You know why Filipino pilots are good? 85% of our domestic airport are not equipped with landing sophistication like VOR, ILS so Filipino pilots is trained in landing planes on visual approach. With or without sophistication they can land it just like parking a car... :)
It's not important what nationality the pilot is,what is important here is he displayed an awesome skill in landing the plane and saved about 400 lives.
OMG. This was the very plane that took me back home to the Philippines a few hours ago (we arrived Sun August 28, 8 am Philippine time). I didn't know that it had TWO blown tires, nobody from LAX or PAL explained to us what was going on. I commend the PAL pilot and crew team for their great work, but I would've also greatly appreciated LAX telling us why our original boarding time of Fri August 26, 10:30 pm was changed to Sat August 27, 2 am.
Thought always delayed but Im proud of our Carrier Airlines (PAL ), they always see that their passengers are safe....10 Thumbs for the PILOT and Crew.
I first went to the Philippines in 2001 on a Philippine airlines Airbus A340 four engine jet It was a really nice flight On the way home I was on a Boeing 747 400 and Oh my God what a different experience , when you take off in a 747 you feel those huge powerful engines and a tremendous force of thrust as we climbed at a really steep angle , That big jet has so much power and is so much faster than the Airbus , infact the A340 felt underpowered compared to the 747 I really loved flying on 747s I always felt safe , it was really a nice airliner Then in 2016 when my son was born in the Philippines I took a China southern flight on the huge A380 airliner That huge behemoth of an airliner with the biggest jet engines in the world was just incredible on takeoff Because of the huge amount of thrust from those giant engines and the huge amount of lift from those giant wings that airliner on take off just wants to go right up in the sky like nothing , it is a joy to fly in the A380 , powerful and tremendous lift , it feels big inside but the plane feels very light weight I love that big beast But the Philippine airlines flights on 747s were always the best the way the captain takes off and you go up at a steep angle skyward I'm really sad about the airlines not using these 4 engine jets anymore They are going to two engines to save on fuel , I understand But nothing was safer and more powerful than having four engines with plenty of thrust available if needed I really can't understand why Airbus is not making the A380 anymore ? No customers That airliner isn't even that old There are some routes still using 747s and A380s though Like going to the middle east And Australia routes which makes sense I'm not sure if Philippine airlines still uses 747s I know China southern is still using their A380s It was always fun to fly on Philippine airlines because their Captains are bad ass pilots and it was a thrill going fast and almost straight up on take off out of Manila You can't do that in a big twin engine jet , they feel weak compared to a big 4 engine 747 And to even be a 747 pilot you are the best in the world Philippine pilots are some of the most professional and highly trained pilots in the world , it's always a joy to fly in Philippine airlines And China southern airlines
-Lapu Lapu -Dr. Jose Rizal -Emilio Aguinaldo -Manny Pacquiao... And now we add Kuya the pilot as a hero of the Pi. 400 passengers and 20 crew. Give Kuya a shot of Red Horse right now after that stressful moment. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
I was one of those passengers on that flight, I was with my mom and I was just eight years old back then when we went to visit our relatives in LA. But during that flight all the passengers inside, didn’t know that we were having landing problem I guess they don’t want us to panic. But actually, we didn’t know that we have a landing problem. Actually, the flight landed really smooth. The funny thing is, we didn’t even know that we have a landing problem until we all got out of the airplane, then we realize we’re on the road still in the runway getting out in the airplane and then we don’t usually use shuttle bus to get to the airport because you know we have those connecting tubes through the airport, so I guess they didn’t want us to get close to the other airplane if something really bad happens during our landing so we stay there to the open floor I guess so that if we ever didn’t make it the other flights, wouldn’t got to go through that. we are very lucky how smart our flight crew because if we weren’t for them i guess I wouldn’t be in college now.

Filipinos Pilots always the best,I would never barter a Filipinos Pilots to Anyone not eventhough foreigner .thumbs up for that always, good jobs Filipinos Pilots,Keep the good work always and Congratulations always, all of you are the best.thanks for savings the lifes of the passengers and yours too.Thank you for everything.thats all and thanks.
actually they did that not to slow down the aircraft but because they reported that gear to be malfunctioned. they lit the light up so that the ground crew can see it and report to the pilots if it really is broken. they report back to him that its ok, so they touch it to the ground. i believe they can slow the aircraft with using reverse thrust im not 100% sure because im not a pilot.
Is this the same fleet that made an emergency landing @ the Sapporo Intl. Airport? If it was, that plane needs an overhaul of sorts. KUDOS to the pilots who took control of this flight. Superb landing!
PAL pilots are well trained, if you read all the information of pal pilots they are all grad. of phil. airforce..it is a good signed for the phil. airforce...saving 400 souls on board and 20 crew members.
we are very proud to be a Filipino!!imagine you save 420 lives?i want to congratulate the captain for a job well done.even they getting a rough salaries. We are still concern on the safety of our people.not for money...:)
@stobodort Aug. 27 Saturday Morning (Manila Time). According to one of the passengers on board PR102, pilot didn't announce that the 747's having landing gear problems (surprisingly, Anabelle Rama was on the flight). Passengers knew something went wrong when they saw fire trucks and paramedics on the runway.
TOUCHDOWN!!!! FACT: Filipino pilots are considered as ONE of the BEST pilots in the world. They go through intensive training, they practice at short runways to name one is Honolulu International Airport...the best ones
@heartbleedsgreen Nobody announced it to the passengers who were on the plane, and to the waiting passengers at LAX like us (who had to wait around 12 hours for this).
@Genocide08 - good for you! I hope you become like him someday...again NOT just because he's PINOY BUT because he's a good pilot...wawa naman yung ibang pilot na ibang nationality...parang hindi sila magaling kasi hindi sila "PINOY"...I'm just saying. In order to succeed one must become humble!
Dko alm kung nasusunod pa ba to ngayon. Ang balita ko po kasi dito sa pinas bago ka maging commercial airliner pilot at bgo paswelduhin ay kailangan mong magkaroon ng 1500 flying hours samantala ang sa amerika ay 250 flying hours lng
@HeroshiKurashiwa your'e partly correct when you said we have good pilots. we may.. or may not.. but again, FAA does not only look at pilot skills in judging category. there's kind of planes used, new or factory refreshed, etc. and standards an airline should pass (does ISO sound familiar to you?). Google "British Travel Advisory Website" and look for Philippines. Under travel summary, read Bullet 5. British Gov't is warning their people to avoid flying with Philippine-certified airlines
for me the most amazing pal pilots did was that cocpit bombing in 1995 that pal pilots were able to land safely in okinawa I belived even though part of the plane was disable
Is PAL planning to replace those old planes? I try to pick an airline that has more newer planes, regardless of stop overs. They all have delays anyways, even for direct flights.
James Martin because of the recent incident of Philippine Airlines where there was like an engine surge forcing the jet to have an emergency landing back to LAX just after takeoff from same. Salute to the Pilot!
Don't tell me this is the first time? I tell you they even fly in the middle of the storms. I thought I was gonna die but no just a chicken to them...land safely
@sablo75 Blown tires is a result of a debris from the runway being runned over by the plane upon its take off. Not the fault of local aero mechanics...
