Philip Glass - Opening from Glassworks performed by Ignas Maknickas at Vaidilos Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania. #philipglass #glass #opening #relaxation
@@ignasmaknickas Two days ago I bought a Yamaha CLP-645. The first piece I tried to play was this one, using the Bosendorfer voice - I immediately came here to tell you that you've motivated me to get back to music. I haven't played in nearly 10 years. Thanks for the inspiration Ignas.
@@MauricioEstrella i ve just bought a humble yamaha p125 ( i like it very much) , and the first piece i m trying is this one. I just came back to learn music a couple of months ago. I agree with you that this is probably the best performance of this piece.
I had goosebumps again. I saw many pianists playing Glass' Opening, and all they was mading circles with them body. It is incredible the "round" state of mind this piece causes. It seems all the universe is moving in circles, and we can "listen to" it. Only Debussy did something like that.
What a beatiful description to the feelings I have about this piece. Thank you. I'm a big fan of this particular piece as it helped me through hard times with my work by keeping me relaxed and focused. Now I've learned to play it on a piano and it has an ever greater effect when I can invoke the feelings myself. What a miracle! When I hear or play this piece by Philip Glass, I feel a deep presence of something greater than I cannot grasp otherwise.
It's really astonishing. This performance really is a revelation compared to every other I've heard. It's like you were the first to understand and be able to expose the emotion of this piece.
What a great performance! The slower tempo gave space for all the inner voice and rhythms to speak clearly. Beautiful colors all over the piece. Gorgeous ! Bravo!
When there are 4th of July fireworks I play this over and over again to calm my cats and it works. Beautiful rendition of a classic Phillip Glass song! He looks like he is in a trance while playing it.
This is a very original interpretation I think the crescendo on the whole piece is very satisfying and the most important thing in this song is to feel!
@@ignasmaknickas Agreed, typically it's played faster, and I always think "they're playing too fast," but always just chalked it up to the fact that I play it too slow. I now choose to believe this is just how to play it "correctly."
This piece was already brilliant, but this performance makes it a masterpiece. Like legit, the utter joy on the pianist's face? I can hear it! It's so good!
2:49 The superimposition of the string resonances sounds like an accompanying instrument that sounds something like between strings and horns. Amazing.
Almost every recording of this piece on youtube is just that: a recording. It's hard to find an actual "performance" of this - and I'm very happy that yours was the first in my search list. This is a WONDERFUL performance. I wish you nothing but the absolute best. Please stay healthy.
Incredible unique interpretation. This piece has so much to say. You’ve uncovered yet another story. I have to say, it’s my favorite so far. Can’t stop listening to it. An eternal cosmic lullaby.
I keep coming back to this, having watched it a dozen times - never have I seen a music video where the pictures conveyed just as much emotion as the music. It is my favorite version of this piece on the entire tube, it really emphasizes the beauty in the piece. Masterful performance!
Really wonderful performance. Taking it slower allows the two rhythms to be heard against each other clearly. I also like the contrast in dynamics between repeats. And then bring out different voicings - either RH or LH. Best performance I've heard of this wonderful piece.
The subtlety of the tension and resolution fall in on one another in a progression that is akin to a profound mediation. Mr. Maknikas performs this piece from that most ancient part of the cerebellum that one, with the view of his face, puts us in the meditative state with himself. Such a treat and a pleasure. He brings us a dopaminergic dance that not only listening but watching this young protege is priceless. Always a treat. I have a favorite musician that I know little if anything of. And of course, props to Mr. Glass for laying the groundwork and inspiiration.
What a great to describe this piece of music and this wonderful performance by Ignas Maknickas, thank you! Whenever I hear it or play it myself, I feel an incredible calmness and a presence of something greater that I cannot grasp otherwise.
It's March 2020 and we're all stuck inside because of the coronavirus. Thank you for your beautiful piano playing, your musicianship really calmed me down. :)
I've always love Glassworks and, particularly this piece. You truly breath life into it, transforming it into a beautiful flowing river of emotion. So thank you, and I hope you someday tour in the US... California, that is!
Something so much more mesmerizing watching someone in a classical environment play Glass. The music is mesmerizing already but watching it is fantastic. I hope to see a Glass performance sometime in my life.
Thank you, Ignas! Your playing is very delicate and passionate. I'm a big fan of this particular piece as it helped me through hard times with my work by keeping me relaxed and focused, like in a meditation. Now I've learned to play it on a piano and it has an ever greater effect when I can invoke the feelings myself. What a miracle! When I hear or play this piece by Philip Glass, I feel a deep presence of something greater than I cannot grasp otherwise.
Hello, Ignas. I think you really captured what Philip intended to write - I mean, this is how it should have been written. Hats off to you. Šaunuolis, Ignai :)
a year later and I keep coming back to this recording, sooo amazing, best version of this piece out there. Ignas I hope and pray you are doing well and you are accomplishing your dreams, keep on doing what you love!
Une multitude de mondes se decouvrent sous vos doigts. C'est une variation du même que vous révélez avec une grande subtilité. Vous nous emmenez si loin...et si haut....Merci !
Every Single Morning I listen to this in my headphones while I have the driving range to myself. Your style is unique, rapturous, and gorgeous. Frontal lobe tonic, and fingers on a Bösendorfer the way it was meant to be touched. I'll build a house with a room big enough for that Grand! I mean you probably don't need it right? ;) Also I"m gonna need your piano room moved to the E. COast and ur gonna have to teach me some scales.

Me encanta, preciosa pieza y sublime interpretación. Llegó a lo más profundo de mí. Gracias, muchas.
this music is breathless, just like the 1983 originaltitled movie "Breathless" by Richard Gere and Valérie Kaprisky with this stunning musical part of Philip Glass "Opening & Closing" (from "Glassworks", 1981) 🎼🎹☯
Esta composición es una de mis piezas favoritas de toda la vida, y sin duda ésta interpretación es la más sublime y hermosa versión que he escuchado, magistral! Makes me cry!
