I'm a Phillies fan and Strider is awesome. I rarely have seen a guy pitch that good and lose 2 games. I really enjoy watching him pitch when it's not against the Phillies. His offense let him down. If he tightens up holding runners on he will be as unbeatable as it gets. Tip my cap to him.

Fellow Phils fan, and I completely agree. Strider pitched great in both outings, but his bats only gave him 1 RUN of support between both of his starts. His slider was letting him down in game 4 but with how young he is he has massive potential to go down among the best to ever do it.

It's definitely a foreign feeling for us to be able to have faith in literally every guy that could come running out of the gate. Idk what Hoffman did to tap in to what he's been doing but he went from being a "I hope we don't have to go to him" guy to one of our biggest arms in the pen. Striking gold with Orion. Every single guy back there has pitched in high leverage situations so far in the playoffs and has delivered. This is how we beat the Astros. Because the difference last year was the pitching depth. Now Dare I say ours is better? The last piece of the puzzle was Seranthony getting back to the stuff he was dealing last season and it's happening at the right time. I threw more F bombs at my TV in the name of Matt Strahm than any other Player this season. Little did anyone know he was Toppers secret weapon. He's playing grandmaster level chess with these other managers with what he's been doing with the bullpen in the playoffs. If you think you were confused after that gate opened and Matt Strahm came out, imagine how confused the Braves must've been. Hoffman and Soto were warming up when Kimbrell got in trouble in the 7th. Did they even warm up Strahm at all? Not enough credit has gone to Philly Rob.

One thing Strider should start doing is just start going inside on the batters or up and in but it really depends on what the count is sometimes and it's all a gamble anyways. It's less of a gamble if batters have weaknesses to exploit. It didn't look like any of the Phillies batters were crowding the plate but there might be a deceptive way to crowd it and change your feet positioning as the pitch is coming. It's risky to go inside. You could hit the batter. The Phillies are just too good and they get dead serious in the playoffs.

If you judge pitchers solely based on ERA and you don't look at all of the advanced analytics (SIERA, FIP, fWAR etc.) that show why he's very likely significantly better than his ERA, sure, you're right. Lifelong Phillies fan here. Before the first pitch, I was conerned. Suarez can be up-and-down, and in terms of physical ability, Strider is a monster. But...Strider doesn't like the crowd noise, which reminds me of the "5-cent-head" line from Bull Durham. Still, I'd have him on the Phillies' staff as starter 3 or 4.

Hopefully the Astroes are not over confident. It all depends on if Verlander can last as he is like 44 years old

phillies scored three runs. this is only the 10th time this season the braves have lost a game where their opponent scored less than 3 runs (game 1 was number 9) not to mention the bases loaded situation in the 7th. strider isnt to blame for the loss, even if he let up three homers. braves are built around homers (they had 3 to philly's 11) and high contact rates (they bat .186 to philly's .275), strider cant control his teammates not showing up on offense for a team that was looking to win a world series off of its offense

Bill Burr’s rant against Philly was funnier….especially about the Phillies being named after a female horse…should be selling cotton candy in the instructional leagues. The Dodgers were always our rivals, I guess now we have to turn our attention to Philadelphia now. Braves been in Boston longer than ATL but Boston fans are better than Philly. The female horses were never the team of the blue collar Philadelphian, that was the Athletics.

He hasn't given up an extra base hit to a middle middle 98+mph FB all year!? That sounds like he's gotten lucky all year, there are way too many good fastball hitters in the league to be leaving them middle middle even at 101mph.
@PitchingNinjaVideos
@PitchingNinjaVideos 11 месяцев назад
Wrong. In the last 2 years, there have been 2 total hits (yes, 2 hits) in all of the Major Leagues on middle-middle fastballs of 102+. The idea that MLB hitters can hit middle-middle high velo is vastly overstated. It's not luck. The game is hard. And velo matters.
@bobbygetsbanned6049
@bobbygetsbanned6049 11 месяцев назад
@@PitchingNinjaVideosYou're intentionally using a misleading stat. 102+ compared to 98+ is a huge difference, and total hits doesn't tell us much when so few guys can even throw 102+. To be able to tell if it's an effective pitch it's gotta be compared to other pitches, not just say it's gotten 2 hits in 2 years, for all I know there's only been 8 MM 102+ FBs in those 2 years. Of course velo is important, but number of hits off a specific pitch is a pretty useless number on it's own.
@PitchingNinjaVideos
@PitchingNinjaVideos 11 месяцев назад
I gave three stats. 1. Strider had never given up an extra base hit on a 100 mph fastball in any location. 2. Strider hadn't given up an extra base hit the entire season off of 98+ mph middle middle. 3. High velo from any pitcher doesn't get hit even if it's middle middle...as shown by the 102 mph stat which is contrary to what most folks think. People think it's easy to hit fastballs down the middle. See this from Brent Rooker taking it down to even 97 mph: "Just chiming in here, 97+ down the middle is significantly harder to hit than like 92 on the corners. Significantly." x.com/Brent_Rooker12/status/1708920458479858063?s=20
@bobbygetsbanned6049
@bobbygetsbanned6049 11 месяцев назад
@@PitchingNinjaVideos If he uses these stats to evaluate his performance he will keep being "Mr 5.40 ERA in the playoffs" guy. Unless you compare it to other pitches it's a waste of time trying to determine if it's good or not. The wiff% on his FB is only 28.7% compared to 55.6% on his slider his BA on the FB is .258 compared to .151 on his slider his average exit velo is 90mph on his FB and 87.2 on his slider and his SLG is .434 on his FB compared to .246 on his slider That's for his FB that averages 97.3 MPH, so I'm sure his FB is better at 101, but I cant find those stats. Overall his slider is significantly better than his FB, so if he doesn't have his slider going, he's going to have a bad time.
