With Google and Apple, you can give verbal prompts to control all those lights with the Hue Hub and develop zone control too. Works great at home here. Nice job on that house btw!

Did you need a 3 cable coffin box for the downlight? The box that comes with the down lights only accommodates 2 cables. Also, what do you call the spring holder for the down light? I got a damaged one and need to have it replaced, is that available in the market?

In short yes if you have good roof/ceiling/ wall access and competent tradesmen. No if any one or all of those conditions are missing. Remember we’re talking easy not impossible. Impossible takes longer, sometimes a whole day. 😉

The insulation guard clips in place behind the downlight.
@GavinLawrence747
@GavinLawrence747 Год назад
@@efixx you must be using an aftermarket insulation guard? because all the evos that i've ever seen are integrated and are one piece. Its an important point, because you don't want insulation in contact with the lamps!

What's your view on light switches with hue (or indeed any other similar technology) installations? Having traditional light switches present alongside things like Hue Tap or the "Friends of Hue" switches like the GIRA range looks odd and a lot of people (visitors) will instinctively use the 'wrong' switch. If installing for Hue from scratch Is it acceptable, or even preferable, to omit the light switch entirely in such installations now? ( you could say the same for two way switching using Quinetic or similar switches - is there even a need to have one traditional switch? )
@hawk_ness
@hawk_ness Год назад
Take a look at the Shelly switches. You can wire the existing switch into it and it will override the status. I have retrofitted a number of my "dumb" lights with them and its amazing! Only £15 too. You can also get ones with power monitoring!
@efixx
@efixx Год назад
I’ve had Rako wireless switches at home for over 10 years - I didn’t install any switch wires. *Gordon
@rsmckgla
@rsmckgla Год назад
@@efixx thanks. What would you say to an electrician who says it's "wrong" ;) ... I challenged him to go away and come back with something in BS7671 that says lights need switches (after all, many commercial buildings don't and have systems like DALI or 0-10v dimmers that are centralised) :)
@rsmckgla
@rsmckgla Год назад
@@hawk_ness I don't want the actual redundant switches though - it looks awful. With wireless switching technology and/or smart lights in a *new* construction I wouldn't bother running switch wires at all - but this is viewed as 'odd' by more than one person I've spoken to!
@hawk_ness
@hawk_ness Год назад
@@rsmckgla I would say its more a back up should the worst happen and theres no internet or wifi or whatever smart speaker you wanted to use is down.

Those Down lights don’t look fire rated to me . ( depends where you install them). Also the fact that they take GU10 lamps you should always make sure there is a large air gap or bridge under the fibreglass just incase someone on the off chance fits a old style 50W GU10 bulb. Unlikely but possible

Philps EWW. Theres MANY better and cheaper products on the market than Philps junk. You have brands like Shelly, Switch Bot etc that are so so much nicer to work with, more responsive and in the case of the Shelly items doesnt need to call home to work if you didn't want it to. Also Philps are known to quietly kill their older products or just make them unreliable. Just your classic over priced consumer junk. Avoid!

Great job shame the lights are stupid colour change , ok in a brothel and Philips aren’t even a British company anymore so more over priced rubbish being pushed onto the British market . Gordon said it’s a five star hotel treatment, if I booked into a hotel and the room light was like them I would demand a refund and book into a different hotel. But fair play to the spark he’s done a good job. But who am I to argue i’am not allowed to have an opinion i’am just a humble spark who’s opinion means nothing.
