A Pom living in France for 30 years: never had a television but have found you on RU-vid, my only company in lockdown here. SUNRISE is fabulous and I should know, my partner was a noted australian broadcaster and I did programmes and interviews for worldwide radio when I was & little joey working for a well known recordcompany. Keep up the quality work!! it is so pro and comfortable and doesnt try to be hip (but 30 years out of date like the BBC)

@@valeriedavidson2785 Valerie, you are so right but when we came I needed an adventure before I drifted into late, mundane, middle age. We arrived in an hamlet of three paysan families and it was the most wonderful experience. Their own children were the first not to take to the soil so the three wives and the three old farmers taught us all the paysan arts and crafts and farming by hand. Birthing cows, everything that transcended the imagination. It was life in the English countryside at the turn of the 19th centuary. Now, I agree, it is vile and the young have been taught that it is Brits (generic for anyone who doesn't speak French) who have made property so expensive and beyond their children. I am about to repatriate for the final chapter.

Yet, he was so warm, so charismatic, so funny.. I’ll treasure that memory always 🥲 He was quite close to my grandad as well; visited Yorkshire many times throughout my grandfathers running of a school for disadvantaged and disabled children. The duke was very much like my Grandad in many ways - humorous, cheeky, warm and caring.. swore like a trooper.. 😂 Neither had a filter between brain and mouth, that’s for sure! 😆 RIP Prince Philip. Diana was aristocracy too; she was not a commoner. Diana was born into the British nobility and grew up close to the royal family on their Sandringham estate. When Diana's grandfather died in April 1975, her father became the eighth Earl Spencer. If Philip was a funny man, I am now not surprised his marriage to Elizabeth lasted this long. Aside from a sense of duty, a good sense of humor is needed to make a marriage work. I love how Prince Philip was able to make the Queen slowly smile and sometimes laugh at public engagements...a good example at around the 6:25 you can see she has no expression on her face and you can see Prince Philip speaking...then you can slowly see a smile growing on the Queen's face...there's countless examples of this throughout their very long lives together. They had the same type of relationship that my Grandparents had one based grounded in mutual respect love admiration and friendship with one another. They were truly each other's best friends. They actively chose to prioritize and decided to work on/at their relationship. That is a key factor in any relationship working for decades. The novelty of the 1st initial physical attraction eventually wears off. What you find attractive interesting and desirable about your partners personality can also wear off in time. It takes a willingness and effort to work at support and nurture your relationship. I personally find and believe that romantic relationships that are grounded and founded in friendship with mutual respect and dignity for one another are the relationships that stand the best possible chances of lasting for decades. You can't just take each other or your relationship for granted thinking that it and each other will always just be there...

I find Paul’s comment of the Queen’s and Prince Philip comment on Charles and Diana to be so true. Charle’s was jealous and resented Diana. He was so shy and uncomfortable around people. He was afraid of making a mistake and being made fun of. Diana was so comfortable around people. It came so easy to her. The people were so dazzled with her, her fashion and her being a mother. She wanted her husband to be proud of her. When Charles first met her she was extremely shy. She wanted Charles to see how far she came and how hard she worked. She wanted to hear Charles say how proud he was of his amazing wife. Charles was resentful of her because it’s his birthright. To be among the people. To be adored by the people. They weren’t interested in Charles. Sadly he was boring. Diana was a breath of fresh air. This is where Camilla and Diana are different. Charles wanted a wife who did not outshine him. Who was not interested in fashion or being an icon. Camilla is perfectly fine by letting Charles be center stage. Diana became famous for her style because she thought it make Charles happy and proud to have such a beautiful wife. She was doing it for him. Most men would have been crazy to have a wife like Diana. Not Charles . This baffled the Queen and Prince Philip and his brothers and sister. Camilla was perfectly happy to remain in her own style, ten paces behind her husband and in the shadows. Camilla was a good listener. Diana not so much. She was very young. Had all these men and women tell her how gorgeous she was. She was that, with an amazingly huge heart and smile for others. That made her so endearing. Except from one person her husband. Charles and Diana wanted the same thing from each other. Just went about it in the wrong way. Ending up hurting each other. The Queen and Prince Philip could plainly see and say of Charles - what is wrong with our son? Is he blind? Diana and the Prince of Wales wanted the same thing - love and acceptance. Neither got it from the other.

What my comment meant, if I may explain (though I really don't need to), is FOR HER (the queen), he was the king. FOR HER. Sometimes, in a couple's relationship, the wife is regarded as the husband's queen as the husband is regarded as the wife's king. Figuratively and metaphorically speaking. Hope this settles it. 😊

Prince Philip, what a humble and true gentleman he was. He was God's chosen life partner for the Queen and together they have created a great legacy. He lived to nearly a 100 years old. It will go down in the history of the 20th century. As a Papua New Guinean, I'm deeply sadden.

Those boys were not born out of love on Charles end. Remember Charles "whatever that means" when asked if he and Diana were in love.

Based on what we saw of Diana over the course of their marriage I don't blame him saying that. She was selfish, spoiled, petulant lil girl that wanted all the trappings but none of the duty or responsibility of being a Royal. Hmm, kind of reminds me of someone right now......

@@rosalindbirungi9164 Disagree if you so choose. The very fact that she spent most of her engagements looking like a basset hound in the face, always drooping and mopping, and had the nerve to do an interview discussing family business in the news shows was far from "ready for duty." Mary of Teck would have beat Diana within an inch of her life had she been alive.

Wow, more insight and images from Paul Burrell. He's really a font of royal knowlege! "Cabbage" is from the much used French term of endearment; "Mon petit chou" which translates to "my little cabbage". How sweet. It's good to know the Queen will not close herself off in grief as Victoria did.

Was there a French term of endearment " My cabbage head" ? I could swear I heard someone use that term many years ago. Jeff

Who can know the future? The plan is for 14 days of mourning. Ever the dutiful realist Prince Charles' s "mama"will continue her commitments to us as far as she is able with various senior Royals in support. Sigh. Poor things. Aafter my dad died....well everyone is different and their circumstances also.....

This is from a different comment: LJ R Cabbage is French for “my little cabbage head” Or “Mon petite Chou Chou”. It is a term of endearment for someone very special that you love very much.

Thank you for sharing those moments and dear thoughts, memories and feelings ...it really feels we loose as HRH Prince Charles puts it a great or grand father figure, a father depending on everyone age, it touches all of us dearly the impressions made and sent recalled , and how lovely of him...so deep is the mourning sadness..over his own father ...As we all wait to ...follow the ceremony...about camilla though..of course yet how in the end..the first cut is the deepest..and in that respect how brave The prince...one might say ..if it happens sometimes at wedding....someone should have shouted ..i object.....but in his position in that day..against his will he had to wed...and diana was lovely....but true love finds its place in the end....and he should be king really as'to then after pass the tradition to his son ....it is time
