Lovely!!! So many happy memories with my EE 1003, a long time before this advanced EE 2003. Mine was organized by my real Dutch Uncle who used to be a director of Philips until 1976. I wish they would bring them back.....

Great video! over 40 years ago I had an EE1003 with the EE1005 superhet add-on. I have just obtained these model kits again, so I'll be re-living my experimenting days again! One comment on the am radio, It was found better to use insulated wire to fix the ferrite rod, otherwise bare wire acts as a shorted coil, and reduces the signal...

Haha, this takes me back. I wasn't born then but even in the mid-late 90s I had and loved a similar kit, The difference was the components were fixed in position and permanently attached to the springs and you'd just connect wires between springs. I'm sure you've seen kits like that. The other reason this takes me back is because the components (other than the mustard capacitors) are identical to those used inside my 1982 philips PM3217 oscilloscope, the difference being that they are on a PCB. No ICs in that scope except for a couple of transistor arrays it's all discrete transistors, thermally bonded matched JFET pairs in TO-18 metal cans and bipolar transistors in TO-92 plastic. Wonderful

Yes, i know those kits. Had (and still have) a few of those. The problem is that you cannot see the circuit layout through the spaghetti bundle of wires so it does not help you understand how and why each project works. I have used the PM3217 in the years i have worked for Philips but i've never owned one. Nicely over-engineered like all stuff from that era.

That,s a good kit. Phillips gear was always dependable. Nice that it has been looked after and still works..

Congrats! Your kit is in mint condition. I used to have an EE-20 (GE transistors) but all I have left of the original is the variable capacitor and some polyester and electrolytic capacitors. I managed to rebuild all 20 projects using a breadboard and new parts. A couple of years ago there used to be on RU-vid, a really old Phillips "Pioneer" kit, but it seems to have disappeared.

Hi Matt! Yes, i know those kits. The components all had a fixed place on the board and you connected them with wires, losing the overview after connecting 3 of them. And with every wire you connect two come loose from the fiddly springs. When it finally works you have no idea what it does :) The strong point of this kit is that you can still recognise the circuit once built. I've learned a lot from this kit. And yes, it's me. I have the same problem you have: kid not interested in technology.

I found this awesome nostalgic video because someone saw our product (LightUp) and said it reminded him of this kit. If anyone here is interested, we're developing an educational electronics kit that combines electronic building blocks with an augmented reality tutor app. We hope to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists!

Great kit! Could you tell me what camera and software you used for the time lapse?

Hi ! You must try this circuit build around the Philips EE system, but with Germanium transistors. I've compared it with the EE2003 radio and guess what, it is able to pick up moe stations. The transistors used are AF116 and AC126. I've uploaded 2 videos, one during daytime and one during nighttime. Greetings

Are there any AM stations left? The one in the video was the only one and it closed down since then. The transmitter site was only 20km from here.

Hi ! Where I live , This receiver is able to pick up a few Dutch stations, French stations, during daytime. In the evening there are also a Rumanian station, 2 German stations, an English and a few I don 't understand :-) With he Ee2003 circuit only 1 French station can be heard, so I think it must have something to do with the circuit. You can find my video on my RU-vid channel. If you find time, try to build this one, you would be surprised ! Greetings

I used to have something like this. All the components were connected onto small springs-if you bend the spring you get a cap to insert the wire. Search for "50 in 1 electronics lab" then I upgraded to the "200 in 1 electronics lab". I used to run the LED at 9 volts at all times (without limiting resistor) probably coz the 9v PP3 was always flat! Is that you or Aswhin reconstucting there? (ah just seen hair on the arms! lol) 08:40 I would have put 240VAC on it just to make everyone jump haha!

@hugosneyers
