Nice riding, Joe. I am in the midst of looking at a Panigale as a second bike. I currently own a Gen 2 SDR which I love for track, but I would like to switch it up every now and again on track. My dealer has a Special with less than 1k miles for a great price. I just don't know if I would be better suited with the 23 model though. Any insight?
Hi Bubsie, SDR v Speciale are very different bikes. I really enjoyed riding my Gen 2 SDR around PI but does tend to understeer on track, however it's a great all round bike. My Panigale is 2019 and is a fair handful on track but very much a track bike first and handles so well (even in my amateur hands). The newer Panigale V4 (21+) have some softer mapping and suspension changes that make it more street friendly. At track days, there's a few Gen 3 SDRs, but they tend to modify the rear linkage and firm it up to make it more track focused. If you want a more dedicated track bike, get a Panigale, if you want some versatility for street & track, I'd even consider at V4S Streetfighter. They are all great bikes!!!
Hey Kris, nah it's direct from speedo, I don't think it's accurate. When I go through DDA lap times it shows top speeds (that's via GPS) and during this track day 306 km/h (GPS) was the max. In terms of the group, it was meant to be fast group but a big mix that day as you can tell. I'm normally in med/fast but was starting to come up on some riders a bit quickly so nominated for red group (fast group). Some fast racers/riders getting around 1:37s (similar to your pace by the look of your vids) and some slower that were closer to 1:50 pace!!
