaurants all over which is great. Philly is what you make it, there’s something for everyone here.

the video is a cliché and at best underinformed and at worst plain wrong. Germantown has more 17th and 18th century buildings than any urban place in America. Left out of the video are the most scenic and green parts the city in Mt Airy, Chestnut Hill, and parts of East Falls, Rox, Germantown, and Manayunk.

Forner Correctional officer here, our prison system is the worst in world by far, the majority of people in our prisons are locked up for non-violent crimes & every single one of them is living off of our tax money in order for the prison system to continue making profit. If our prisons we're for criminals, a majority of politicians would be locked up,but it's not about who does crime, it's about who has the money to do crime. Remember everytime people talk about crime, think for a second, what exactly has locking up a huge portion of our population done against crime? Nothing. We've been punishing people for decades & still have the same problems. It doesn't work.
