I believe your referring to more mainstream/household b4 everyone bites your head off.... I feel like right b4 covid he had sooo much momentum I was hearing his name 100x more too. But... All of the living guitar gods know and praise his abilities and he is popular af with the blues fam just like SRV was. You can't help but respect a guy who stays true to his art and doesn't sell out to the pop machine. Im sure he could be making bank as a studio hit man and touring with whatever new fresh piece of ass that is getting financial backing and passed around LA and Nashville but he doesn't seem to play that game. IMHO
@@rockhead69 Sorry dude… No doubt Phillip is a virtuoso, but this performance was unmusical and nothing but a shameful display of self serving gymnastics. Hendrix would scoff at him.
Holy shit! Does Philip ever STOP getting better? Jeez!!! Great, nice and humble dude. I'm inspired every single time I see and hear him play. His style, his skill, his intensity and soul. And DAMN! The brutality of his tone!!! Should be registered as a lethal weapon! Get 'em Philip!! Hell YEAH!
Wow, I just witnessed Jimmy Hendrix, SRV, Robin Trower and Pat Travers is just one F---ing song. Amazing talent Amigo!!!!! A new fan created tonight!!! How have I not witnessed this amazing talent before...
..just discovered Philip..very nice! Guitar playing/performances like this is not in the mainstream as much anymore, but still exist..you just have to look a little harder for it.. I believe the guitar, and the actual band form of music, will come back around to the mainstream.. but right now, it's kind of dormant building power. Stay blessed.. . and rock on my friends😎🎸🎶
He should be a household name by now. Been following him for years and he just blows me away with every song. His live performances are beyond next level! Thanks for posting.
Just when I began to believe that all a Strat has to offer has already been done, someone like this comes along to prove me wrong! Thank you for your performance!!! Looking forward to following your career, and hoping to catch a live performance if and when you hit northern California!
Ive been seeing that strat in his social media during lockdowns and so stoked to see and hear it live. I believe those are his signature pickups too. I forget if they are clones of Mother or the other strat but they are fire!
Wow!! This guy makes that fake pretender Bonamassa look like a beginner!! Awesome!! Does anyone know if he ever makes it across the pond to the UK? Got to see this guy live!!!
For sure, Philip has picked where SRV left, and kicked it up a few knotches. Impressive skills, speed, but not losing the FEELING. Thanks for keeping the blues alive 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Why this guy is not way more famous than he is i will never understand, he is better than most all blues players but most people have never heard of him. He is truly one of the greats!!!!!
Almost didn’t recognize him with his haircut short now, but there’s NO MISTAKE that it’s PHILLIP … Having had the rare opportunity to see him play live about 5 years ago at the Julian Blues Festival here in So Cal ( up in mountains outside of San Diego), he plays everything like his life depends on it … and even now in this one 5 years later. Still kicking Ass 👍👍. Thanks for posting this epic performance.
Well done. The whole vibe feels good. Now let's talk about the mix. Wow the guitar is really out front even when he's not soloing. Vocals are a little more covered than I would like but I heard a lot of love recordings where the Hendrix guitar was out front too so, in this sense, it makes the performance sound more "period", more 1960's. He clearly is performing here to not take any prisoners.
Holy Moses Hot Damn !! Talk about fluently ripping it up like a champ! I'd hate to be the guitarist to go on after this performance, it's like his fingers were possessed by the Devil himself! 🤘🔥🤘
Well a dear friend sent me this and to check him out. Of course im a smart man and do so. I expected him to be great...but that...i didnt expect that....that was better than great. Hes incredibly special. Wow.
There are a few players that just crush it live over every one of their studio recordings and Philip is one of them. He just keeps getting better, firestorm.
As much as I do love and appreciate Sayce. He is just all on full the whole time and even though it is amazing playing it ends up just a wall of noise. Id love him more if there was more dynamics highs and lows and less 100mph.
Listen to “ Once “from this same show…amazing performance. I don’t really agree though about it being a wall of sound…to me, when done right by Phillip Sayce, it’s a sight to behold and pure magic. He said let’s have fun with this one… which to me means he’s going to just have fun and go nuts for these two songs and he played his ass off. He really gave his all. Playing with that much fire and passion with all that speed where you can still hear every single note during his fast runs is, to me, simply amazing. The guy is just a virtuoso and if you dig into his catalog you’ll find tons of slower songs with lots of space. Actually, most of his albums are mostly songs played in that manner, with room and lots of feel. But from this performance, a new song he wrote after his father passed away called “ Once “ , Michael Palmisano did a reaction video to it and breaks it down and it’s a beautiful song with a beautiful chord progression and it builds perfectly. This was Sayce doing Hendrix and Blackmore and just having fun to end the show. Personally I’m always super impressed and happy we have someone like him who is a mix of SRV and Hendrix and Jeff Healey combined with his own style that can play the guitar and sing at the highest level. There aren’t many left like him and I hope he’s around for a long time because he’ll only get better.
Absolutely crushing guitar work by Philip, but also a huge shout out to the drummer & bassist for holding down the bottom end! Definitely giving of the Layton/Shannon vibe
Double whammy.....Most of the excellent guitar players out there dont have the strong vocal skills to pull it off. Philip is a rare breed in that regard....
alw3ays amazing , I dont get guys who play that style never looks like the are cleanly fingering anything but sound amazing and they play with such force and abandon
I hear a little bit of Stevie Ray, a little bit Gary Moore, some Jeff Healey. This guy is an Amazing Guitarists. I want to hear what he has to say as a musician. He has allot to say, but at times it seems very Manic, no disrespect. But at times it seems like Speed Blue's, again Amazing Guitarists!
I just found him, he's fantastic! I'm a blues fan too. This guy is the whole package, playing, nice voice! So many good artists don't get the recognition they deserve.
Another huge guitarist over the decade or so, imo, is Chantel McGregor. Try to catch her version of Mountain Time by Joe Bonamassa. " Chantel McGregor Band Mountain time Part 2"
