Birkin is one of my favorite philodendrons; yours is enormous and gorgeous… I have never seen a Birkin this large…

Nora, I learned a cool little tip from Amanda @ Planterina. Maybe it could work for you. Not sure the exact science behind it, but I can say it’s true! Anytime you’re rooting a NON-aroid plant in water, if you add a small cutting of pothos, micans, etc. (or any aroid) to the same vessel, the aroid releases some sort of enzyme that promotes rooting. So basically it helps all nearby cuttings root faster. I’ve done this with African violet leaves in the same water as peace lilies, Peperomia leaves rooted with Scindapsus, all seems to do something. 😊

I have been transitioning a Birkin for about 6 weeks with the long method. Unfortunately I did lose about 1/3 of the leaves at first but she's stabilized now and is throwing some small new leaves out and root bumps are finally developing! 🎉 I was surprised how deep you potted it in Leca as I always thought you had to keep the crown higher to prevent rot. Good to know! Being anchored lower would help to support and balance it better. Thanks for the vid.

Congratulations on your transition. As you saw from my video, 2 months later, I could have probably kept it in there a bit longer tbh. There was no way I could have it suspended without burying deeper, it was going to topple over. I will let you know how things go re crown rot. It was fine in the water solution so I reckon it should be fine in the leca. Only time will tell.

Seriously impressed that you didn't lose any leaves when you moved this plant to water! Sounds like the combination of nutrients, heat, and light really helped. I'd love to see an update on how it does with the final transition to leca.

I bought a Birkin at least six months ago and it was very rootbound. In total, there are six individual plants stuck in there. It really needed a re-pot. So I divided it and it naturally fell into one larger cutting, and the rest stayed together…didn’t know what else to do; so I cleaned the roots and soaked in diluted peroxide to kill any bacteria. Now I’ve had them re-rooting in water for about a week now. So I’ve unwittingly started the long method! Guess this will be my first foray into semi hydro!

Hi Nora, thanks for the video! My Birkin is not living the life in leca- yet. Transitioned 8 months ago after a month of living in nutrient solution. Other philodendron cousins transitioned at the same time have GROWN. But this lady is still a shorty at 6inches. She has put out a couple of leaves though. 😊

You are very welcome 🙏. Some plants take longer to adapt! What can you do 😊

when I found your channel a few months ago, when I heard you talking about the long method, I wanted to try it for myself when switching plants from soil to leca (or semi hydro, as i am experimenting with more than just leca for my plants) and it works like a charm. When I remove the cuttings from the nutrition water to the leca, wow I can say they arereally thriving and growing so well! I want to thank you for your time making these helpful videos!

Great video Nora! I have quite a few cuttings rooting in water waiting to make the transition to Leca including a variegated M Albo, a Begonia White Ice, M Lanyata, a top cutting of a PPP. Nervous but really looking forward to my first foray into the Leca kingdom

Do you happen to know why the long method even works better than the direct method? Wouldn't water all the time be harder for the plant to acclimate to rather than in Leca where it gets some aeration?

I have a new birkin and a pink princess and I am terrified to transfer them from soil to leca 😮‍💨 I've been waiting so long to get my princess I don't want to "unalive" her

Congratulations on your dream plants. You only do what you are comfortable doing. I do not recommend transferring precious plants until you are confident. Happy planting!

@@TheLecaQueen Aawww thanks Nora 💜 I have been a subscriber of yours since the beginning and all of my plants are in leca thanks to your help. I have only lost two plants out of the many I have so I haven't had much a bad experience thankfully. I'm sure I will give it a try eventually.....wish me luck 🤞🏾

Does clonex clone have new packaging? I look it up and the one I found says growth technology clonex clone but the package looks different. On the link you supplied in the description it has the foliage focus and something called ccs clone cutting solution. Is this the same as clonex clone?
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen Год назад
The whole Growth Technology line had a major rebrand so the images on the new bottles are different. Also in this video I think I picked up a Foliage Focus bottle instead of Clonex Clone. CCS is short for Clonex Clone Solution. It is called Clone Cutting Solution, just to keep us on our toes!!!
