ok..imagine going to sleep with the radio on in Chi-Town in the 80's and then waking up in the middle of the night with this playing..I thought I was in a dream world and have never been the same since...someone, anyone, understand the gravity of this song and its musicians taking each other higher, and higher, and higher...SALAAMS
that actually happened to me. I used to goto sleep with headphones on. In '82 I would cassette record entire live play albums on the radio every weekend at midnight. I was recording McToy Tynor LP at the time, fell asleep as usual, then I woke up in the middle of her solo near the end of the song... thought i was having out of body exp.. was out of this world
I love Phyllis at least as much as all you other commentators but McCoy shows his mastery of the piano by being as great an accompanist as he is a leader. I love his work with the great John Coltrane, especially on "A Love Supreme."
Phyllis!!! will ALWAYS be my gurl! and NOW McCoy has joined her 😞😞😞 this Saturday marks a year of McCoy’s taking his wings 🕊 Community!!!!! #HEWILLALWAYSBEMISSED!!!! BOTH of them 🎤 ♥️🎹💙 #FOR’EV 😘😘
This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. I love her and pray I will see her in heaven. I have cancer and she helps me so much. thanks for this great tribute!
This is my favorite song from McCoy Tyner's LP!! Looking Out!!! Phyllis sang the hell of this song. It didn't get a lot of air play but there was enough air play for me to remember this son over 30 years later.!!! Simply the best jazz ever.
Hey Patricia, I don't know about where you live...but in Chicago (In Particular, The Jazz Nightcap Program From 11:00pm to 5:00am Sunday Night into Monday Morning) it was an often requested song! Oh, you just don't hear this type of MUSIC anymore...this indeed was a classic that I'm so glad I have in my CD Collection! I love it so much! And you are so right...Phyllis sung the HELL out of this song!
This song is from McCoy Tyner's 1982 album "Looking Out" where Phyllis was a featured artist along with Gary Bartz on alto sax, Stanley Clarke on bass, Carlos Santana on guitar and Buddy Williams on drums. All of the music was composed by McCoy with orchestrations by Jerry Hey. Phyllis sang other songs on this album which also includes "In Search of My Heart"
You almost forget that this on McCoy Tyner's' '82 Looking Out LP f/ Phyllis on vocals. Phyllis is fabulous on all 3 tracks within this forgotten masterpiece. Along with the trip is Carlos Santana, Ndugu Chancler, Stanley Clarke and an evolved Tyner from his 60's and 70's keys playing style. It's a shame that this LP fell between the outgoing vinyl LP's and limited availability CD's. If released 2-3 years later on CD it would've then certainly been more widely recognized.
I saw her at Blues Alley in DC for my birthday one year. the was also the greatest whistler i'd ever heard. man i haven't heard this song since the quiet song the year it came out on WHUR!

This is a beautiful song and it's my fist time hearing it. I thought I had heard everything song by Phyliss Hyman. This I must say is a nice surprise !!! Love it !!!
This has to be one of my all time favorite songs. The Lady puts so much heart and passion into the song it sometimes makes me sad to listen to the words. Wish she was still here but thank God her music lives on.
Hi my name is Anna A.Lee and just what to say I will all ways love Phyllis Hyman. She was the number one Lady that started me out on my singing career I thank God for every talent show I won . And it was because of Phyllis She was my inspiration to sing , You need to make some CD's and sell them I would buy them all and I sure I'm not alone on this one. NICE I Love This it brings me back...ONE LOVE Anna A. Lee
Weaponx66, This almost brought me to tears. Philis was breathtakingly beautiful. It's a shame she couldn't find "the" person to complete her. We must remember the strongest can be that much more weak. Weak in the sense they need someone to lean on and be vulnerable with sometimes. Men just did know how to receive her. How hard can it be to show love and kindness? That's all she ever wanted. Thanx for sharing, Zheahra
May I say that my friend this is great. Thank you for those old album covers that I grew up on, and this song was very hard for me to find. So thanks again great job of a wonderful singer. Now go and listen to "meet me on the moon" . She has alot of great music yet this is the best one to me. Thanks again.
Celeste Fitz 3 years ago Phyllis,Patti and Angie brought me so much comfort and joy in my preteen years and beyond.. I hope she found peace on the other side..
Thank you so much for posting this song. I remember having this on a cassette tape back in the early 80's and forgot all about it. Phyllis was amazing as usual and McCoy and them were Jammin'! Thanks for the memories...*sigh*
Thank you for posting this great song. The collaboration of these great musicians on this jam is so deep. Rythm section takes off and she is right with them. Drummer is killing it!!!
