NEWS!!! : >) I thoroughly loved this review, really nicely edited, some fun inserts, very detailed and rightfully spending the most time concentrating on the most important thing, picture quality. Style and sound quality aren't a priority for choosing a new TV, but a nice bonus when done right. Thanks Tech Watcher for a fun and informative review, hoping to snag one of these PUS85s next week in the Black Friday sales. Laters.
Very tasty review. I have watched it many times, as well as some of your other reviews as well. I think this might become my new tv. I've ALMOST made up my mind now. 🙂
Good review, i have this TV for like 2 months now and i love it, i've been using it everyday, mainly for Netflix, RU-vid and gaming from my PC. Once you see ambilight you can't go back to a normal tv anymore, i thought it will be gimmicky but it's so immersive, especially if you game on it.
@@thequeenx4807 i have this model , i use it as a a pc monitor , it automaticly goes into game mode , played assasins creed , red dead redemption, even dota 2 , its very good , i didnt notice no lag at all , and ambilight on the games is awesome , you will see
@@borcepecale216 what about the 8555 as that’s the only one I can find? Only thing I was worried about game mode wouldn’t be bright enough and colourful and input lag otherwise the Ambilight really sold it for me I love it
@@thequeenx4807 i only know about this model, sorry, ive also played ps4 uncharted 3 , and there was a scene in a desert , it was gorgeous, i think is best ratio money for quality... Edit:i looked at the internet, the only difference between 8505 and 8555is the remote and the tv stand is silver or black , all the other specifications are totally the same
Without a doubt... best bang for your buck. Philips absolutely nailed this 4K TV. Vast majority of the users who bought this model will be pleasantly impressed by the quality of the image, sound and of course... the Ambilight feature.
Totally agreed (8545), its a fine TV for its money, some problem with original firmware, but after update most are gone already, but still some few left.
I am the very same...I paid €800 for my LG tv around 3 years ago and the screen is all blue now and I have to buy a new one...so I ordered this very same model today!! Hopefully a better choice
Thanks to your review, the answers you gave in comments and the headphone Jack lol I bought this tv and I'm confident I made the correct decision. It arrives tomorrow. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for your reviews and a big hello from Kosovo! Apart from the screen size, is there any other difference of this model between 43" and 50" ? Anything you might be aware of?! Thanks a lot if you reply me!
Hey ! All your reviews are great, rreally helpful . Im seasrching for a 4k TV for sport and movies, for now i am looking on this Philips and on Samsung TU 8502 , which from these two have better picture quality and which you would recommend , i am open for other recommendations as well in their budget . Thank you in advance !
@@postnatalmotcoach1006 what I know definitely, that Samsung TVs which are running on Tizen Operating System, are working with Apple without any additional equipment. However, it is not a big problem for me, cause I have an Apple TV box, and looking for the best 43" TV for my budget.
no, it doesn't have Apple tv built-in, but you still can connect easily with iPhone, but first need to install from the google play store AirScreen app. ;)
lg is faster for gaming and has better viewing angle, remote control and system menus, philips has better colors and contrast, ambilight and support more apps than lg. if you need tv for gaming or watching sport go with lg, otherwise philips easily win here.
@@TechWatcher no game here. I have a nvidia shield androis box, with all the apps, netflix, hbo, disney+, etc... main use is for movies and tv shows. I give importance to picture quality. Go forward with the philips?
Viewing angles on my 50 inch Phillips TV is terrible. You have to watch it directly in front of it to get the best experience. Any slight angles and the image, colours get washed out. That's probably why it's on a swivel stand. I wish I bought a different TV. Or added a few hundred more and got an OLED screen
43 and 65 inch have much better ips viewing angle colors, but not the best black levels, so yes, if you want best viewing angle and black level contrast, go with oled tvs, if you can afford it of course ;)
Hi there! I need to go through the menus blindly because the panel on the TV someone gave me is cracked and I can't see anything on it. Would you please make one more video on this TV? Details below. 1) I need to adjust the brightness, so in the new video I'd like you to go to Settings > Picture > Brightness. 2) I need to enable the built-in speakers, so I need to get to Settings > Sound > Advanced > Audio out. 3) Also, I'd like to set the TV not to enter into standby mode. For this, I need to navigate blindly to Settings > Region and language > Clock > Sleep timer. While you're navigating through the menus, please tell me what buttons you're pressing on the IR remote. Thank you.
@Tech Watcher Hey there! I've got the 43 inch one from this model, but on cable the ppls faces getting fuzzy. Especially the far ones has no contour, but sometimes the close views as well. Any idea what can cause it or what to set to fix it? Thanks in advance!
Hi, enjoying this TV for a few months now. My only problem is gaming during day time. I find things a bit difficult to see sometimes, especially darker areas in the game. I have quite a lit up room, many windows on the right side of the TV. I play on PS5 and have HDR Game enabled. Would you recommend calibrating the ''game'' picture style and if yes, how should I calibrate it?
@@immy747 No don't get me wrong, PS5 looks stunning on this TV! I think it has more to do with the bright light coming into my house. In the evening I don't have any complaint with the graphics.
I've bought Philips 50PUS8105 and i don't like it's picture quality at all. Shadows seems to be "distorted" , it's slow and it freezes few times per day. And of course it doesn't have Android. I am sending it back and want to try Philips 50PUS8505. I hope i will be more satisfied with this one, because i didn't saw any bad reviews of it. The biggest minus is lack of HDMI 2.1 for PS5. My choices for new TV aren't big, because i wan't one with Ambilight. I can't use TV without it anymore. But i am also wondering about one thing, is the stand adjustable? I need to fit my console under my TV..
did you get the Philips 50PUS8555 in the end? im torn between that or an lgnano49866 which does have 2.1, though im only a casual gamer so wont be getting a ps5 for a few years. also the phillips is direct back lit...
@@gabbiemountain9250 yes I've got it and I'm satisfied. Android is working good, tv works good. I can watch Netflix 4k videos without any problems. ps4 fits perfectly under , although ps5 might have problems. 2.1 is not so necessary for ps5. And ambilight makes difference.
I am considering to buy this Philips or the Samsung TU8072. Which one would you recommend? More interested in the image quality than ambilight. Also, nice review Tech Watcher
its samsung black levels vs philips wide gamut colors, but you can still lower brightness on philips and achive similiar picture look that has samsung. just make sure to go with 50, 58 or 70 inch version.
Thanks for the great review, in the UK the 58inch pus9005 is going at the same price as this in 58inch, is it the same TV except for the 4 sided ambilight? What other differences are there? Also is the 58inch 9005 VA panel? Thanks.
How is the 43" model? I have read that 43 inches model has an ips panel.. I'm looking for a low budget tv for the Xbox Series X. Is it a good choise? I have seen that it has dolby vision but I am undecided between this, the Hisense 43A7500F and the 43" LG Nano79..
I asked Philips a question because I did not have a self-adhesive protective film on the screen, to find out if this is normal, and they replied that yes this model comes with protection until angles, did you have an adhesive protective film with your pus85 series television?
Hvala unapred
pozdrav, ima puno konkurencije, moze bit uled od hisense ili qled od samsunga, no svaki onda ima neke minuse, i pluse, samsung i hisense ce imat vise svjetline i kontrasta, no u vezii boja se cini philips jos uvjek odlicno kalibriran i onda jos ima bonus android i ambilight.
U stvari imam jos jedno pitanje, iskreno mi nije jasno kako nije lako naci razliku izmedju 8505 i 8506, tj modela za 2020 i 2021. godinu. Da li mozete da mi kazete da li ima nekih znacajnijih razlika izmedju ta dva modela?
Thanks for the review. I was wondering if you could give me a little info on the apps. I see it has the Play Store, however can you install from unknown sources? I realise you can have Kodi but I would like to install Stremio. Thanks.
Hey, I plan to buy a 58-inch model, but the MVA matrix restrains me a bit (it's a pity that this aspect has not been discussed more widely), I have relatively little space in the room and sometimes I will be sitting not in front of the screen, just let's say at the left / right edge of it , and even a bit to the side (the distance from the screen will be about 2m). Are the disadvantages of MVA, i.e. color fading, affected in this case? Maybe you would be able to add a bit more fragment - probably many people, not only me, would be grateful 😀
здраствуйте !телевизор philips 50pus8505 пробовал вашу калибровку для Picture style: ISF Night экран показывает мутно.картинка не четкая,днем очень плохо видно , есть еще варианты для ISF Day?
I'm very happy with features/picture for the price, but the sound... It's the worst on any TV I ever had since the CRT era (even budget LG LCD from 2016 has stronger bass). Something to keep in mind, you'll need at least 100e soundbar with it otherwise sound is very flat with almost non existing lows. That's no matter how do I manually set equalizer.
Thanks for the review! It would be great if you could do a review on the pus8105 and compare it to this one. Can you tell me already now what the differences are in picture quality between these two models from Philips?
Okej, thanks for answering. When I look at Philips own homepage it says that 8505 has higher points in their PPI-index than the 8105 but you mean that these to models perform exactly the same picture quality in terms of sharpness, motion handling, brightness and so on?
Which one you suggest 58PUS8505 or Sony 55XF9005? Thanks in advance for your reply. What is pros and cons between them. I generally use for Netflix etc. but planning to buy PS4 Pro.
Sony is better for watching HDR content. As for other content, Philips is completely equivalent to Sony. Philips has better Android performance, has a higher quality remote, swivel stand, Ambilight.
well xf9005 is still higher tier in terms of image processing, so its more comparable with philips pus9 or oled series, but in terms of colors and cpu processing, pus 85 is not far behind and on some scenes you even think its better.
Big question, is it good for gaming, for PS4 PRO and PS5? I`m about to get 58, and its primary for that and movie with stunning quality, is this the best choice for that price range, or you will recommend something else?
it has gaming profile for 4k60, so it will work fine, its one of the best for the price, especially if you want ambilight, there are alternative tvs like hisense u7, but they have worse motion processing though.
@@TechWatcher Thanks for the answer. I will then get my hands on one. I brought a pricey Sony like 3 years ago, but it was 43(want something bigger), and its solid till this date, but the price of the Sony in my country is way too much. PHILIPS 58PUS8535 in my country worth 1200 BGN which is around 613 euros. I kinda try to compare it to similar 2020 models to the other brands, and tho Samsung and LGs are similar or a bit better in terms of tech/specs, but they are at least 200+ euros more pricey, so i think Philips at least in my country is definitely the best choice in terms of price at least. The only thing tho i see its lack compare to LG and Samsung in terms of specs is the HZ, its 60hz, while Samsung and LG are 120hz and they are response time its a bit lower. I understand this one has response time of 20-21ms, which is okish, but nothing special. Still for that price i can`t complain. :D

Hi Tech Watcher, I was looking for a low/midrange TV for around 500-600 bucks and was considering Samsung 50TU8500 and Philips 50PUS8353, with focus on low input lag and retaining sharpness with moving pictures, what would you pick from those two? And what other models in that range would you say are worth attention?
samsung is 30% faster in terms of gaming, but if you want ambilight i still think that philips offer more and it still has good game profile. i have played many games on it without a problem.

Hi TechWatcher, the Philips 70PUS7304 for 869€ or the 70PUS8505 for 997€, is this worth it? Is the 8505 so much better then the 7304? Thanks for the answer and keep up this great work 👍🏼
Bok. Moze savjet oko kupnje.
Thanks for the video ! Iam about to buy it or iam confused. Whats the different between this and samsung qled and lg oled ? I know the different between qled and samsung but is this somewere in between ?
qled and oled are higher tiers in terms of brightness, but otherwise this pus85 has still comparable colors and even has more features with ambilight. it has been designed for the best picture in dimly lit room. philips also has oled series and they are more comparable with lg and samsung.
I am upgrading from the 65pus67 series to this model, my question to you is while watching content in a dark room, do you get a lot of images from the tv reflecting along the stand bar? I seem to notice some moving blotches on the bar during your review .
@@ПавелАрамей I got it here in the UK for under £1000. It's all silver and chromed out, picture quality is a lot more refined with some great black levels thanks to the P5 engine.
Which would you choose between KD65-XG8596 and Philips 58PUS8555 ? Mainly for movies in dark room... and between 55OLED804 or KD65XH9005 ? Thank you for both response :)
all these are higher tier tvs than pus85, so if you can go with oled804 it has the best picture in the dark room, xg85 is also good, but contrast is little limited in the dark room. xh9005 has slower picture processing, but black levels are excellent.

well motion is better and it still has brighter picture, which is better if you have a lot of sun in the room trought day, but if you watch mostly in dimly lit room, than 8 series will be just fine.
Hi, while here in Slovenija there are no offers for pus8535 or pus8555, is it possible to extra buy compatible remote control with qwerty keyboard? Thx & hvala!
Hello Tech, nice reviews. I want to choose this TV in 43 inch size, for watching movies on Netflix, Hbo, some HD channels and of course to play on Ps4 pro. It will be place in bedroom, not a very bright room. The problem is i don t know if Samsung q60t or Tu8072 ar better choices. I will chose a decent input lag but to gain a better motion and picture. Thx.
they are very similiar, but i think for bedroom pus85 is better choice, because it has ambilight and still comparable contrast like tu85, but if you want the best motion processing check out q70 or pus9 series.
@@TechWatcher Sadly q70 and pus 9 have bigger screens and i need one with 108 cm (43 inch). The ones that are found in my country and are a possible choice are LG Un8000, Samsung q60t, Tu8072 and the one above. I like this Philips but i didnt know about picture quality and console gaming.
Thanks for the great content. I have a quick question, what is the difference between 58pus8535 vs 58pus8555? Only the stand color? In other words they both have QWERTY and the stand swivels the same way but just the color of it is different? If so what are the color differences plz? thank you :)
Hi I’m torn between this and a Qled tv for the same price. Is there a noticeable difference between the led on this tv and a QLed or OLed tv? Really appreciate any help
qled is brighter, but some qled or uled tvs (q60 or u7) in same price category doesn't offer same motion processing quality, so you need to decide if you want better motion and sharpness or brighter screen with more stuttering, the best from both worlds would be philips q70a and u8g, also check out 120hz pus9206.
It has fast 2.0 hdmi processing, so 4k60 will look great, thought u need to change picture profile to game profile, otherwise it will in terms of input lag.
If you have to choose between this one or the SamsungTU7172? Both 58inch. I'm literally down to choose one of these two. Your advice will be greatly appreciated
samsung has similar motion processing but still less brightness (300vs400), philips support more movie formats, apps and it has better contrast + ambilight... its an easy decision
@@TechWatcher Thank you so much. Philips it is. I finally will stop my search I was getting headache just browsing TV's. Thanks again bro I love your channel
slicna svjetlina i kontrast ekrana, panasonic ima edge a philips direct led, to znači da ce bit boje dublje / bolje kot philipsa, android je isto više upotrebljiv...
hisense has faster and brighter screen, but philips is not far behind and very close in terms of picture quality and still has better color calibration, support more apps and has better ambilight contrast at night.
I'm thinking of getting either the Philips PUS9005 58" or the samsung TU7100 or TU8500 55" , i'll be mainly using it for gaming and watching hd and 4k movies , maybe a bit of netflix , does anyone know which one of these tv's would be better, i heard that the new samsung tv's have quite low input lag but is there a difference between 15ms and 30ms , is it noticeable ? the most important thing for me is picture quality
Hi, friend. First of all: Review is GREAT! :) I want to buy TV for Xbox One X, I'm thinking about Philips 43/50PUS8505 and Sony Bravia KD-43/49XH8096. I thought about Samsung UE55TU8502 too, but after I saw your comparison test is Samsung on 3rd place, or...? Can you advice me? ThnX for answer.
well in terms of gaming philips is slower than samsung (30vs15), but its still perfectly fine if you are casual gamer, i have played many games on it without problems.
Hi, I raised budget and now I thinking about Sony Bravia KD-49XH8596 (9thy series is tooooo much, it will be a game TV for my son( ok I lie, it's FOR ME!!! :D (Doom, AC, TR, ... ))). Can you apologize me that model? Or something in that category from other brands. Now I have Sony Bravia KD-55XD8599 for movie only and I'm VERY satisfied with them. I bought Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.
Is it hard to write a text with this remote control, because it doesn't have qwerty keyboard at the back? (for searching on youtube, writeing passwords etc...)?
Please can someone kindly confirm if this model has live Freeview HD and also the catch-up channels like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5. Very confusing whether it has all these features.
in bright room looks much better and offer better viewing angles, but it lacks contrast of va in the dimly lit room. if you want best of both worlds , only microled and oled tv have solution.
