In ten years time Jaroussky is going to proudly tell that he knew her when she was just at the start of her (undoubtedly amazing) career. He is a wonderful musician with a great technique and a very nice timbre, maybe one of the best countertenors ever, but she is one of God's miracles.

I am such a great fan of Philippe Jaroussky... and I gladly do agree with you. That a voice and an artist as Julia Lezhneva even exists defies humanity. My belief is that if Mozart was a vocalist, he would have been incarnated in Lezhneva. I recommend to listen to Porpora's Germanico in Germania with a very fine cast, including of course Miss Lezhneva who is simply a breathtaking miracle. With all my due respect for Anna Netrebko and all great prima donnas, I believe that Miss Lezhneva should have their fame.

Beautiful! Note the total absence of vibrato, from both singers and strings, with no waggling of left hands. Vocal blend and dynamic balance are perfect. Pergolesi would have approved!

Ich bin römisch- katholisch erzogen, mit 14 ausgetreten aus einer Kirche, die das Abbild eines gefolterten Mannes zu ihrem Symbol erhoben hat und meint, damit alle Sünden dieser Welt abgegolten zu haben. Nichtsdestotrotz ist das Stabat mater von Pergolesi eines der schönsten Stücke Musik, das je geschrieben wurde... hier in wunderbarer Interpretatioon.

La vocaliste est une première soprano - le son est là, l'esprit n'est pas là, ce qui pour ce chef-d'œuvre est fatal. Heureusement, il existe une version où, aux côtés de Philippe Jaroussky, Emöke Barath et Nathalie Stutzmann brillent, bien sûr.

Stabat Mater Dolorosa ( pronounced "Stahbot Mahtear Dolorosa" ) = "Stood the Mother, full of grief" ---- the hymn describing the Virgin Mary's sorrow at Jesus's crucifixion........Pergolesi knew he was dying ( at age 26 ) as he completed the piece.......originally composed for 1 soprano voice, 1 alto voice and a 4 piece chamber accompaniment.....and, of course, sung in Latin.....well known in the classical repetoire......here sung by a counter tenor and alto voices

It's really beautiful. Both singers are brilliant, however in my opinion their voices don't blend together so nicely, being Lezhneva's much more "ringing" and "bright", and producing many more overtones. She has got a voice with amazing "squillo"! That's why very often Lezhneva's voice "absorbs" Jaroussky's and one hears her much more than him, even when she's singing pianissimos. In my opinion, Jaroussky's voice doesn't have this "squillo" characteristic (not all singers have it, regardless of how good they are), and it even lacks focus in certain passages. I really like him, but this is one of the vocal flaws that I find in his singing in general. Apart from this, we are in front of a soprano who sometimes sounds like an alto, and a light countertenor who can sound a bit "sopranoish" at times, so the difference between both voices isn't always very clear. I'd love to listen to this music with the following combinations: Lezhneva-Scholl and Rial-Jaroussky, I think both combinations would be amazing!

Also the Soprano has the top line. The higher notes take precedence in our ears. Also perhaps Jaroussky is 'crooning' a bit too much. - not projecting.

She is pretty damn good, it has to be said, and he's not bad either. He sounds less countertenorish than your usual countertenor, if you follow me, which is a good thing to my somewhat uncultured ears. Am I the only one who thought the lutenist was over-egging it, though...?
