According to the manual, it is for vertical use. I haven't tried it for horizontal use like an iron.

Unfortunately not, I just got mines in because they said you could also steam your bed our sofa however this water reservoir can not pick up the water to create it in to steam when you use it horizontally. So for me it is basically useless now.. I will return mines (it did work perfectly vertically on my thick curtains)

I bought portable garment steamer recently, but not this brand. Coming from daily from garment steamer user for about 10 years, I can tell u that it is not really steaming the water. It is just a mist machine and a heater. It looks like steam but it is not, just heated mist. I can easily put my hand to the "steam" and nothing happened, just slightly hot. If u ever put your hand to the real steam from garment steamer, it will burn you! So, have u try putting your hand to the "steam" for this one?
