.. I just bought one.. I said that no way I wanted a crawler, no matter what.. But I forgot to check before I bought it.. I just fell in love with the leaves 😳☺️ bugger.. But it's here, and I've had it for about a week now.. It was very well watered, even way more than it should, so I just let it sit in the nursing pot, thinking it would take quite some time before I needed to water.. I'm not sure of why, but when you talked about soil I went to check my Gloriosum, and the soil was some sort of black clump soil with nothing else.. When removing the soil it was damp and almost half the roots fell off it too 😳 Now it is in a terracotta pot with my aroid mix.. I really hope it survives, also since it has a new leaf coming..

Found your video just today. Dont worry about electricty. 15W grow light will cost you around 10 bucks per year :) Check how much you pay for 1 Kilowatt of electricity. 15w grow light 12hr a day will eat +- 50Kilowats of electricty. Here in my country (EU) 1kw costs 0.18eur so thats 9,40eur :))

So glad I found ur video. Bought a plant on sale @ Menards. No label. No name. 😅 I had to find it on web. Then I found ur video. I have no green thumb. But I think plants make ur home look and feel more relaxing. I think I picked the wrong first plant to start with. But I'm here. And I'm not going to let Phil down. Yes, I named him Phil 😂. Phil will live and I will be a proud momma

Thank you for this insightful video. I just got a chonk that’s about to open its first leaf. I’m in Vegas, so 28% humidity is a good day for me. The mother lives in Vegas too so I may be okay. Great tip using a makeup brush! 💚😎💚
@GoodGrowing

Yeah if it's used to lower humidity you may be fine. It also may be worth looking for ways to boost the humidity around it's area artificially

I just got a gloriosum last week and this is really helpful. I'm wondering if you could train it to be in a round pot. It just seems like you would run out of room pretty quickly in a rectangular one. Thoughts?

.. I've got one, and she's doing perfectly fine really, even though she is not at all where she was supposed to be.. She came in a very small nursery pot sticking out the feet from the bottom, and though she looked perfectly fine, I checked her rootball after 6 months and knew it was time, so I gave her a new 15 cm orchid pot and my aroid mix.. She was sitting on my dresser in the bedroom, in the corner (by accident actually), with a little lamp and calathea Freddie one one side and ikea mini greenhouse and a couple of other plants on the other side of her.. But she seemed happy there, so I let her stay there.. Above their heads there's two smaller shelves, two grow lights, and then with a wee little luck, light from the window (west side) when the sun is shining.. But she seems happy with it all and growing as if conditions were absolutely perfect.. Once a month I take her (and all the other plants) to the kitchen and clean all her leaves, one by one, with a microfiber cloth damp with neemoil solution.. I water when her pot is dry little more than halfway, and then I let her stay in the sink to let out all excess water.. .. It is supposed to be bright indirect light, a higher humidity and a very steady temperature.. But that's not where live, it's the complete opposite going up and down like a yoyo.. I only live across the pond from @Good Growing, so we share the weather more or less 😊

Hi!! Love your channel. I went back to some of your older videos. Do you still use liquid gold leaf for plants in leca? And do you know where I can find that in the US? Thx girl!
@GoodGrowing

Hey thanks!! I do still use Liquid Gold Leaf for everything but have transitioned away from leca to pon instead. I don't think they sell in the US though as they're UK based... sorry!

what do you use for pest repellent? I have a spray that I use with all my plants, but if it doesn't like it's leaves to be sprayed do you recommend something else? :)
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing Год назад
If it’s for pests I’ll defo spray it. It just doesn’t like water sitting on it’s leaves for long periods which can happen if you spray indoors without ventilation. But anything you’re doing with pest stuff should be done in a ventilated area

I bought a Gloriosum, 3 leaves with a new one on the way. Could not figure out how to plant the thing. Contacted the seller. She said to plant it upright. Looks like it wants to climb, but I guess it will figure itself out. Any thoughts?
@ClaraBartheMakeup
@ClaraBartheMakeup Год назад
Philodendron gloriosum likes to crawl. However, philodendron glorious likes to climb, they're both quite similar and often get confused with each other. I initially thought they were the same plant... If you think yours seems to try and climb, maybe you got a glorious?

Glorious ..is a X between Gloriosum & Melochrysom that why her leaves are bigger .. ( pls excuse the spelling 😕)

I waited three years to get one and im not sure how to take care of it. I watered it when it arrived because it was kinda dry, the stems are kinda straightening out (they were a little droopy prior). I touched the stem for the first time today and it seems to be flexible and able to bend? Im used to a stem like the philodendron goeldi which is very hard and firm. Is it normal for the stem to be malleable somewhat? I dont think tis mushy as in it rots or anythign but I just never touched the stem before until today

Do you add nutrients in your water ?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing Год назад
If you use lechuza pon, it has slow release fertiliser in it already that will last about 6 months. After that period, or if you use soil ninja's semi-hydro, you can add more slow release or use a liquid fertiliser suitable for semi-hydro. I typically do the latter as i find it easier to remember

Why doesn't the self watering pot cause root rot but too much water in a cache pot does?
@stephaniekieny4031
@stephaniekieny4031 Год назад
Soil can hold on to too much water because a lot of times it has a peat moss base in it but when you use pon or something airy like perlite it allows air to reach the roots much better. Self watering pots when used with soil can also work as well since it’s almost like bottom watering your plant. The soil soaks up what it needs to hydrate and then the water level will drop so the roots and soil aren’t sitting in a pool of water. With Cache pots it doesn’t allow for the soil to really dry out or rid itself of excess water and can keep it overly moist and the roots are more susceptible to rot because they cant really breathe. Hopefully that’s a bit helpful.
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing Год назад
yes to everything Stephanie said, and also for most self watering pots, the reservoir is below the bottom of the substrate so the plant isn't actually sitting in the reservoir. The water is being brought up by the substrate to the roots as they need it
