The world will never know how much you mean to me I miss you Eloise and your puppy dog Kim. Those were the greatest times of my life. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to live with you and Chris . I remember in high school the first time I listen to John Coltrane, never did I imagine I would meet the drummer that discovered him. I miss you all very much. Without you I would never know what the meaning of jazz. You truly were the slickest drummer that ever lived.
Just amazing! Beautiful playing by one of the all time masters of drumming. Not to many people can play rudiments like this and convey them with as much soul!
I still get peeved when I think of the issue of Modern Drummer, that featured Philly Joe on the cover, with the negative flopped, showing Philly Joe to be playing "left-handed". Man....I know it was the editor's job or whoever was in charge of proofreading or whatever....I just took it as an insult to a legend. Look it up in the MD archives and see for yourself. It was when Philly Joe was endorsing Premier Drums, as this clip shows. ANYWAY....this remarkable film footage is priceless. THANK YOU for posting this.
A master! btw, not sure if i heard the story right, but legend has it that Philly Jo Jones once gave Steve Gadd one of his cymbals, when Gadd was just starting out.
Possibly because the toms have a tone that only Premier seemed to be able to produce? It has a deep tone where the drums have a unity within the kit yet tunable individual voices. My favourite sounding drums tbh...
