While visiting the former highest point of the Philippine Highway in Atok we couldn't be satisfied until seeing the new one as well.
So we left the beautiful foggy Maligcong, Bontoc and headed towards the remote Tinoc in Ifugao stopping by the New Highest Elevation of the Philippines. It turned out to be the scariest but some of the most exciting and beautiful roads we've ever experienced! Cold temperatures, landslide, high elevation and drops, unfinished rough roads, and even a scary encounter that left us uneasy for the first time.

I don't know if my favorite moment was Pixel on the cabbage patch, the cute moments in Tinoc or riding through the crazy road itself...? Regardless of the creepy encounter we had that left us a but uneasy this was such a great adventure and I'm so excited to have more soon!! 😍

I like the riding in the little overpasses:small arches of stone carved out of mountain. & the little boy, so cute & wide eyed. He was fascinated by Susie.

P.s. …yes it is difficult to pick one fave. I also was charmed by the feathery carrot tops & the blooming cabbages in their patch. Another moment in my rewatch that I liked was the self serve rice. Susie served up a perfect, restaurant looking rice plateau! I know it is not difficult to do but I never do that with rice all my life, when serving it. & in my country it isn’t served in that manner either, at jest not commonly, even in Chinese or Japanese etc restaurants (usually comes in a round bowl or a unshaped serving on the plate).

Thanks for the upload Susie, great decision on trusting your instincts when feeling unsure of a possible bad situation occurring. It's always better to pull out rather than being placed in a defensive position or having to bring the fight to a possible assailant.

The Philippines is called Asia's pearl of the orient for the richness of its culture and the beauty of its landscape. It is home to centuries old churches, turn of the century mansions, ancient forts and modern museums. The Philippines is an archipelago comprising 7,100 islands.

I have never seen this part of the Philippines. Thank you for sharing your journey. It is beautiful in Benguet. Landslides occur after succeeding heavy rains. I live in California and the road on the way to Tahoe or Eastern Sierra always has landslides and rock slides. A few times in 10 years the bridge collapsed and took years to repair causing heavy traffic because the road was reduced to one lane,
@SusieinthePhilippines
@SusieinthePhilippines Месяц назад
I'm happy we could take you there through the video! Landslide is sure scary. Seeing these rough roads I was a bit uneasy even though it was a great adventure! But I would definitely prefer not riding through here during rainy season.

This is why I felt relief that you guys decided to stay in Jonathan's hometown or somewhere near that part of the country, especially for the safety of not just you guys but Susie's parents as well. Traveling around the different islands in the Philippines is one thing, but settling for good is another. Filipinos in general are good, friendly people, but we have a very diverse culture. I remember when we hiked Batad, I asked our guide what the plants were on the terraces because it's harvest season. The porter asked, Why am I asking without knowing it's a Maryjane? I learned not to ask again. Another time, during our travels in Bohol for work, when the staff from Tourism didn't like the lunch we offered, they were talking in front of us in their own language, complaining about the lunch. They had no idea. I can understand some Visaya words.
@SusieinthePhilippines
@SusieinthePhilippines Месяц назад
Yes, safety is always the most important! People in the Philippines are extremely friendly but bad encounters can happen everywhere in the world. Also interesting info, I didn't know about the special plant in Batad! Only ever encountered it in Buscalan. 🙈

Wow finally Tinoc is fixing their roads. Last time I went there, backhoes are pulling up trucks and 4x4. ice sheet build on top of water. Everymorning bath is like brain freeze. Memorable. Btw, you mis vlogging the "real Yamashita area" has mini-museum there.

i probably would have scavenged a few of those left behind ugly carrots and cabbages, lol pretty rough for residents during the rainy season when landslides are frequent and they often get cut off from the world because of impassable roads.
@SusieinthePhilippines

Hahaha I was so tempted but I felt like it's stealing even though you're right it was just clearly thrown and treated as trash. 🙈 I can imagine it's so difficult! We've seen so many small houses on the cliff with nearby landslide must be so scary during big rain or typhoon.

Have u smiled and waived hello when you saw those people? They will respond when u waive at them. We dont really talk with strangers on the road. Just saying. 😅😅
@SusieinthePhilippines
@SusieinthePhilippines Месяц назад
We meet many strangers on the road, share a smile, a nod or just pass by without interaction. This was different. We both felt something was off. It was a group and they were already watching us from further away then just pulled up very very close to us without saying a word, watching closely what we do. 99% percent of my encounter with people are positive here but bad people can be anywhere so it's better to be careful. We can't know what was going on for sure but it was the safer choice to leave!
@wintersojourn9356
@wintersojourn9356 Месяц назад
Imo You were 💯 percent wise to heed your judgment. Always in that kind of scenario, trust your gut. So many times, people say “I had a bad feeling or just felt off, but they looked fine & nothing was strange in their behavior really…”. I just watched Adam & Jane’s channel & they had a Samar Cobra in their garden. Adam laughed & said he thought he felt it watching him when he couldn’t see it. I was thinking, it probably was! Our gut instincts still give us valuable info on danger or potential danger. . Susie knows, growing up around nature or farms & animals, there’s nonverbal communication. Sometimes it’s unmistakable.
@wintersojourn9356
